Wml / Xhtml ? for wap

Recommended Posts

Here are 2 links which you can read more about WML and XHTML.

WML
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_Markup_Language

XHTML
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XHTML

I have only briefly done a wap site using wml, and it works exactly like a xml document in the format like:

<title>
<name>darran</name>
</title>

Something like that. WML is designed for low processing mobile sets, in the past the processing power of this mobile were not able to interpret the current http pages which you are seeing at the moment. In the past, from experience there were only wap pages/'light' html pages which could be viewed on the mobile, but now the modern mobile sets are much more powerful in terms of processing power and are able to visit http pages of any sort. WML is going to die out sooner or later because XHTML is replacing it.

I think XHTML would be the better option for you since it is the standard which will be going to use from now on, rather than WML which is a dying standard.

Use WML. WML is used for mobile web-sites which can be accessed through most mobile phones with internet access. XHTML is mostly HTML and not all mobile phones can view it, that is why I said go with WML.

XHTML it's an extension of HTML right?like the C and C++

Yes,its true,diffenence in XHTML is that code u wrote down is displayed on page as exe file and there so isnt possible to see source code.Also,XHTML cant have unclosed orders otherwise it wont function properly.

You do know that WML is quickly dying out. With newer phones comes better processing abilities, and that is why even now, on my phone (SE K800i), it is able to view Xisto as it is. I hardly see anyone using wml, at least around me and it is better to keep to 1 standard rather than have many standards, wml-xhtml-html ... etc, furthermore xhtml is just like html with extensions, so it is easier for programmers to code in xhtml rather than spend sometime to learn wml, though it is easy. It is an unnecessary waste of time.

go for xhtml, wml will die soon and those who at this point cant afford a xhtml browser compatible phone wont activate gprs on there phone too.also you can do many functions in xhtml than wml
