you can always go through googles e-mail for domains.

with google mail, you will also be offered google calender, google talk, and google page creator!

You can also go to yoursubdomain.trap17.com:2095 or http://www.yourdomain.com/ to access the cPanel Webmail interface directly. You can even change various email account settings using that method (like forwarding, autoresponder, and aging settings).

The mail service is offered by Cpanel and hence if you want to use the mail service, you have to use the cpanel login only.If you want to use a third party software, you will have to modify the software or install special software which use mx records and take control over your mails.https://www.google.com/hosted/ is one better option for managing your mails externally.

Do you mind giving a few instructions on how to set that up using H-Sphere? I signed up for a Google Apps account.

They are requesting to redirect my domain to them at ghs.google.com. I don't want my main site pointed to them so I created a sub domain. subdomain.maindomain.org. I need to change the CName (DNS Lookup) of subdomain.maindomain.org to point to ghs.google.com. How do I do that in H-Sphere?

Another question, if I create a subdomain, do I need to register that one with a service or is that handled "in house" by Xisto - Web Hosting?

Thanks.

What you can do is use the cPanel API's to build your own mail program. You can get them from cpanel main site, Its quite simple to do if you know PHP. You will also need to modify your mail MX records.
Xisto - Web Hosting does not use the H-Sphere control panel they use cPanel.

They are requesting to redirect my domain to them at ghs.google.com

This is what you need to change your mails MX records or ask an administrator to modify your DNS records in WHM.
