bakuryu 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 AMD has released details of its next-generation desktop CPU interface, namely Socket AM3, to its OEM partners. Also suprisingly AMd revealed that AM2 will be compatible with AM3 CPU packages also. Also, recent roadmaps have confirmed that AM3, AMD's future desktop CPU socket, will not be backwards compatible with AM2-package CPUs. RFrom the most recent AMD roadmap is also clear that AM3 "supports either DDR2 SDRAM or DDR3 SDRAM, but not on the same motherboard." This will definetly be a great news for upgraders, as there is a very clear upgrade path: CPU, motherboard, and then memory. Hey ... wait .. but then this also means that AM3 CPUs will have both DDR2 and DDR3 support!!. savge17 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 Awesome man, my next rig is going to be insane I'll tell ya. Im planning to having the new M4 CPU chip put in it with also the next gen GPU card. As for the ram, same thing aswell, next gen DDR2 or even DDR3 if its even out by then. Its amazing how far this technology has gone, and with this new stuff coming out.
