School's Blocking System. Its not the smartest of things

Recommended Posts

The blocking system at school for blocking websites is stupid. It blocks pretty much any website you go to. If you go to school what is the blocking system like there? By the way I am posting this of a school computer :)

If you want to get around your draconian cencorship software check out this site: http://peacefire.org/ Ofcourse, please only use this information for legal/legit purposes. They're awsome...their circumventor software even works to breach china's firewall!

We have blocking software, the two biggest blocks they have, which really bother me is about.com (the name suggests educational) and yahoo.com (I don't understand this one) but I've found that if you just want to read the content of a page, for reasearch or whatever you can use the google cach to view a recent copy of that page.

my school has a blocking system too! and i think it sucks, because it blocks yahoo search in general...but it allows google i think that sucks! but it is necissary for the protection of the teachers jobs..because it isn't the kid that gets in trouble it is the teacher >_< one teacher at our school got fired because a kid looked at gay porn..pshh i still say it was the teacher really though

Heh my school has blocked google images. Stupid losers looking up porn at school ruined it for everyone. x_x

lol, same thing for me, but you could get around that by going to https://www.google.co.jp/?gws_rd=ssl or other country based google search engine. For some reason, google.com image doesn't work, but my school didn't block yahoo image; which i found really stupid.

At my school we have a filtering system because they say that people spend too much time accessing non-educational sites. They also block any site that is deemed inappropriate by someone sat in an office somewhere. So, when it came to my ICT coursework, creating a website on smoking, when searching for "smoking" we got every single site blocked.A little bit of now-not-so-common sense would go a long way to getting these filtering systems working properly.

My old school didn't have internet access for the kids, but for the office, they had what they claim is strict filtering. I don't know the details, but it probably wasn't some enterprise solution. I bet it was something like a Norton internet suite, with whatever content filtering it has turned on. My current school also doesn't either provide us with Net access, but I would appreciate it.

Our school is okay. We can view Google, Yahoo, and all of their image searching tools. Basically, the only things blocked are some game sites, all e-mail providers, and registration pages for sites. I've never had a problem with this except for the fact that I've wanted to register for stuff at school and haven't been able to. Our computers aren't really heavily monitored.

One time our blocking system involved logging into a proxy system, however teh admins (assuming we were too stupid to figure this out) only set up the proxy in IE (netscape was installed at the time) and didn't protect the setting in IE so it could easly be changed! I told our local admin a few days before summer, and the next year we had a new system, and this year we have yet another system!

My school blocks anything remotely associated with games, proxies, myspace, and any innappropriate sites that have indecent exposure... hint hint porn sites. Then on google image you get pornographic searches for like iono something like provocative. lol. i don't know i forgot the word i searched for. I had to scroll down real quick. lol. btw i was working on a project. not wanting to see it. anyways. Proxies won't work at my school. They block any proxy site that i put in and the searching of it is forbidding too. Something about Webcrawler block this stuff blah blah blah. Someone said something about ping'ing addresses but i don't know what that is.

I have a huge problem at my school, too. They've blocked sites for stupid reasons. Here's just a few sites:Google Image Search (the rest of google works fine)Wikipedia (I had no idea HOW STUPID the people at my school were, until I found out this was blocked)Sites that contain the word "chat" in the URL (I understand this one perfectly)Sites that contain either "proxy bypass" or "proxybypass" in their URL (I also understand this one)There's much more than that. I can't access Slashdot, Sourceforge, and many other places. It gets on my nerves. However, I do use some proxy byass sites (like stupid censorship). No matter what my school does, someone will more than likely find a way around it. It does make me really mad about some of those sites (like I use Google Image Search for school projects). Anyway, at least I know that my school isn't the only one blocking sites that are actually good.
