Sony Bets For Online Games The strategy of the electronic-devices giant

Recommended Posts

Well, the Tokyo giant strikes again, with a new "vision" of making happy customers (money :)) and high developed devices, in this case, Sony bets for the new console, the Play Station 3, that is going to be released in early November.Sony believes that the future is Internet, and they decided to make a reliable and easy way to download the newest games ONLINE! As XBOX but much better, because the PS3 will be able to download a ENTIRE game (not a deo version, or a simple arcade game) so user will be updated without buying BLU-Raid discs, just paying a kinda membership.Phil Harrison, president of Worldwide Studios for Sony Computer Entertainment, announced last wednesday that the company is jumping headlong into online gaming that allows users to download full games over the Internet. The initiative, announced at the Game Developers Conference in San Jose, follows the lead of Microsoft's Xbox Live, which also creates online distribution channels and opportunities to create communities of users online who can play against each other in real time.Xbox Live allows players to download certain classic arcade games, but Sony said it will take it a step further by offering newer titles. It will also offer different levels of service: a free service for PlayStation 3 owners along with a paid service for additional features. Also they are focusing on the online features of the PlayStation 3, which is the future of Sony's gaming business. They believe that games can have the same social currency like a great television program. The move to an online-based business is likely to anger retailers who can now be bypassed by the consumers buying games online. But it has a potential to resonate with users and developers, especially producers of smaller games who might not have the muscle to get their games onto the shelves of a big retailer but might flourish through online distribution. This can now be like iTunes where a smaller game can take off. The opportunity to distribute online really opens the door for games. So, what do you think, Is this going to be the answer to the customers needs, or it will be a Empire like Apple, maybe, maybe not, just wait 'til November, and start saving money, for paying a broandband connection and for buying the new PS3.
