I believe Windows XP wasn't made in preparation for SATA drives. Therefore there's a need for manual installation of drivers from your SATA driver disc or manufacturer's website. I'm not too sure about SATA drives as they are still new to me and I don't own one.

After some googling, I've found some related articles that might help you.

yeah i googled all day today and tried different things but no way of getting it done. I even downloaded some drivers from asus site but when trying to install them my windows sais that the destination folder does not contain any information about my system and thus no success. And it is also reccomended that one installs from a floppy disk the drivers but nowhere an explicit disk content is available as far as i learned. So i am a bit dissapointed but anyway my linux recognises it so anyway that's going to be my working OS but i wanted to have some shared partitions. Perhaps someone owning a sata could share some knowledge.

I am not entirely sure, but I think if you have Windows XP SP2 that it should be able to detect it automatically because that's what I have and I have never had to install any drivers for my SATA drive, although it is a little difficult to install windows on the sata for me because even if I install it i think the mbr is still directing my comp to start up using my IDE drive which doesn't have windows on it. So i have to install windows with my IDE unplugged or else I need to run the windows repair and using fixmbr and fixboot with the IDE drive unplugged.

if you?re installing windows on that hdd, during setup process you must load your drivers(download them from manufactur web site) and install them when the setup requests F6 for raid drive. If you have xp installed on other hdd than this check if your newer hdd is recognised as "unpartitioned space" in -> disk management.go to start -> control panel -> administrative tools -> Computer management -> disk managment. If unpartitioned space exists please create new partition using windows wizzard and solve your problem :)
