If you need a high-end workstation video card - choose something from NVidia quadro series which also might cost you up to $2000. If you are interested in playing the high-end games on maximum settings with all effects and stuff - you must think of NVidia SLi systems which can consist of 2 GeForce 7800GTX OC 512Mb each from manufacturers like BFG and ASUS.
