spawn_syxx9 1 Report post Posted October 14, 2004 It says that we have to backup our system files and stuff. Does that mean that we have to? It is basically a new software for worms and viruses, so why do we have to back up our data?I'll admit my most coveted infor on my comp our my mp3's and art stuff. All my school work is actually on cds so I don't worry about it. So I am asking do we have to back up all of our stuff or can we just install it and not worry about losing our info? dbh 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2004 From my personal experience, it's not that you really have to back up your files or stuff, but it's pretty much recommended. I remember when I tried to install other service packs for windows most of them went well. But errors do occur and I got my whole system crashed couple of times. But my processor speed is really slow and it got messed up somehow during the installation. But of course decide for yourself whether you want to make a back up or not. Probably just be patient during the installation since it takes a long time to complete it. (I got impatient once and wanted to cancel but everything went wrong after.) 2091 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2004 hi there! Â i'm a computer-specialist in austria, and i'll recommand u 2 make a backup of ur files. i've not heard about a crash with the update yet but u can be the first one where sp2 is causing problems and let your computer crash. at least i recommand 4 win xp and servicepack 2 a 2ghz cpu and 256 mb ram... Â if your computer is 2 slow it will smash your system up - cause is a buffer overflow... [...Microsoft...]

gotcha41 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2004 about the service pack2, i've heard that certain programs won't work anymore. Such like p2ps as Kazaa! If you are a fervent user of such programs, i recommend you think twice before installing the service pack

CuM2cmU 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2004 i went through a nightmare with sp2. for some reason, i just couldn't get on the internet. after tweaking and fiddling for two or three hours, i was able to get it working again. it might have been the change in memory management. jamesdm 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2004 SP2 do a backup of SYSTEMS FILES if you want to go back and will don't touch your's other date like u mp3, this will cost you around 500mb and if all is working ok after 2 weeks you can delete that back up from the control panel. pr3dr49 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2004 If they decided to make SP2 it means that it should be installed. It probably won't be possible in the future to make further system updates without SP2 installed, and then it can really start hurting. Apart from many changes that they mention on their website, the only visible ones to me were the addition of a popup blocker and somewhat improved firewall. There must be a reason why their engineers spent many working hours trying to write it. I've updated my old PIII 550 without any problems. I don't use any exclusive software, so I can't say whether and how it affects userland.
