The Safe Games Illinois Act (Warning labels for games)

Recommended Posts

the House Judiciary Committee on Civil Law in Illinois approved "The Safe Games Illinois Act" Which makes the sale of video games rated M and some T rated games to anyone under the age of 18 illegal. Violaters will face up to a year in prison of $5,000 fine, or both. The game that will fall under this act will be labeled with a warning similar to the "Parental Advisory" label found on music CDs. There will also be posters explaining the video game rating system in detail at stores which sell video games. "A retailers failure to properly label games or place proper signs is punishable by a $1,000 fine for the first three violations and a $5,000 fine for every subsequent violation." Illinois is the the first state to have something like this done.
My opinion:
They are making games look like something that is wrong, and something that causes wrong doing, I'm shock at reading this. I do agree that certain games shouldn't be sold to minors (like BMX XXX), however i think the warning labels are crossing the line. There treating video games like porn or drugs and their not even close to anything like that. This is a sad day for video game players.

This is really interesting, because I definitely just purchased Hitman: Contracts yesterday at an EB Games in Illinois. When was this legislation passed, because they definitely didn't seem to care, unless I appear to be 18 years old, but I'm sure appearance doesn't cut it in a court of law and they should probably ID me. Oh well, I'm not going to complain, it's a dang good game.

None of this would have even neem a problem if it wasn't for that rotten, dirty, pornographic, stupid Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.Blah who am I kidding? I own it and play it every chance I get. But I happen to be 19 years old...so I do what I want.
