strangerbox 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2005 Hi,I got my domain at Aplus and wanted to point it at memebot's free hosting, which has nameservers a.ns.memebot.com and b.ns.memebot.com. When I tried to enter those at Aplus, it said something like "Must be valid Domain NS1."I'm pretty sure this means it requires nameservers to start with ns1 and ns2, because I tried entering ns1.memebot.com and ns2.memebot.com and those got saved. Only problem is they are not the right nameservers! The customer support guy just said "lots of sites have nameservers that start with a and b, it should not be a problem." What's that about. vibutx 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2005 Its probably where you got the domain name they dont allow a or bs servers. From all the hosting companies i have been hosted all of the name servers started with ns1 or ns1. Sometimes it takes a day or two when you set the servers to activate. So just wait a day and tell us what happens.
nelimitat 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2005 This is a weird problem indeed. I had some problems with a domain name too. I registered the domain and when I tried to enter the nameservers, the checkbox check didn't allow me to enter more than 24 characters in that field. This was really annoying, because I had to send a lot of e-mails to enter my new nameservers that were having more than 24 chars. For now on, I'll ask everyone for a demo of their control panels of the domains and be sure the nameservers of my hosting won't be more than 24 chars long
sunny 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2005 You have a very strange problem, because your registrar and host have incompatible settings, you are unable to continue further. In this case you may ask your domain registrar to manually change the nameserver settings for you.As you are going to get a free hosting account, I suggest you to request an account here at Xisto.com. Here you will not face such strange problem. And at last you can try third party DNS managment services. More information here:http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/Hope this solves your problem.Links: [ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ ]
strangerbox 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2005 Thanks... As you are going to get a free hosting account, I suggest you to request an account here at Xisto.com. Here you will not face such strange problem. That's the plan! And asking questions in this forum is a much better way to get help than waiting days for tech support to reply. For now on, I'll ask everyone for a demo of their control panels of the domains and be sure the nameservers of my hosting won't be more than 24 chars longGood idea. I'm going to send a list of questions and requirements to hosts before I sign up or pay for anything. Seems obvious now, but it's way too easy to make impulsive decisions on the web.
