Itunes More Popular Than P2p? latest survey..

The results of the latest research, that was done by the NPD group company shows, that Apples iTunes is far more popular than the vast majority of p2p systems. In March almost 1,7 million of American households downloaded at least one song using iTunes, which puts it in the second place. The winMX program is still in the first place - used by 2,1 million households. Kazaa and iMesh are behind iTunes and other paid-services, such as Napster or RealPlayer, follow just behind. In March 4% of all american households with internet access used some sort of paid-service to download music.

I would believe that, Apple is making an incredible amount of money through the iPod and therefore also through iTunes which I would guess most iPod users have access to.On the other hand, I've been active in a lot of different p2p communities and have to admit that p2p is going down very rapidly, mostly due to harsh law conditions in countries like the USA. I could also say however, that statistics on p2p network usage can never be accurate. WinMX is still popular, but there are other p2p networks which are waay more popular nowadays, ones which can keep a low profile even with broad usage.

I'd believe it, though all the major corporations and media seem to be ignoring the newest craze, BitTorrent, a system of decentralized trackers to download huge files, often full, illegal albums or movies. Maybe this doesn't count as a p2p service or maybe it's being ignored? It might not even be big enough, but it is very accessible.

Well aint that a good thing surely, well if Apple can offer a track for (I think) 70p ( well Im pretty sure it is under ?1 (sorry non-English people, I really cant be bothered to convert it) then that is great news and at least this way everyone is happy, the user gets a cheap song, the artist and record company get paid. And it is much safer. I have to admit I have not used iTunes because a friend with an iPod told me it was rubbish (iTunes, that is) and I got a differnt mp3 player any way.

iTunes offers tracks for 99 cents, but that still doesn't change the fact that many people get their songs off KaZaA for free. Though it IS slowing down nowadays, mainly because the RIAA has figured out a way to start spreading fake files.
