I'm new to this forum and do not know whether this has been discussed or not, so I'll dive right in and start something controversial. This thread is really about whether gay marriage should be allowed, not whether it is right or not. I think to disagree but still allow something is the ultimate example of tolerance. So here we go....If gays were given the right to marry, what impact would it make in the lives of those who were not gay? Close to zero. I don't know all of the gay people in America and I don't plan too, so let them do what they want. I probably will never notice. But why should I allow this to happen if I disagree with it? If something is morally wrong, it shouldn't be allowed, right? This is not how America or freedom is supposed to work. Adultery, lying, sex before marriage, dishonoring one's parents, etc. are all sins to some people, but yet they are all legal. Just because you disagree with something doesn't mean you should ban it. What if all of the gay people in America wanted to ban straight marriage? Shouldn't they be allowed to by the same logic?Well that should get everyone started, I'll keep posting.

It should be allowed. We should all have the privelege to get married to the person that we love. By not allowing everyone the option, we are discriminating against those people who can't. Here, on earth or at least where I'm from (Canada), we must follow the equality of our culture or we become unbalanced.

I don't see how ones sexual preference should dictate what you can and can not do. If you love each other, you want to be close, you just want the world to you and your loved one. So why shouldn't that be allowed? I never understood this, I probably never will understand. Does loving someone of the same sexe (gender) is less valuable or less equal or less important? It's love... no matter what.. It actually angers me that a government takes the right to "dictate" someone's private life (ok I am NOT refering to illegal and criminal stuff .. but homosexuality, bisexuality is not criminal, not illegal - and I am only talking about consentual relationships here).

Adultery, lying, sex before marriage, dishonoring one's parents, etc. are all sins to some people, but yet they are all legal.

Not in all situations. Adultery, while not sending you to jail, will see you end up in divorce court with the bigger spoils likely to go to the one who did not commit adultery. Lying in business can sometimes be illegal and is generally referred to as white collar crime.
Anyway, that's just me being picky. As for the original question: I think it should be allowed.

I think this theme is very sensitive, and i can't answer with "yes" or "no".Gay people are same like all the other peoples on the earth, they are smart, they study, they live like us,they are humans like us...they have the right to love their partner and to show this love to others to,I think...In my country(Serbia and Montenegro),their are rare peoples who likes gay, because I think that our culture is to primitive...sad...Everybody has the right to love and be loved! :P

I agree with you, kitty. Homosexuals are people as much as heterosexuals are. They reserves the same rights that the rest of the world enjoys and this includes marriage.

Umm...why the hell should we care if gay people get married? If god made us, he must have made the gay people as well. Hmm...this is a very sensitive topic and I will leave it at that. Don't want to get flamed, lol.

This is going to be long. I have gay friends and acquaintances but for some reasons I'm not really in favor of gay marriages. I'm a contemporary Catholic but in a way I am still a bit conservative. I don't mean to offend anyone but sometimes I still cringe at seeing people of different sexes being affectionate with each other in public. I accept that there are gay people and it's not their fault that they are what they are but somehow they have a bit of contribution. Sometimes they (I know a few) tend to encourage their feelings by browsing through websites (often times pornographic) that are into same-sex activities. I accept same-sex relationships, really I do. But the marriage bit I'm a bit uncomfortable. My idea of marriage is coupled with religion and procreation and not only partnership. I blame it on my country and its conservative ways. I just feel like if two people should get married they should consider what others would feel. Some might say to hell with others' opinions but I think they really count. If these two people want peace then they should stay together but not get married, at least not yet and not in my country, unless they wan't prying eyes to be all over them... Again, I'm not deliberately trying to offend people...this is just my opinion. Don't hate me. :P

Of course, yes. If we are talking about and adult couple, I don?t mind what sex they are. They?re supposed to want to marry because they love each other, so for me it?s enough. It?s not about the Church or christianity... we don?t have to mix this with religious issues. We have to live with things that we don?t like... we have to tolerate and if christian people is offended, well, I think it?s their problem.

I mean, why shouldn't they be able too? I've yet to meet any human being that isn't a person just like the rest of us, so why should a certain group not get the same rights as the rest of us. It's like saying, 'From now on, French people aren't allowed to get married.' Clearly, there is no logic to this statement, just like there is no logic to reasons why any group of people shouldn't be allowed to marry.A marriage is a way to certify one's love to another. It shows that there is a very strong bond between two people, and that they plan to last a very long time together. Through the good times and the bad. Once a person is married, people will try a lot harder to keep the marriage working, because it means more than just dating, or seeing another person, it means commitment, and shouldn't everyone be allowed to commit themselves to another person, if they so desire?

I'm going to say "No". That is not because i'm homophobic or anything.Marriage is a religeous ceremony, which has been taught by the bible. The bible also states that homosexuality is a god-declared sin. Isn't going against the whole concept of marriage totally contriversial?I do not disagree with homosexuality, since it has been proven many times by science that homosexuallity is not just a wild choice, its a choice made subconciously, which nobody can help. What I DO disagree with is going against the concept and marriage, and then blasphomously calling it "marriage".I'm quite sure that there's other ways and ceremonies of declaring loyalty and bonding of people of the same sex. There's no need, in this day in age, to go against religeous teachings.

Okay, well, I'm going to take a guess here, and each and everyone of us, myself included, has broken at least one of the ten commandments, more than likely more than one. Sure, these things are morally wrong, but we do them, and they aren't illegal, or outlawed, it's life.

I can't in all honesty believe that anyone, no matter who you are, hasn't gone against some form of religious teachings.

But then, again, I'm not a Christian, but I do belong to a church. I don't concider myself religious, and I have my own reasons for it. Marriage is more than just a religious cerimony, it is a legal bonding of two people. Makes me wonder, why the church and the state are two separate entities... hmmm....

Why is this in there?

Yes, but I still disagree with homosexuality

I can understand a simple "Yes" and "No", but having this as an option makes the discussion biased. If you include a little more, you will neutralise it by including this...

Yes, and I agree with homosexuality

No, but I disagree with homosexuality

No, and I agree with homosexuality

Therefore you'll have a Yes/Agree, Yes/Disagree, No/Agree, No/Disagree. It coveres everything. You might as well get rid of the "Yes" and "No" in this case since it is probing into a new area, but ignoring the other options that must be included. Does anyone agree / disagree with me?

Personally I don't care what people do. Marriage is a man-made thing, based on everyone's own ideas of right and wrong. To say ones own opinion is wrong, that is an unfair comment. To say their opinion is right, that's just a matter of personal opinion again, and it may not be considered completely correct. This is only based on what people prefer. Overall I say Yes! Sure, why not? If homosexuals and bisexuals want to get married, I will respect and support that. The way I see it, is if people want to do something in life, they should be allowed to do it without political interference, rejection, or obstruction.

the answer has to be yes, if only because we all enjoy the freedom of liberty and should not take away others freedom. Gay and lesbias should have the same rights as everyone else! Family is the conerstone of any society and by rejecting 'gay' familes we are not at all helping that corner stone to act as an important part of society. Grant all people the same rights! then we can move onto a topic that should be discussed in the twentieth century and not one that should have cleary been descided years ago. People are too afraid of change and that what they do not know. Go meet some homosexual people if you do not know any of them. Only then you should be able to have an opinion on this topic that is educated and well though tru. otherwise please think about whether you know what you are talking about!
