My Domain Name Is Too Long...

Recommended Posts

I have recently applied for a free web hosting using the domain name richyrichcorporation.trap17.com, and for some reason why i come to initiate it it says that the domain name is too long. Will this mean i need to change the domain name, or can something be done to overcome this problem?

I didn't know there was a limit on domain name length, maybe it's because it's a subdomain. I know you can't have more than 8 characters in the cPanel user name.Ask OpaQue if he knows what the max length of subdomain name is. :blink:Nils

Sorry, I wanted to check something, then hit the back key and submit before checking to see if my whole reply was there, here it was...

wow... don't you think that's a bit long for a sub domain? i say change it to something shorter, like just richycorp.trap17.com sounds good enough

I agree, richycorp, richcorp, richyrich, richyrichco, richyco, or richco, any of them would be perfectly acceptable as a domain, or you could go to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, and register a domain, there are a whopping thirty-eight characters in http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ but only thirty-two characthers in http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, and to make it even less, you could have it be http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, which is only twenty-three characters, and fifteen characters less than what you want, and will easily fit into the length ran ge, whatever it may be...

Yeah i think i have to shorten it quite a lot, oops. I`m still a begininer at these kind of things but we learn form our mistakes as it were, thanks guys. I`ll get the hang of it one day, Time for a little cutting.... *cue OpaQue*So i take it i would need to ask for a name change, from the hosting part of the forums?

You still have the hosting token so you should be all set to re-setup, just run the script again. If it fails it has a rollback feature so you did not lose anything and you should be able to try again.

If you are using your own domain, you can cahnge it there. Just pm me with the new domain name :) and I'll update for you
