Game Creation And Mod Making

Recommended Posts

i decided to share some of my knowledge about mod making and game designing ,as many of users dont know how to make mods and how to make games.I personally never created a Mod but many of my friends are on it.so i got this information from my friends and i thought it would be good idea to post here.

Making gaming mods requires some level of programming knowledge; In fact Mods are good teaching tools to learn from. The Programming language of Mod programmers is usually C or C++, so you will be able to find a welath of resources and help. There are number of tutorials available on the web for learning C and C ++ that can help you in suplementing what you learn from books. There is only one compiler suited for Windows application for this is Microsoft Visual C++, well there is another one which is suitable for Newbies is "Bloodshed" and it is completely free, you can download that compiler from

http://www.bloodshed.net/

Once you have these tools, you need to download the source code to work with. For example lets assume you want to work on quake 3 mod then you can download it from ( http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/)

Well for 3D modelling you need tools like 3D studio max,yes it is costly but it can do the job and you don't need any other tool.Other worth to check out are like "GMax" from discreet softwares and Milkshape3D from chumbalum software.

Game creation Toolkits i would like mention here are Varnavski's 3D engine,Hawk and Yager are Freeware and also good starting points.Darkbasic is also great software if you are making your own games as plus point of this software is that you dont have to pay license fee to sell your games, you can make money without Darkbasic interuuption.

There are many other options that do the same,BlitzBasic,GameMakers and 3D Game studio being the worthwhile ones.If you need 2D game creation tool to create some basic games like pacman,Car race etc.then Game maker is good place to start.you can find it on  http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ or https://www.yoyogames.com/

Yes this software is free.(I tried this software before creating Game on Flash MX 2004,Worth to check this software)

Most of the popular Mods are collabrative projects made entirely on the net, using IRC and IM's.It might be hard to find enthusiastic and talented team members,But hanging arround game forums should get you acquainted with likeminded people.

For tips and pointers, run through few milkshape 3D help files to get yourself started.Check out

http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

Well for sound samples you can hunt arround http://findsounds.com/ or entropymusic.com or ask some friends at futureproducer.com

You can create your own music with FL-Studio http://www.image-line.com/flstudio/ or Reason https://www.propellerheads.se/

There are many free clip art/backgrounds/free image site, you can find some on thefreesite.com

Pm me if you are in search of samples,MIDI etc.i will give you many Hyperlinks.

My suggestion is to start step by step with easy tutorials before trying for big game.

I hope i supplied with enough info to get started for those who are interested in Gaming.Reply if you find this info useful.

Very useful indeed ... :D

By the way, I am thinking about making a multicharacter RPG engine for IRC, based on mIRC Scripting. If you wish to give me ideas or just to test the script, email me evilmod-at-gmail-dot-com or send me a private message.

Thanks in advance people :o

i'm working in a HL2 mod currently.

We're hosted here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

I'm not a map designer or modeller. I'm the site manager along with 2 more members of the team.

I do know the site is a bit ugly but we're already working on changing to another CMS.. as we all know PHP-Nuke is so "the same".. :D

What is SourceBall? Simply put, it is the most ambitious FPTS (First-Person Team Sport) game to date. Using the power of valves Source engine from their masterpiece, Half-Life 2, and inspired by the Bitmap Brothers classic SpeedBall, SourceBall aims to be the sports game everyone has always dreamed of. Fast, intensive, brutally violent, and above all else- FUN.

At its heart, SourceBall is a futuristic contact sport. Set in a world where medicine has advanced to the point where anything can be healed, anything goes on the pitch, and violence towards other players is directly encouraged- its good for ratings! Even the ball itself is a solid metal alloy capable of easily shattering the skull of an inattentive player.

The game is played by two teams of up to five people, one Red team and one Blue. Each team must attempt to score as many points as possible, with the winning team being the one with the most points when the game clock expires. Points can be gained by scoring a goal or by causing the death of a member of the opposing team.

Depending on the arena in which the match takes place, players from both teams may be presented with additional scoring opportunities, power-ups, hazards or even, in some cases, proper medical facilities.

Currently its still in alpha stage so there's still a while until we reach the final stage.

I can say though that it already looks good. -_-

HiIt's very nice of you to provide all that info about creating mods. I don't have any use for it myself as I only play and since I have very little time and am backed up on games I have to play already, I rarely try mods.Patrick

mods can be better than the game itself.i've worked ona few mods. Mainly, just webdesign, Promotional graphics, In-game graphics and textures (skins) for models.Currently not on any team though, haven't got the time sadly.

Whoa! How long did that take to type?Sorry, but I had to ask. If you want a cheap game maker, then you can RPG XP- its for the computer- if you couldn't figure it out by your self... Its not that great, but hey, its free...(was directed to the first post.)
