You shoule leave Yahoo Messager. You can use Gaim instead, it also support Yahoo protocol. The log of gaim will help you to save all the message.

There's another poossible reason, noone sent you any message during last 10days.

In that case, the best choice is to backup all your important data, then reinstall your system. It's a serious crash. If you keep using your current system, you may lose your data.

Hey, guy, you said that you can't connect. How can you post that article.

  3. Internet Explorer is very dangerous! I have heard about loads of insecurites in iexplore, iframes, images executing malicious code and loads more so i decided to switch to an alternative browser. After some persusion from my friend i downloaded Mozilla Firefox v1.0. I still use it and i love it, best of all it is secure. Apart from it being more secure you can download loads of extentions from update.mozilla.org. There are loads of things that firefox has that internet explorer doesnt. Heres a list of things firefox has and internet explorer doesnt

    Tabbed Browsing - Excellent

    Loads of Extentions

    build in search bar

    built in popup blocker

downloadable search engine to add onto the search bar

Firefox Rules   :P

    ---------

Jipman : this has nothing to do with exploits or any other security issue, moved to software -> internet & network clients

FF is really good, it load the page faster in most cases. Installing an extension is very easy. And that's what make FF better and better.

But, both FF and IE sometimes crash the system. There're always bugs inside a soft. Both of them need more improvement.

I've heard about the next generation of IE, it seems to be better than the current one.

  4. Google has debuted an online RSS feed Reader called appropriately enough Google Reader

It's interface is based on AJAX so it feels like GMail with sliding sections and improved speed. One is able to import and export their RSS feeds with ease through an OPML file.

What sets this apart from other services like Bloglines is its interface and the ability to edit feed URLs.

A built-in filter also makes seraching for a particular blog much easier. Also like GMail is the capability to STAR * an item ( what us older geeks think equal to flagging an item ).

Still needs work because IMHO, it isn't as fast as Bloglines and the scrolling interface although looks good doesn't peform as well as a tree structure. It's still early days though and I'll keep switching betwen the two to see how they shape up.

As of now, no AdSense adverts which is another thumbs-up in my opinion.

Now if only, there are Firefox extensions which will support GReader !

    1064325340

I've just checked it. It's really useful for me. But I'm used to use the Opera Browser to read RSS feeds.

    Anyway, thanks for the information.

  5. How to create a new Safe Boot menu in the boot menu in windows XP

    1- open c:\boot.ini in Notepad

2- Copy current boot line to next line.

3- Change and edit the second line, for example:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional Safeboot" /fastdetect

    and save file

4-click Start > click Run > and type msconfig in dialog box to run “System Configuration Utility”

5- Click on the BOOT.INI tab and highlight the second line with the additional name of Safeboot.

6- Check the /SAFEBOOT box, and then select option you want

Minimal - Minimal set of drivers

    Network - With Network Support

    Dsrepair - Directory Services Repair

Minimal (Alternate Shell) - Standard Explorer Desktop

    7- Restart your computer

I think we don't need to do so. Just press F8 while the computer is starting. Most of us don't need safe mode frequently, right. It just make you PC boot a little slower.

  6. ok I am trying to get into programming and then into games. So i was wondering if anyone knows a good language except c++. I have started to learn it but the problem is its not user friendly for a first time programmer. So I would appreciate it if you can maybe name some languages and there weak points and strong points i would aprreciate it.

    1064308924

You can use any programming language. The soul of game is not the language but the graphical engine. You should have a look at DirectX and OpenGL (2 popular graphic library). If may take a while to learn, so make the right choice or you'll waste your time.

  7. was just wondering, how many people here know/played muonline?

it is basically a free mmorpg - massive multiplayer online role playing game

where u can choose one of 3 basic classes warrior, wizard, fairy.

and play in a huge world which keeps on updating together with other people.

    link is:

    http://muonline.webzen.com/

if anyone played it, do post what u think of the game.

personally i think its one of the best free mmorpg out there.

it is large, has good graphics, vast landscapes, and tons of items

not to mention its quite popular and it has its own user created market.

I'm a MU player. Long ago, I played it on the global server (MUOnline.com). But now, we're currently playing it on the Vietnamese server (which's provided bu FPT Corp. - The Largest Vietnamese Software Company). That's game is really cool, right? We have very powerful server here. If you want, you can reg an account at muonline.vn , it's in open beta stage and free to register.

  8. Do you still remember the days when our free Hotmail and Yahoo mail inboxes were only a few megabytes? 2mb for hotmail and 4 mb for Yahoo! Mail? With the entry of Google's Gmail which offers 1 Gigabyte of free email storage space, the battle is set between all these free email providers. Who do you think is winning?

I remembered that Yahoo! quickly followed up with 250mb soon after Gmail. I was using Hotmail, and I was conficent that MSN will also increase storage space. But they didn't and I switced to Gmail which now offers 2 gig. Hotmail has only recently gave out 250mb and it was only for US residents. Now Yahoo is giving 1 gig. MSN Hotmail is still slow.

So who do you think is winning the email battle?

    Notice from m^e:
This isn't a tutorial by any means. At least make sure your posts are heading for the right forum. Moved to Internet & Websites.

    1064311835

I think that GMAIL is the current winner. They support POP for free, and the webmail is really cool because it's optimized using Java Script. I'm currently using all of them. But my main email account is an Gmail one. That's all

  9. Look at available space and Disk usage, what's happening to my account? Now, I can't install any script even though that I didn't upload anything or install any script. 10. No, I don't think it's a good idea. When you do such thing, you may damage your computer. For example, if you have an database server installed on your PC, and i need time to save the information to the disk before shutdown, and the OS force it to be ended. You may lose the data. ...Anyway, it's ok for personal PC without any special data or services.

  12. I was just wondering what you all thought of FF8.  Personally I feel it was the best FF. The story was top notch, it kept me hanging until the very end.  The graphics were awesome at the time, and  cannot say enough about the card game.  I feel though it was a love it or hate it game.  I liked how you could make any player any type of character you wanted through the junction system.  I think it tried some new ideas and pulled them off well, although I don't like the absense of things like armor, the upgrading of weapons could go either way.  But enough about what I thought, what did you guys think of it, love it, hate it, or somewhere in between?

    155312

Final Fantasy 8 is pretty cool but Final Fantasy 7 has the greatest story. And that's the reason why I choose FF7. But I also play FF8. If you had trouble is the game, I can help you.

I thought that Final Fantasy 8 was a very good game. However, i liked final fantasy 7 much better. The reasons for this is that i didnt really care for the card game nor the guardian force idea but i did like the plot. My only complaint was that the game did not have an easy straight forward flow because sometimes if you didnt look at a guide or something, you would wander for hours. That is my thoughts on that game.

    155432

Why don't you care GF, it's a good idea (I think so). You're wrong when saying "if you didnt look at a guide or something, you would wander for hours.". Cause I play the game myself without any help. I played the game for 2 months (a long time, right?)

  13. I am working on building an old 486 (with a pentium overdrive chip) and I plan on installing Debian from source.  I would like to know what is the best software to get so I can use this box for working with MIDI.  I have a Casio keyboard, and I want to be able to both record music via MIDI, and be able to control the keyboard from the computer.  Thank You for your assistance.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I think you should try XMMS. It support many file format (included MIDI). I think you should visit SourceForge.netto find more program to Record MIDI via Keyboard.
