To make a VLAN map onto an IP subnet you need either a router or a layer 3 switch. I will deal with the specifics at the end.The router solution would work by having the router with multiple ports either each physically connected to the VLAN with one physical port per VLAN or one port with a secondary interface for each VLAN.The basic principle is the same, the router has an interface set up for each subnet, with the interface IP address being the default gateway for each subnet. Routing is then set up on the router to route between the subnets. All the clients on each subnet have the IP interface of the router as their default gateway, this ensures that any data whose destination IP address is not in the source devices own subnet is sent to the router, routed to the correct subnet and forwarded. That is the basic principle. The actual implementation would depend upon having either an individual port for each subnet and patching that to a switch port sitting in the relevant VLAN or more likely having one port on the switch and sitting in all VLANs and supporting 802.1q VLAN tagging. this connected to a port on the router itself configured with the same VLAN tags for each VLAN configured to forward all packets destined for a particular VLAN to be taggeed correctly. The main downside of this approach is that the router becomes a bottleneck and not all routers support 802.1Q VLAN tagging. The layer 3 switch approach is better. This is a switch that routes packets to VLANs depending upon the IP Subnet. The basic principle is the same as with the router, but the interfaces in each case are not physical ports but internal VLAN interfaces. So apply IP address to each VLAN interface (and in some cases add the IP subnet address details) set up routing between interfaces and set the layer 3 switches default gateway to point at any WAN router so unknown IP address destination packets are forwarded accordingly. That covers the basic premise, but what you want is slightly more complex. You want groups of IPs withing each subnet to be allocated to a VLAN, some switch technology may be able to do this but the admin on this would probably be a nightmare. My suggestion would be break down your class C subnet into smaller subnets and allocate to seperate VLANs. IT would mean changing IP configs on all devices and you would have to renumber devices using subnet and broadcast addresses. Since you are using a 192.168 schema if you have lots of unused subnets and there is no reason not to, why not use a class C for each subnet, administratively it would be easier to work out which IP subnet is which group of machines. So I would look at a Layer 3 switch and study and well plan your IP subnet addressing and in particular subnet masking. There are various subnet calculators around to help you here.

I really hope someone can explain this cause it's driving me nuts.I have 2 different makes of USB 2 pci card both displaying the same symptoms on different machines and different O/S's.I have a an ALI 5 port card chipset is M5273 and I have a VIA 6 port card chipset is VT6202 (strange this is all references to the via chip say its a 4 port controller !)anyway when either card is installed the default drivers in either 2003 Server or Win XP pro say the ports are USB 1.1 when you plug a USB 2 device in and true to form data transfer is slow. When you install the driver that came with the card (either one) it then shows a USB 2 enhanced host controller in the hardware list, it does not show any USB Root hubs listed under that controller and anything you plug in does not get detected, have I just been unlucky or what

Every few minutes today I have been getting a pop-up from my Norton system that "A remote system is trying to access eEBSVC.exe" and asks if I want to permit or block it. I checked the internet and found that it is related to Epson. I had an Epson printer, but got rid of it a couple of months ago and tried to delete the files for it. There is still one I could not get rid of (message said it may still be in use). The irritation is that the Norton message has continued to pop up about every five minutes or less and immediately repeats the request even though I click for "always block". How can I stop it? It is extremely annoying. There is no reason for it to contact my computer so I do not want it to. Spyware scan doesn't show anything."eebsvc.exeeebsvc.exe - Here is the scoop on BiDirectional Request Sever. The big question: what is eebsvc.exe and is it spyware, a trojan and if so, how do I get rid of BiDirectional Request Sever?eebsvc.exe (BiDirectional Request Sever) - DetailsThe eebsvc.exe process will communicate with your Epson printer to send and receive status information regarding the state of print requests and/or ink levels remaining. Communication is made with the printer over your network. If you stop this process your computer will not be able to determine the status of your printer, and so may not be able to use your printer. If you do not have an Epson Stylus printer you can terminate this process.eebsvc.exe is flagged as a system process and does not appear to be a security risk. However, removing BiDirectional Request Sever may adversly impact your system. The Spy Bot database currently registers eebsvc.exe to Epson.when i was rebot my comp i thinked that he is gone butit hasn't gone away. I still get the same message. The first hundred or so times I told it to "always block" so why does it keep popping up? Shouldn't Norton Firewall block subsequent attempts after I tell it to? Now I have even clicked on "always allow" and I have still seen it five times since then and clicked "allow" every time. There it is again! Darn it! About every five minutes it pops up- I click on always allow or always block, and it will pop up again almost immediately. Then again in about five minutes. Driving me crazy! Make it stop! Spyware scans and antivirus scan find nothing. The details are:Program: eEBSVC.exePath: c:\ProgramFiles \Epson\EB...Protocol: UDP (Inbound)Remote Address: 222,47,183: 62062Local Address: All Local Adaptors: 1027Location: HomeI just got another and noticed that the remote address is different as it the number on the local address. Maybe it is trying all combinations. As I said, it is supposedly Epson, but I haven't had an Epson printer installed for a couple months now. I have a Dell color laser printer now and it is using the same USB connection that the Epson did.

both cams are small, both are light, and both are 5 MP...but i was GROSSLY dissapointed in the sony T7...being a previous owner of two other cybershots (the last one being a p92 -> 5MP) i expected at least equal performance.problems with the sony...daytime shots are excellent, so are close ups...but once you get into using the zoom or shots that require the flash, there was a tremendous amount of noticable noise in the pictures...it was so bad i had to dig up all my old digi-pics to make sure i wasn't seeing stuff. so even with other digi pics there is a little noise in the background where the flash doesn't reach very well, but with the T7 it was really noticable....so i decided to return it and traded it for the canon SD400my buddy already has it and he loves it, i've only finally got the battery charged, and of the "test" pictures i'm sure i made the right decision. the noise is considerably reduced, especially when comparing shots from the different cams. the fact that it's cheaper, as well as cheaper media seals the deal...once i play around with it more and master all the functions i'll update...but the point of this thread is....DO NOT BUY the T7....it is not worth the money...the size is great, but the trade off isn't worth it..IMO

Hi there. I've been doing J2EE development for a while. On past projects we have always used the three tier approach - web container for presentation logic, application server for business logic and oracle/sql server as our data storage layer. My current project entails setting up a J2EE architecture for casting votes in an election. It must support multiple access methods like SMS, IVR, web, idtv, kiosk. After alot of research on the web there seems to be a trend towards not always deploying an application server in your setup. The business logic in our application is not too complex so we were thinking of going with apache, tomcat, struts, hibernate as ADO layer, and sql server as the database (this tie in is historical otherwise we would go with Oracle). We plan to separate the layers into xslt/xml presentation, business logic, xml handling, hibernate handling. Apparantly, this setup should be enough. What are your thoughts? I know alot people are against using ejbs just cause they were used in the past. Transaction handling, security, scalibility would be the factors I would be most concerned with. There is a possiblity in the future that other applications may be integrated with this one so that may move us in the direction of using an application server. I just don't want to deploy one unless there is good reason for. Everyone seems divided in the forums. Opinions please??Thanks in advance.c3nar1us

My friends and I all enjoy classic console video games. We all have several emulators and ROMS from various consoles. My question is does anyone know of a way to play the multiplayer games from our collections over the internet? For instance if I wanted to play one of my friends in a game of Archon for the NES, how could we go about setting that up? I'm sorry if this isn't the correct forum for this post, but couldn't figure out where else to post this question.I can't be the only person out there who wants to do this. I assume that my friend and I would have to establish a connection through our IP addresses and both have the same emulator and ROM installed on our system. The only tricky part I would think would be making it so the ROM accepted input from both systems. I know in most online PC games one player would "host" a game and the other would connect to it. Any ideas on how to host a game of "Super Mario Brothers" (or Perfect Dark, which is what I'm really gunning for) from a ROM file?I wouldn't consider myself to be a tech noob per se, but in this area I'm a little lost. Would this require some sort of mod or custom written software to do or does someone out there know of a program that would do the "hosting" for you? I have come here as a last resort. I've searched Google, etc. etc. and am only finding outdated sites filled with spyware, nothing helpful, so posting "Try Google" is not really going to help me

I am not very happy about Half-Life 2 coming to the xbox. Now all of the un-intelligent people that use the xbox and think it's the "cool thing" will be talking about this new game that's an xbox exclusive. It's not! They'll be destroying the wonderful community of gamers that make up Half-Life 2's beautiful center. I don't wish to be mean to xbox gamers. There are some intelligent people that play on the xbox. But, still, there are many people that think gaming is just another way to shoot a rapper, or that gaming is a fad that popped up a year ago. I don't want people saying that Half-Life 2 copied Halo. It didn't!Half-Life 1 came out in 1998!Anyways, I don't really want Half-Life 2 to come to the Xbox.Half-Life is almost like a special thing that pc gamers hold close to their hearts, and when Half-Life 2 goes mainstream, it will be like stabbing pc gamers in the heart.thank you,

This looks like the closest matching forum for my problem; apologies if it's not.I have an old MS SideWinder Pro Plus joystick that I've had forever, mainly to play X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter. I recently got the urge to play it again, but when I dragged the trusty SideWinder out of the storage box, I discovered my Abit NF7-S2 mobo doesn't have a game port. It does have onboard sound, so I don't have the usual sound card game port either.I bought a Belkin DB-15 joystick game port-to-USB adapter off the net. It's supposedly specifically for SideWinders, presumably because they have a specific pin configuration. However, it doesn't work. WinXP doesn't detect the adapter when it's plugged in. Seeing as it's a passive device, that doesn't surprise me greatly, but when the SideWinder is plugged in it doesn't detect that either.Any help?-c3nar1us-

So I go to Upload some pics. I try to Upload them into my 'pics' folder. It says it can because maybe the disk is read only. I go into the folder, right click > Propteries, uncheck read-only, hit ok..then it still says it, I go back to folder, and read-only is...checked..... I unchecked about a million times..but it goes back to being checked...I want my own pic folder..not having to Upload to desktop..it just started doing this..if I make a new folder like I did now.. ( this is the second one deleted the first one when it did this) then its fine..the first few tiems I Upload pics. It also says the disk could be full..I dont think it is on my first folder I had like 25 Pics...wtf?? Notice from dundun2007: This is a first warning about your topic title. Please read the forum to correctly setup a topics title. Title should include the problem not just "Urgent" or "Wtf"

You might consider Webroot's Window Washer. It works with IE and AOL.Once you get off the net it clears out all your internet activity, e.g. sites visited, temporary files, etc... then when it completes it's 'wash' you just click to 'minimize' it so that it remains as an active program. This will prevent someone else using your computer to find out what site's you visited..You may want to visit; https://www.webroot.com/us/en/ they have an array of products, and like anything else everyone has their own opinion as to what works for them.I have Windows Washer Ver. 5.0, I believe that there is a newer version out there now. It's about a $30-35 program. If purchased be sure it's the newer version (beyond Ver. 5.0), it's hard to tell just looking at the containerorrr only real way... low level format, then overwrite the drive about a dozen times with randomized data. given enough time, the big guys with the cash could still probably pull data off a drive like thatgood luck

So Hotmail now has a new password system, When changing your password it gives you a rating, weak, medium, or STRONG. I made a 'strong' password from random letters, numbers and other characters such as #;[{*?$ and etc.I copied the password into the clipboard, I was going to save it into a txt file until I could remember it. But I was also browsing some other sites, So I thought OK I'll do it in a sec. And I accidentally copied something else, erasing the password from the clipboard, now thats probably my fault, But I just assumed I'd easily reset my password by answering my security question. So 30 minutes ago, I go to log into my account, I choose forgot password, enter in my usual email address. And expected to see an option to reset my password by answering my security question... NOPE. Because my password was strong, they wouldnt allow me to reset it by answering my security question. So I'm left with one option, Which is to choose to have instructions sent to my alternate email address on how to reset my password. However, I never entered an alternate email address because I was never asked. So now I'm permanently locked out of my account because of Hotmail's STUPID *bottom* PIECE OF *BLEEP* NEW SECURITY SYSTEM.Well Done Microsoft, Well done. And thanks for making sure I knew that having a strong password would disable the password reset by security question option. Thanks a lot Ive had that email address for THREE years

Hello all, i've been searching all over the internet with no avail for some info on this... I'll try to be as descriptive as possible.Okay, I have an extraordinary need to backup my 9 gig HDD so that I may reformat it and start from scratch, afterwhich I could use my other comp's CD-RW drive to burn everything onto a series of CDs. Now, while searching through my options, I found the best way to go would probably be to use an empty USB External HDD I own to copy everything to, and then afterwards hook that HDD up to the comp with the CD-RW drive to burn it directly from there. This comp (the one that needs to be backed up) is running Win98 (NOT 98/se, all the more reason to reformat and reinstall). The comp with the CD-RW drive is running WinXP home edition. The 2.5" External HDD is made by Fujitsu, model MHM2100AT, and the casing for the HDD is plain solid aluminum and only contains the following graphics/text on it:HI-SPEED Certified USB logo (top-right corner)Large text: STORAGE BOX (bottom-right corner)Line graphic (underneath STORAGE BOX text)Small text: ATN-251 2.5" EXTERNAL HDD (underneath line graphic)... and unfortunately that sums up every aspect of the HDD case.I hear that Fujitsu doesn't commonly create the drivers for their HDDs, which is probably why I came to a dead end while searching their site. Anyways, I have tried to install this HDD on the Win98 machine using a floppy disk labelled "For USB 2.0 Driver" containing the following files:DELENTRY.EXEDELUIDRV.EXEGENEDISK.INFGENESTOR.PDRGENEUIDE.INFGENEUIDE.SYSSETUP.EXEUSBMONIT.EXE... and everything seems to install and run perfectly fine. The only problem is that the drive doesnt pop up in My Computer like it's supposed to, pretty much rendering the HDD inaccessable & useless. Now, I find absolutely no errors when trying to use this drive on the WinXP machine, and once plugged in the new drive letter pops up in My Computer like it's supposed to and everything is perfect, without the need for installation or anything. So, does anyone have any ideas how I can get this working on the Win98 machine, or if it's even compatible for Win98? Much appreciated to all who can help in any way.c3nar1us

hey guys,i recently formatted and reinstalled everything on my laptop. Before, running cs was fine (as in terms of lag and fps, it was always constant ((fps around 100, latency around 30)) ). Now with everything reinstalled, i've been getting terrible fps. I've updated the video driver to the most recent, and have even tried overclocking it. Nothing seems to work!I've also changed some settings in console, but that didn't help.My video card is an ATI Mobility radeon 7500. Anyone have any ideas why i might be getting terrible fps? It jumps to as low as 15 sometimes, and usually will stay around 50-60 before jumping back to 100 again. I have no idea why it keeps jumping around. Thanks in advance!c3nar1us
