  1. Personally I wouldn't be surprised that video games have an effect on some of the things that people do, but I don't think that it's the gun games that are the problem. The problem is that there are games that involve driving fast or aggressively, coupled with the relative ease of getting access to a vehicle. My personal opinion is that children (anyone under 18) shouldn't be driving, though, since traffic statistics suggest that people who start driving later in life aren't any more dangerous despite less practice than the drivers who started as teenagers.
  2. You didn't consider the possibility of allowing multiple women to marry each other to deal with the fact that there are more women than men. If, after all, a man who has multiple wives dies, the women are still bound by marriage to each other.
  3. I have to admit that I usually get drunk when I drink since I have very little alcohol tolerance. Usually one glass of wine or one mug of beer will do it.I find being drunk to be a pleasant experience since things like sports that I normally find dull like baseball suddenly become much more interesting. Other people's jokes which I would otherwise find dull become hilarious. In the back of my mind I know all this to be a temporary, illusionary thing somewhat like going to a superhero movie and imagining for a moment that someone could run around in long underwear and fight for justice. There are only about two times I can remember being hung over, and two times was at least one time too many. Arguably it's two times too many, but there's no way to know your limits without exceeding them.
  4. I haven't been in school for a while, but in my opinion it's stupid to skip classes when you're paying for your own schooling. There were people like that at the university I went to, and no matter how smart they seemed when I met them, they inevitably made for below average study partners.
  5. I personally think a great many evils in politics are driven by a willful disinterest in government, particularly with something as basic as exercising the right to vote. I also don't think that it was an accident that there were so many messages in 2004 equating Kerry with Bush that encouraged more "independent" minded people not to vote. That said, it's sad to see so many mentally lazy people expect that good candidates will magically melt away their doubts and convince them that they're the ones for the tough job ahead. Maybe it's a natural trend, given that we as a society demand pills to make us thin, cheap gas for our huge cars, and improved roads and infrastructure without increased taxes.
  6. I own both and my overall feeling is that they are really two very different things. The DS is like the gameboy with games galore, but ultimately most of those games are minutes of entertainment, good mostly for short breaks. The PSP seems to have inherited a lot from the Playstation, and to some extent a lot of the really good games are ports and/or games far more demanding in terms of time or attention.Overall I've spent far more time playing games on the PSP even though I bought the DS first and had a bigger DS game collection for a while, but this is a "your milage may vary" type of preference. Some people may prefer DS games, but if we're talking quality games, the DS library had little or no advantage over the PSP library.
  7. I liked Batman Begins aside from the questionable casting of Tom Cruise's wife as Dawes, so I had high hopes for the Dark Knight.Heath Ledger put on a fantastic performance as the Joker, and is the highlight of a movie that I felt was a little bit too long. A lot of things happen, but much of those things are overly long set-ups to put characters in the same room or to explain otherwise implausible devices. The drama in the movie is tainted by the semi-allegorical take on Batman's saga into a kind of right-wing apologetic explanation of the most gregarious excesses of the current administration in the White House. It's hard not to see the Joker as anything but a gay terrorist whose only wish is to destroy America. My only other criticism is that they should have made it an R rated movie because it really felt like the movie had to keep pulling its punches. That's not to say that I hated the movie, but I felt that it could have been so much more if it had not been dragged down by the weight of evils that are justified only in the name of the greater good.
