BuffaloHelp got a reaction from miah207 in Pyramid Brainstorming Why human beings didnt create Egyptian pyramids.
It's impossible to move those huge blocks with today's standards, perhaps due to today's safety measures. Trucks are limited to how much they can carry for the safety of other drivers on shared roads. What if some massive amount of people were used to transport these blocks? Maybe a team of 50 strong men were responsible for moving just 1 block a day. Just guessing here. And that would mean about 22,100 could have worked on the project. If the number is too high, what if 50 men were ordered to move 4 blocks a day?We don't know how many people were put in dangerous situations to complete the project back then. And I'm sure there weren't any union representatives to go against the architect (usually a king or queen) demanding 30 minutes of break for every 6 hours worked Maybe people's lives were at stake and it's either do or die.My guess would be on people first--we have tenancy to do great things if we put our minds to it, and not have to wait for outer space influence.

BuffaloHelp got a reaction from miah207 in How To Track A Robbed Laptop ?
One possible way to track down a pc/laptop is to wait for a thief to log into an account that is your client's. For example, if your client made an auto login for a messenger or any social networking sites you can wait until the next time the laptop is turned on and curiously logging into one of these accounts. Once you can confirm that the thief had logged in, ask the service provider (MSN, Yahoo, Facebook or such) to trace the IP address. And then let detectives request IP address information to obtain the service provider, location, customer and customer information.Other than that, there's not much you can really do at this point.Consider advising your client with Lojack for Laptops.

BuffaloHelp reacted to rvalkass in Touch Screen Difference
It's caused by differences in the mechanisms used to detect where your fingers are. The system used on the Nintendo DS (and other systems that use a stylus and register only one point on the screen at a time) work using a grid of cells on a top and bottom layer. When you push the layers together with the stylus, this causes a measurable change in current, and the system can work out which cell you're pushing on, and therefore where you're trying to click on screen. This system needs quite considerable pressure sometimes to get it to work (as many frustrated touch-screen users can confirm) and can only detect one point on the screen at a time. The system Apple and most other new devices use is a projected capacitive system. The screen comprises a fine grid of cells, each with a voltage across them, and therefore an electric field. Touching the screen (or even just getting close to it) causes a change in the capacitance measured by the device across the screen (as the human body is capacitive, and hence why a plastic stylus usually doesn't work). With this system you can detect multiple points on the screen at once, but it's much more expensive to implement. You also get fingerprints all over your screen

I guess "height" is a relative term.Yes, 2.5" is also known as the height of the drive. That would make my measurement as depth of the drive. In the hard drive, you have your size (3.25 or 2.5 inch drive) and then you have the width, followed by how thick your drive. Some specific laptops have drive thickness requirements such as less than 17mm or some 15mm drives only. There is no vibration rating except you'll know when your laptop vibrates. Some laptops equip with CD silencer to suppress unnecessary vibration when CD or DVD is spinning. SSD is an excellent alternative choice. However, the price is so high that it may not be worth it. For example, 200GB SSD is almost 3 time the SATA or IDE hard drive's price. SSD has very low power consumption and low heat.

Some laptops have specific hard drive height requirements. Majority of hard drives are about 19-23mm tall (when installed). Some hard drive caddies are only for >17mm and thus not just any laptop hard drive will do. Please search and know the dimension requirements before purchasing/installing.Another requirement can be the spinning speed (5400 RPM vs 7200 RPM). Some laptops have separate drive caddy that can absorb the extra vibration caused by high spinning hard drive. If you install high spinning hard drive it can cause unwanted vibration to your laptop. Consequently there are high speed hard drives with low vibrating ratings. Higher spinning hard drives tend to draw more power so know that your laptop may not last long under battery power.Be careful or be aware of extra heat produced by modified equipment (non-OEM replaced part). You can pickup a software to mirror/ghost your old hard drive to new hard drive regardless of the size difference. That means you don't have to reinstall your programs from the beginning, including your operating system.A good rule of thumb is to always, and I mean always have about 15-20% free space of your total hard drive capacity. Windows (especially Windows) is notorious for using your hard drive for paging. And if you max out your "reserved" space your hard drive can crash any time.

I have read nothing but good things about SSD (now we're going off the topic) :)I replaced one of my laptops with SSD and it does speed up. However, the initial booting time and the computing power, such as creating large PSD or working on fill-able PDF is the same--because it's CPU related and not hard drive related.Retrofitting an older laptop with SSD, with the high price of SSD, does not make a practical upgrade. Majority of netbooks are sold with SSD and they seem to be reliable and making battery last longer. I suppose if your laptop is worth upgrading SSD would be one of the wise choices. I would rather sell the older laptop before it depreciates further and purchase newer laptop with SSD as an option. It's better to have motherboard with SSD connector rather than fitting SATA to SSD with a kit.

BuffaloHelp got a reaction from miah207 in India May Ban Gmail Along With Skype And Blackberry
Whatever happened to learning from the past? Strange it may sound, India's department of telecom could ban BlackBerry devices, Skype and even Gmail services if those services do not comply with the government's law. This law is to ensure that data through aforementioned networks will be made available to security agencies.

The story is leaked by stating that the IT laws of India is trying to make foreign companies (like Gmail) that does not need to apply for local license in India to comply fully with security agencies of India.

First was China bullying around Google, and now India trying to muscle Gmail, Skype and Blackberry around.

BuffaloHelp got a reaction from Johnnymushio in How Can I Make A 501(c)(3) Organization?
The best way to start your company, separating your money from the company's money (sole purpose of federal and state taxation) is start with D.B.A. (doing business as).It allows you to create a separate entity apart for you and removed any personal liability from getting sued or etc aside from having your company name, paid to your company name, write checks in your company's name etc.DBA is cheap to create and it is the most commonly created business entity. As low as $35 you can simply go to your town or city hall and register your business name (as long as it's not taken). Simply bring a proof of ID, proper tax ID or EIN and the correct form of payment (my city hall only accepts cash).EIN (employee identification number) is free from IRS. You can tie your personal social security number to your DBA but some people are not comfortable with writing and showing their social security number to some public officials. So you can create EIN using your social security number. EIN will be issued to you and only IRS knows the tie between two numbers. Submit your EIN when registering DBA can be reassuring your social security number does not fall into the wrong hands. EIN takes few hours/days to create (registering with IRS on line and possibly waiting to hear back from them, although I seem to remember getting mine almost immediately). So get your EIN before registering DBA.Once you've created your DBA, bring the certified DBA paper(s) to your preferred bank and create a bank account for your company. Voila, congratulations you have now created a company that can accept payments in your company's name.

BuffaloHelp got a reaction from Unregistered024 in Beware Of Fradulent - Phishing E-Mails
Email can be fooled to "look alike" it was sent from the source claimed to be by manipulating mail headers. In PHP this is achieved simply by:

    <?php $to = 'nobody@example.com'; $subject = 'the subject'; $message = 'hello'; $headers = 'From: webmaster@example.com' . "\r\n" . 'Reply-To: webmaster@example.com' . "\r\n" . 'X-Mailer: PHP/' . phpversion(); mail($to, $subject, $message, $headers); ?>

What it cannot fool is the "Received" portion of the full header. In Yahoo and Gmail you can see the full header by click on "show full header" or "show original," respectively.

In the full header contains many information but it cannot disguise the originated IP address (in bold) such as:

Even when originated IP can be fooled (next paragraph can explain) the SPF cannot be faked (another bold from quote above). This is another reason people register proper SPF so that their emails are not marked as spam. This is another method many popular email servers will base how to filter spam from legitimate email. When you see "this email is not from where it claims" (at least in Gmail) this is how they identify spam emails.
A script can be originated from the hosting of Xisto by creating a free account under Xisto server(s) and send a quick mail script. This is why spamming accounts are quickly suspended form any of our free web hosting accounts. Since the email can be sent from the same server IP as "Xisto" it can pass for the correct IP address of Xisto mail.

In any case, see the full header information and if you can forward the copy to OpaQue. He can investigate further and put a stop to spammer's phishing attempt(s).

No.But you can achieve that by using PHP code and INCLUDE command.PHP INCLUDE is a very nice function. You can include the same static HTML code to any page by simply,
include ('file_name.ext'); But you must use .php extension to the page being included, for example, home.php, reviews.php, etc.You can use .html or .htm and still use this PHP INCLUDE command. You will need to modify htaccess in that directory.
RemoveHandler .html .htmAddType application/x-httpd-php .php .htm .html Make this your .htaccess file and in your regular .html or .htm file insert the code
<?php include('nav_menu.php'); ?> Your regular .html or .htm file can now parse PHP commands. There is another method to include within regular HTML file. That is to use OBJECT to include another .html or .htm file. But I believe this make your webpage load slower. You can also use iframe to include another page but it may not be good for certain SEO.

BuffaloHelp reacted to Baniboy in Why Humans Are Smarter Than Computers? We Rule the Domain of 1. Computers need 2 digits to ANALYZE. my view.
Well, what do you exactly mean by smart or smarter? The ability to process information, calculate stuff fast? Computers already beat us in that. But by smart you mean being able to imitate human behavior when making decisions and imitating the reasons, which we don't know of yet. They would've to imitate our mood, the balance of hormones, the emotional side of us completely, to be like us. So, if computers are based on logic, and the programmers programmed the rules for them to follow, what is the problem with letting the brotha do the some decisions? Because they can't imitate our feelings, and our feelings aren't the ones that lead to logical decisions. But really, opaque, what did you mean by "smarter" in the title? Intelligence is hard to define, but smartness, although a synonym and comes close to the meaning, I think has a narrower meaning.

BuffaloHelp reacted to DodgyPhil in Why Are Most Popular Webcomics So Terrible?
I'm about to write an article about this for my website (potentially going into greater depth), but seeing as no one goes there, I'd really like to strum up some discussion on this terrible terrible topic..

I'm always amazed at how dreary and bland most of the popular webcomics are.
Video Game humour is tolerable in small doses, but using cookie cutter comic-formula to lash out at things which were designed for the sole purpose of having fun strikes me as inane.. I'll be bold and say that anybody over the age of 20 who plays videogames fanatically has taken a serious wrong turn in their lives, and probably shouldn't be exporting their brand of humour in the form of a comic in the first place.
CAD tries to break up there seriously weak content with a long running drama that even the most hardcore fans couldn't care less about. Penny Arcade uses cutesy characters as masks for the depressive rantings of two middle age men- inserting swears (lol) while attempting to destroy a certain game. Inevitably there'll be a sexy female character who lives with the protagonists, puts up with their misogynistic views, doesn't seem to notice their infantile obsession with videogames and is also a hardcore gamer.

Real life humour comics are the worst offenders of the group. Rather than copying sitcoms, and injecting surreal humour into mundane event, they simply copy paste scenes from the creators' lives. Just as with the videogame webcomics, fictional women (read: sexual objects) are inserted into the story, and the protagonists make deadpan observations about ridiculous things. There are too many of these webcomics to name main offenders, and unfortunately most of the creators seem like really nice (if not a little dull) people so I don't want to offend any of them..

Zany comics have great potential. They don't rely on regular characters, but rather employ surreal humour. I should like them as they do away with conventional hurdles (such as backdrops and stock characters) and rely solely on wit. Unfortunately, most take the 'zany' too far, and leave the 'humour' behind in the process. No one will agree with me, but I despise Cyanide and Happiness. Almost every strip involves a vaguely dirty joke, but uses no subtlety- most of the punchlines are words such as 'anal bleeding' or 'forced sex'. When they're not promoting their brand of charmless smut, their punchlines are incomprehensible..

Webcomics have so much potential. With no media input and total creative control, you'd think we'd be exploring strange new realms of comedy- but most of these strips could've appeared in the New Yorker 40 years ago (ignoring the token cultural references to iPods and Tiger Woods that it's the law for modern webcomics to include).

My question is, what's your take on the subject, and have you found any web comics that seriously absorb you! I'm not just a hater, I actively try and enjoy new things, so will happily try and get into any of the webcomics you suggest- I'm just sick of the most popular ones at the moment.. Thanks!
