my audio card is a pile o sŁ$*t it came standard when i baugt my laptop well each one to there own some do finde fruity loops rather annoying to use and rather limited in options but thats down to a general lack in fruity knolage but not the users fault that i would put down to the makers of fruity loops as i personal dont thik it is advertised enough. you see whils fruity loops lacks the obveouseness of outher software for eas of use it does have the hidden gems that well whence found can bring alot moe to your tunes. but as i have seid befour each one to there own reason is good to and sony acid a bit to plane for me but still verry usefull. Software/Fruity loops. Tutorial covering / arpiggeator VST Used / Nexus (you can use nearly all other VST plugins as most if not all of them have a built in arpiggeator) Tutorial level / Begginer-Intermedeate/ Files /arp piano+chord.mp3/arp alone.mp3/no arp piano+chord.mp3/arp piano low.mp3/no arp piano alone.mp3/arp tutorial midi.mid/ you can obtaine the midi file here midi.zip --------------------------------------- you can obtaine the mp3 files here arp_piano_tutorial.zip --------------------------------------- Welcome to my tutorial on the effect called arpiggeator. the arpiggeator/arp is a term used to describe the steps that you can assign to a set of chords giving the chords more life. example below files of a piano chord set.mp3 and the same piano chord set but put through and arpiggeator. the difference as you can hear is the added note's that play over the corse of the chords length so to look at it in a simpler way as the chords play the arpiggeator add's more note that are related to the chord note's positions within the piano roll. now that I have described the arpiggeator effect I am going to try and teach you how to set it up within Nexus(please remember that although that I used nexus for this tutorial you can follow this tutorial whilst using other VST plugins as they all follow pretty much the same principle for the arpiggeator setup.) take note to the image bellow in the image above you can see the arpiggeator setting within nexus. first I am going to describe what the highlighted setting does. Yellow / quite clearly the ON OFF setting (this is used to switch on or off the arpiggeator effect.) Pink/ The mode of step (This is used to assignee the step (the step is in simple terms what make the arpiggeator effect ascend or descend within the arp effect) Green/ Octave's (this setting allows you to chose the distance through the octave scale that the chords travel/an octave scale is a note that is set 8 notes apart from the predecessor for example in a middle C octave scale you would begin with the key Middle C and ascend or descend 8 notes to stop at another C note giving you an Octave scale.) Blue/ Speed this gives you the opportunity to allow the arpiggeator effect to travel fast through the chords giving more notes or slower giving less notes.(EG when it refers to speed it doesn't mean that it will run through the chord sequence at a faster or slower speed it simply mean's that it will play more notes if set to a faster speed or less notes if set to a slower speed.) White/this is the preset setting in this option you can set a standard arpiggeator effect that comes preset into the VST plugin. Red/this is the table where you basically tell your arpiggeator effect what it is going to do. Example in this image below I setup the table (highlighted in red) to play high notes in the arp giving you this effect (arp piano/arp_piano_alone.mp3) as you can see in the picture below I have moved all the notes that sat atop the table (highlighted in red) and placed them at the bottom of the table doing this will give you this effect (arp low /arp_piano_low.mp3) so in effect everywhere that there was a not set atop the table it now being set at the bottom of the table plays a low note instead of its original high note. whilst there are several setups that you can preassign to the arpiggeator I personally prefer to play around with the table setup and see what comes out of it in the end. well that about cover the arpiggeator for any further questions please post below thank you. please note that all material created for this tutorial was created by myself for the intention of this tutorial it is copyrighted to myself but I give permission to use this material only for the use in combination with this tutorial you are not given permission to publish any works presented within this tutorial as your own material.

Creating a bass mellody tutorial Software / fruity loops VST Plugins / Nexus,VANguard Song Style / Trance Tutorial Level / Beginner files needed to download bellow. bass_mellody_files.zip ok to start I am going to teach you how to create what's sometimes referd to as a bass mellody. A bass mellody is used in most trance songs as its primary function is to fill out the song by this I mean make the song sound a bit fuller to add depth to it. a bass mellody is never made of more than a few note styles. see below In the above image you can see that I have use in all a total of three different note styles. Style one (a). is a standard length note consisting of two squares with a time lease of one second. Style two (. is a half length note consisting of one square with a time lease of half a second. Style three ©. is a quarter length note consisting of a quarter of a square with a time lease of a quarter of a second. these three different style note when played alone can create a rather catchy bass mellody alone so don't be discouraged if you think you cannot yet manage to use the three different styles of notes. but for today I am going to teach you to use the three different types. first in the above image you can see how this bass mellody is structured. if you cannot create this structure slone the you can download the midi file heremidi.zip but it does help to try and create this structure yourself as it gives the experience of creating a structure like this. now not all bass mellody's are created in this same structure infect some a really simple consisting of nothing more than a few notes example below. but beware whilst it can be difficult to manifest a good and full bass mellody settling for the simpler option can leave you ending short. But another thing to take note of is that although a full song is more fulfilling a song that is to full will only sound like a cat in a trash can. try never to over fill a song. whilst creating a bass mellody there is one thing in particular that is considered to be my personal golden rule when selecting a key voice (sound) for the bass mellody never ever pick a key voice (sound) that has a lower frequency than that of your actual bass line as it will overtake your actual baseline and become the primary bass sequence whilst leaving behind a rather wholesome amount of distortion. (distortion does not always occur in this case it can simply sometimes just sound plane old boring) a good key voice (sound) that is a personal favourite of mine to use is what is refer to in most VST plugins as a pike (this will come under the plunk or pluck category) they produce a rather fetching combination of sound working together through the bass mellody and the main bass line. after creating the bass mellody and selecting a key voice (sound) for the mellody its just a matter of mastering between the bass mellody and main baseline. once you have done that you have or at least should have a good mixing bass mellody and baseline that gives more fulfilment to your song. as an example you can download below a small song loop that I have created with and without the bass mellody to notice the difference in fulfilment within the song. this is with the bass mellody with_bass_mellody.mp3 and this is without the bass mellody without_bass_mellody.mp3 there isnt a massive diffence but you can here the diffence. well i hope this tutorial helpd you keep your eyes open for more as they will be coming soon.

Ok welcome to my tutorial. Covering/ The Porta Efect how to obtaine it. Skill level needed/ anny plugin used/ sytrus platform / fruity loops I am going to attempt to create this tutorial in this simplest manny to understand. i tent to detale to much. recently a freind of mine aske me how i obtained the porta or outherwise known as slideing efect in one of my songs. well its rather simple really, the porta/slide efect can be heard here i have added backgound noize for copywirte puposes.porta_01_mp3_.mp3 first thing to no is that its not as hard as you think to use an efect as this. there are manny ways to create it but for this tutorial i will show you one of those ways. ok to start paste the midi file into your pianoroll (download herepotra_01_midi_.zip) secondly replace the current setting with sytrus (a standard fruity loops plugin) to do this rite click the box to the left of the pianoroll and hover over the option of replace to show anouther window. in this window simply select the vst plugin calld sytrus. above is an image of sytrus as we will need to change one thing on it, next thing you want to do is select whats known as the key voice. in highlited above in the color pink is the navigation for sytrus rite click it and select the key voice calld Basic Subtracting 2 highlited in yellow is the modulation pannel of sytrus. simply drag the crosshair to the point X (detaled in image as yellow cercle). thats it for sytrus next is the actual porta efect. click on the left pannel next to the blue highlighted box to bring up the channel setting sampler. (channel sampler image below) now click the tab calld misc (middle tab) now here highlighted in the image as red is the porta settings. im not going into to much detale infact im just going to get you to set it to a position i prefer. this way you can messaround a bit with it to get used to the strngth of the efect. ok turn the blue highlited dial to half way 50% with the white line facing up. (allways make sure that the check box nex to the word porta is highlited by orange/selected) now play your mellody and there you have it if followd correctly you should have acheved the porta efect. Anny questions please post below.

ok if like me you like two pints the comonly showd prgram on bbc three then you would have found out that on the 13'th of january they braudcast a new episode live at 9.00pm but to my dismay i found out by watching that they decided to kill of one of the main charicters. johnynow i dont no if there is an underliying plot to resurect this chariter in an almost living dead fasion but i see it as rather dissapointing to finde as a long term fan ofthe program that they removed the viatl charicter johny.they claim him dead by shark in hawai.on anouther note charicter donna came on set wearing a rather frisky yet apreceated cabroley outfit.janet to my dismay whilst being a usual plot chariter spent most of the run time arguing over a what would seem like re-edited rerun of the epesode where donna and janet faught over a barmad position.kelly recent bar mad has now bin replaced with a gay if not camp bar tender.and gaz being as his usual self trying not to get upstaged.in all a major disapointment.what did you think.as a long term fan of two pints i exspected more than this.

My Own Created Midi Files a set of my midi files

hi there i understand you have made a remix of one of my songs. now when i sied that you should name the song in that way i ment that you should word the song like this DJ StarSkream/song name/ remix/ by / your name if you dont word it like that then you wont get credit for the remix so make sure in futre that you put your name in anny remix you make also as outher wise someone else can simply say they created it. -
ok so this being the final part in this tutorial i would like to say that i give permission to remix the content gatherd over the course of this tutorial as it is the sole propperty of myself in and of that i created it. you have the permisson to,remix the origeonal contentpublis your remix aslong as you name it as (dj starskream.song title, remix by,your name,)publicly play and earn from it as a title produced by dj starskream but remixd by yourselfs.now if at anny time the above rules of remix are not followd provideing that you intend to release as a remix by yourself the you will be persued by a lawyer.but dont worry to much as im not all that graspy.(in outher words its not like i got lawyers lineing up around the corner.)ok and now for the remaining part of the tutorial.ok in this tutorial i will cover anny and hopefully all that you can add to make the song seem a bit fuller to listen to .rite sofar you have or atleast should have compleated the bit of song we have created but dont worry if it dont seem finishd to you, thats becauce when i made the song i only made a small bit of it not the entier thing this is because it gives you a chance to test what you have learnt and try to compleate the song in your own style.now the purpose iof this last tutorial is to fill out the mellody as you only should have aroun three mellodys max if you added anny more yourself.now its all good and well having a song with only three melodys but if you just repeat that over and over and over it beggins to be a bit like a drone which no-one ever wants to listen to.so what you have to do is exsperiment but creating your own mellodys that you can litrely bung into the song annywhere you see fit to whilst you remember that the more you put into a song the gbetter it sounds but to much in a song and it then just sounds like crap. so dont over doo it.some times you never really need to add to much to a song, it depends on wether the mellodys you use is catching enough that you dont want to change it. in that case you just need to change a few things in the mellody you allready have further allong in the song so as not to over repeat it to the listener.well although not much that is about it.remember eventhough i have tryd to give you a meens to create a sellable song i donot and canot garrenty that annything you do withtin and from my tutorials will ever grant you sucsess in the song you have created. that is all down to you.well happy mixing and have a good 2008 make it the best year yet.best regards for 2008

ok part three now which covers the precusions setup of the small song i built for this tutorial. the nesecery files can be downloaded here the image below is included in the precusions folder as it mught not be entierly visable within this post so shold you need it its there also the images purpose is to enable you to see what i am refering to within this tutorial lateron. now what i have done above is blackd out every pattern that has nothing to do with the precusion. so the patterns displayed in light grey are the only patterns i will be refering to. ok lets beggin, as this isnt a full song i devoted alot of precusion to the star of the song, i have made it in a way as to bring itself into the main mellody with a bang so to speak. so if you refer to the image you will see the layout of the songs in its entiery.(thats what it will look like when we have compleate all the tutorial parts.) so looking at the image you can see i have named the precusion sections acordingly so that whan i refer to them in this tutorial you will hopefully inderstand what im gooing on about. annyway looking at the image you can see that to start the precusion sequens you begin with a revercd cymble. 1. a revercd cymble is exactly what it sounds like a cymble that has bin reversd to give a slideing efect to itself. 2.a reversd cymble useually comes acompanyd by anouther cymble but not a reversd one i will exsplane shortly. next after the revercd symble you will see a line down and directly after the reversd cymble you have a crash cymble. 1.a crash cymble is a cymble hit hard and allowd to sound aloud createing a bang efect. 2.a crash cymble is useually acoumpanyd by a reversd cymble but the rev cymble being befour the crash cymble i will exsplane shortly. next as we are going down the page from top to bottom we hav an empty pattern calld, now the reason for this is that although the pattern looks empty it actually isnt. the sample that is set to this pattern is not used directly to the pattern it is set to like the outhers it insted is used below in what i refer to as the wave feild. the sample is referd to in the image as haveing a red circle on it. look to the bottom of the image. now the reason i have put this sample in there and not in the useuall place of the playlist as are all the outhers is that by putting anny particular sample in the wave feild gives you a greater range of editability in wave form. wave form is a form that insted of being like the outhers note for note is like a wave of the samples you have just created. the sample used here for this method is what i refer to as a snare rollin. to create a snare rollin all you have to do is use a sample of a snare drumb and in the piano roll (you can aquier the piano roll via rite clicking the sample when it is on the samples paller and selecting piano roll.) now take a look at this image if to small download this one what you are looking at is the pianoroll i have highlited and labled all the nessecery compontets which i will be refering to so that you will hopefully understand what i am talking about. step 1. notice the blue highlited area has numbers in it thos numbers can be thaugh of as your beat count. for everyone of those numbers there is 4 beats. so inturn you have to past in your piano roll the snare notes as it looks in the picture. this will create thesnare rollin. stpe 2. insted of placeing the snare roll in inside of the playlist window as are the outhers after goingin inside of the piano roll just simply click the same area inside the wave feild as shown in the 1st image on this page and you will have a snare rollin pasted there. next looking at the echo kick this is placed undernethe the second cymcrash in the playlist.it is simply a strong kick that has depth put through and echo efect (i will rite a tutorial on efects soon) now next is the rythem hats this is simply a sample set of hats pasted into the pianoroll on that pattern in the playlist you can download them from alot of places. next is the 1'st kick set now this kick set runs for 8 lenghts of the pianoroll so it starts at number one and ends at number 8. you can create the 1'st kick set with at the 7th numbeer stoping and just b4 you end it createing a rucus litrely inside that pianoroll number to create a small kick roll in. (rukus = mess) next is the claps now simple to setup all you need to remember is for every two kicks there is one clap so for example kick kick kick kick kick kick kick kick clap clap clap clap lastly there is the 2'nd kick set this set just runns the kick through with no breaks in it so it is just kicks continuously for the lenght of 8 numbers in the piano roll. well thats about it for htis tutorial all you do need to remember is that for eveything you bring into the song it is allways good to bring it in with a revcymble to crashcymble. please take the time to answer the poll as it will help me improve my tutorials for you.
