A Gmail Sign Up Webpage really needed
pyost replied to CaptainRon's topic in Websites and Web Designing
There is no need for that. There are many web sites that send invites. One of them is http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. I requested an invitation from them maybe a year ago and they had a lot left. But now they've got only 17 left, so hurry up! -
World's Smallest Website the smallest in the word
pyost replied to iGuest's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I must say that this is an interesting idea, but the size really turns off. I did want to check it out and I even played games (which are btw unbelievably done), but after 10 minutes I just couldn't stand it anymore. Being 15 cm from my monitor is not so good. I prefer playing the real Pacman -
GDrive: Google's Next Step !
pyost replied to dhanesh1405241511's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Hm, I think I've heard something about that before.. Not sure what it was, but as far as I know, there is a program (not made by Google) that allows you to connect to you e-mail storage space and put files there. But I don't think it was approved by Google. If this really happened, that would be great. Even better if those files were available for download. That means no more rapidshare and megaupload! -
Neat stuff! It really did turn out real.. What are the originals like? And what did you use?

Worlds Largest Search Engine Directory with links to submission pages
pyost replied to geancanach's topic in Search Engines
It's a nice idea, but the problem is that they've missed out a lot of countries. For example, my country has 2 or 3 good search engines, but they are not there. Nevertheless, it's good -
My N00bish Works Of Art Expect more...
pyost replied to pyost's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
OK, sorry for the double post, but here's another one. It's not really for this forum, it's photography, but I didn't want to make a new topic. It's a picture I took while travling to Kopaonik (a mountain in Serbia). We were having a break and there was this lovely river with I tinny waterfall. I just had to take a picture of it! I never thought I would da something with it, but here it is. I decreased the picture size, because it wasn't very hign quality. I also removed all the colours except the river colours. So it turned out really nice with a black frame I added. Didn't want to hotlink, so here's a link to DA: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ -
All the bulleting board system need little space, but that shouldn't be the main factor. As WeaponX said, SMF is the best for your needs. If you don't want to pay for a BBS, you are left with SMF and phpBB.phpBB is full of holes and even I can crack it. You can find bunch of tutorials on doing this, and a lot of people do it just out of fun. So, stay away from phpbb if you don't want to be annoyed. On the other hand, SMF is great. Personally, I don't like it, I prefer IPB, which I use, but it is great. It is rather customizable and I believe there is a fair number of modifications. What's even better, there's almost no way to crack it. At least it can't be found online easily. So if you SMF get's cracked, know that it has been done by a professional who can probably crack all BBSs

There is a great web site with free flash games that you can use on your webiste. They are not multiplayer, but it's nice to play single player too. I think it's http://www.freeonlinegames.com/, or there is a link there. Anyway, they are about 500 - 1000 kB, so you can put quite a lot if you have #2 package.

Ok, so now I've solved the forum links problem, I just had to change the board url in the config file. But a problem still remains! What do I get if I change my domain and will I lose any of my configured domains?
-
I have finally bought a domain name, so I wanted it to work with my Xisto account. I changed the nameservers with my domain (godaddy.com) and parked it in my CPanel. When I enter the domain I get my web site, and all the links look good, but when i go to http://myDomain.com/forum, which is actually subdomain.astahost.com, I do get http://myDomain.com/forum, but all the links are subdomain.astahost.com/forum/index.php?something. After clicking on any of them, it switches to the Xisto address. Also, none of my Xisto subdomain (smth.subdomain.astahost.com) aren't working. Now, will this all be solved if I go to https://support.xisto.com/ and change my domain name? What should I do exactly to fix all these probles? I really don't want to spend 15 credits for nothing, or make some stupid mistake, so I need detailed instructions

Then you should try making your own software like phpWki But I think that would be uneccessary. Just think a bit harder. There must be something people need but isn't easy to find (and is legal at the same time)
-
Well, you might use wikipedia software and choose a subject. That way people may also add so you won't have to do all the work. However, you will have to be careful, sometimes people abuse the phpwiki possibilities.
-
Well, if you don't have any ideas, make something that you can profit from :oMake a web site with bunch of useful things and then put AdSense on it Of course, don't cheat, just let it go with the flow. Also, get a domain, so Google can rank you higher. After that just add more articles and watch the cash flow ;)NB: This might not work as stated here

Yahoo Domain Sale: $2.99/yr. For .com
pyost replied to akijikan's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Sorry for bumping an old topic, but I will probably buy the yahoo domain in a few hours. I just wanted to know if there are some drawbacks etc. - someone who uses this could be really helpful. I'm planning on buying a .net domain for one year by using MasterCard. Will this work properly with Xisto and is there anything I should know? -
Not bad, but I have found another one. It is called iPower (http://www.ipower.com/). They have domain forwarding (which I need) and it is cheap, only $2.95. What is interesting, though, is that when you order a domain name, 1 year cost $2.95 and 2 years over $10! How come? Anyway, what do you think about it? Does it look prefessional enough? I have never bought anything online, so I wouldn't like to be scammed the first time. After all, the credit card I would use isn't mine - lol I'm only 15

Web Design: Templates Or Start From Scratch? Your opinions
pyost replied to HellFire121's topic in Websites and Web Designing
CMS is the best thing to use if you want a good-looking site without too much effort. It usually has a wide range of templates and you can customize the content arrangement. It also has a great way of controling the content - much more easy then a html template. -
Here's a nice one for future Microsoft employees. I've solved it in six minutes. M$, here I come!

Is there any need to make a request or something? And can you explain the process of buying a domain? I have never done anuthing like that before.. Where do I point the domain to Asta servers?

Do You Run A Forum-website Forum-Website Poll
pyost replied to Harry1984a's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I've had a few tries myself at free forum host, but it usually didn't work. Now I am administrating a real forum, with a normaln domain name - and it's working just fine! It was uploaded in November and it has collected 102 members until now. That is great since it is not in English - it shows that there are people interested in "foruming" after all. My suggestion to you all is that if you have a good idea and/or forum topic, save some money and create one at a payed host. -
Say Something Nice About The Person Above You!

Warbird has a great signature (the one with 10 people) -
Oh well, then what would be the best solution for something like that? I'm still not ready to pay for a host, I barely decided to buy a domain! If you have any suggestions, please tell me. ~edit~ After some Googling I discovered what AddOn Domains are. Could this be used?
-
If these have been answered before, I am really sorry.I have my hosting at a subdomain, and there a few websites over there. One of those might be interesting for other people, so I would like to use a domain name for it. If I buy a domain name, is there a way to point only to that website, since it is in a sub folder (mysite.astahost.com/desiredsite)?Next one. If it is not possible do this, is it allowed to have hosting at Xisto and Xisto at the same time (with posting at both)?Thank you

Yes, it is really nice to use MySQL databases. If you use a CMS, like I do, it is also very easy. Just make a new database in CPanel and then run the CMS installation. But what if you want to make it more complicated? Just do what I did!I have decided to put another Joomla! CMS powered website on my hosting space. Since I didn't want to make it available right away, I dug out Xampp, which I tried using earlier, but didn't really like it. Now it was my only option, so I installed it. After make a new database, installing the CMS and adding some data, I found it prepared enough to be put online. That's where my troubles started.File upload went OK, and I somehow changed the configuration file so it could use the Xisto MySQL base I was about to upload. I started off with a simple phpMyAdmin gzipped database export. Even though I had everything in my head, how was I supposed to do it, there were still a few.. Drawbacks.. When I tried just simply restoring the database from the CPanel, but it just said "Restoring Database" and nothing else. Sometimes it also said "Creating Database", but I would get an empty database every time. When I switched to phpMyAdmin first I had troubles finding the improt function. Of course, it didn't work - it found a syntax error! The next thing I tried was using the query window (which I had troubles finding ). It also told me that I had a syntax error at a certain line. In order to purge the problem, I made an Xisto database export to compare these two. It was almost the same, except one thing. In some places, the localhost had COLLATE something blah blah latin_something (not sure what it said). When I tried removing that part and then starting a part of the code taken from the DB in the query window, it worked! After that I removed all the part containing the COLLATE command and queried the code. Luckily, it was the end of my problems! Now everything is working just fine.As far as I am informed, this problem has appeared because of different version of phpMyAdmin and/or MySQL (forgive me if I have made a stupid statement). So, is there a way to solve this problem without messing with the exported MySQL code? Just to know if I try something like this again..

iTunes' .m4p Music-files With Bad Quality? iTunes, files. music
pyost replied to Harry1984a's topic in Software
But that won't help a lot, since you can't improve the qualtiy with that. Sure, you can raise the bitrate, but the sound would remain pretty much the same. It's like enlarging a jbg image. Anyway, 128kbps is like a standard, and the difference between 192kpbs and 128kbps isn't really noticable. Just Google for 'wma to mp3 converter' or visit http://download.cnet.com/windows/. That usually helps -
