This should help you decide.... Seriously though, it depends on the end-user's preferences. I say this because of the all the viruses one can get. Of course, other operating systems have disadvantages too, in terms of user-friendliness, and varieties of programs. Macs have quite the key-combinations required in order to bring up certain menus. Linux... Linux is quite a thing all on it's own. It's hard to talk about Linux because of the countless numbers of distrubutions there are. But a common thing I've found across Linux distributions id that necessary use of the Terminal. Usually when you need to install a program, but you don't have all the dependancies that program needs, you have to install them through the Terminal. If you want simplicity and an easy Interface, use Windows. If you want a good amount of security but still want to use programs such as Photoshop, Dreamweaver, et cetera... then use MacIntosh. And if you want to join a minority community of Open-Source, use Linux. Of course all operating systems take time to get used to. You wouldn't want them all to be similar to Windows, would you? I'd hate that.

Why Are Commercials Getting So Retarded?
Icarus replied to dizilluziondmasokist's topic in General Discussion
The don't like that Hyundai commercial. The one where they're comparing it to a BMW or something, and at the end the narrator says, "But the BMW does come with more cup holders." Why don't they just put in an extra cup holder? Then they wouldn't have to say that. There was also a new Hyundai commercial out that was based on the same style. Only at the end of this one, the narrator says (something along the lines of), "But the BMW is faster." I'm sure he doesn't say exactly that... I'll have to watch it again. But the point is, it's not a very good commercial.I can't quite remember them at the moment, but hopefully I'll across them again. There's a television show called Ad Persuasion, where they analyze commercials and say why it's so good. Some of the commercials they choose are pretty good. But I've also never seen some of them before. The show is on a channel called TV Tropolis and it airs on Saturdays some time between 9:00PM and 11:00PM. I'm not sure if anyone gets that station, but if you do, spend a night and watch it. -
I use the internet for a variety of things. I use it for finding tutorials and eBooks on PHP/Python or solving problems in those languages; frequenting message boards; checking my inbox; Instant Messaging; and, of course, Stumbling. I'm not at all interested in Social Networking. I don't really have a reason why that is, just never appealed to me. I don't really search for news either... of course, I Stumble across it ocassionally. It's usually interesting or 'out-of-this-world' kind of news.

I'm not fond of Ikea assembly instructions either. Or their customer service for that matter. When I bought a dresser, it was missing a part, and the parts were numbered or labelled at all so describing it to the customer service was a real adventure. But you're lucky if you even manage to talk to customer service, I was on hold for like 4 hours before someone spoke with me. So after that was done with, and being a month later, the part finally came. I was actually kind of excited (the I would get to use all the drawers). But that immediately degraded to frustration as I find out that they send the wrong part! So I called them up again (going through the same process as before), and another month or two later they show up with the correct part. It was a real adventure, and that personally turned me away from Ikea. I'd make my own furniture if I had the materials. Unfortunately I don't. There really don't seem to be any exceptional furniture retailers. Well I can't really think of any at the moment, besides La-Z-Boy.

Microsoft Update Program Being Used By Hackers
Icarus replied to Saint_Michael's topic in Security issues & Exploits
Yeah I saw this on another site and didn't think much of it, till I realized the date of the article, and thought, "Oh crap, I might have downloaded it," and turned off Automatic Updates. Can anyone tell me the name of the malicious files? I don't think I'm infected, but I want to do a search for them just to make sure. -
I've always preferred the iPods. I try to stay away from supporting Microsoft whenever I can. When the Zune first came out (about a year after the 5th Generation iPod Video), it seemed pretty good considering it had a bigger screen, and Wifi capabilities. The Wifi capabilities did sound cool at first, till you learn that the only thing you can do with it is exchange songs with other Zunes (And only keep for 3 days or something). The iPod Touch, released recently, has definitely managed to blow the Zune out of the water. It's got a 3.5 inch touch, wifi internet access, plays videos, but only has 16GB of memory. That's something I'm fine with, though. It's basically an iPhone without the Phone Feature. I agree with runeco, the iPods always were a bit pricey, but Microsoft seems to just follow the path that it's other competitors have already made, and adds in a mediocre feature (like the Wifi-feature in Zune, or the Aero Glass interface in Vista). Apple has been in the Poartable-Music Player market far longer than Microsoft has. Micosoft, in my opinion, is a nameless and faceless corporation. It shows in their products/marketing as well.

What Would You Do If There Was No Internet? hmm...
Icarus replied to whyme's topic in Science and Technology
Well I certainly wouldn't be into web developing / web designing. I'd probably spending most of my days with things like related to Metal-Smithing. That'd actually my secondary choice of a career next to becoming a programmer. Well either that or an architect. Architecture requires a lot of University tuition though. I'd for sure be a lot more active in things like sports, socializing with other people, and going out just for the fun of it.I certainly wouldn't be as desensitized as I am today, if the internet never existed. It's quite intriguing to see what the internet has to offer, which is virtually everything. You just have to know where to look really. The internet has contains certain things that should never be viewed be anyone. Things like 'LOL Cats,' 'Clock-Spider,' 'All Your Base Are Belong To Us,' 'Star Wars Kid,' Chuck Norris Jokes, 'Leeroy Jenkins,' 'Ultimate Showdown,' 'Spaghetti Monster,' and countless other Internet Memes wouldn't exist. Which give us 'LOL's' but annoy most of us even more. There also wouldn't be any StumbleUpon, or StumbleUpon Insomnia.I'd probably be a completely different person if it wasn't for the internet. I'd probably be a much better person actually. I can't say why that is. But to me, it feel the internet is partially responsible for the way I act (what a surprise.), and my sense of humour. Doesn't it seem like the Internet teaches us to find humour in other peoples' pain? The world would be so different without the internet, because so many things are influenced by the Internet. It'd be hard to say what I'd do without it. -
A hahaha feels like I'm joining a gang :PI'll check this out, it'd be nice working with others. I'm usually 'freelance'. Either way, it's a good place to start accomplishing my goals. Thanks jlhaslip.

Even better than Microsoft? That wouldn't be hard at all. Everytime Microsoft releases a new O/S, they're releasing more restrictions along with it. The DRM's get worse, the O/S gets more and more bloated which usually requires the user to perform a Hardware upgrade (for no apparent reason), the user-friendliness lessens, and the 0-day viruses will just keep increasing. I couldn't imagine Google actually manufacturing Operating Systems or Computers. Though, it would cool if they did. And they probably would closely fit LethalX's description. I've read on a few sites that Google is going to be coming out with their own Internet Browser called GBrowser. A quick Whois lookup gives reasoning that there might be a GBrowser. Google is certainly expanding. It's hard to believe what they've become today, looking back at the early days when Google was started as a Project at Stanford University, searching less than 100 pages, featuring a table of a few links to special searches / information about Google, an Archive of 'Google Friends', and a subscription service informing you monthly about any updates to the Google site.

A Hang (Pronounced 'Hung') Drum... sounds like something you'd Hang off a roof or such. Well it's not. It's a new kind of instrument. Well relatively new... It was created circa 2000, and can produce an interesting mix of different ethnic-type sounds. It looks like two bowls binded together, made of a metal, circular, and you generally use your hands to to produce the sounds (of course, one could always experiment with using different types of percussion sticks). I've only recently found out about these, myself, and thought it be neat to tell other people about them. It's a really neat instrument. Here are some videos (from YouTube) of people playing a Hang Drum: Well Hang Improvising on my own Hang Drum!! Hang Drum with synchronized delays Sunset Hang Drum Jam #2 Hang Drum- Manu Delago I think it's an awesome instrument. What do you think of it? Would you buy / play one? Would you use one in your band / recording / live performance? Check out the site - http://www.hang-music.com/

How's it going? Edit: A little about me? Alright, I'm a Web designer that's aspiring to become a web developer / programmer. The only language I know at the moment is PHP, but have been getting to know Python quite a bit lately. I'm trying to move away from MySQL and have been starting to use Postgres SQL. I probably sound crazy for saying this, but I'm also not fond of this 'Web 2.0' entity. I've been attempting to program my own Message Board script, from the ground up, in PHP. But that's fallen apart since I've started learning Python. My goal for now is to program a Message Board in Python. I never know what to tell people about myself, but hopefully the above helps you get to know me a bit better.
