Make a new document with a white background. Click the type tool (or Ctrl+t) and write your desired text in black.
Right Click on that layer in the little layer window and select Rasterize Layer.
Step Two
Merge the text image with the background image by hitting "Ctrl+E" Then go to Filter>Pixelate>Crystallize. Set the Cell Size as "3".
Go to Filter>Stylize>Find Edges. Then go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur. Enter 1.0
Step Three
Go to Image>Rotate Canvas>90? CW. Then go to Image>Adjustments>Invert (Ctrl+I). Then Filter>Stylize>Wind. (Make the method is "wind" and the direction is "from the left")
Go to Image>Rotate Canvas>90?CCW. (this should turn it back round so you'll know if its upside down!)
Then go to Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation (Ctrl+U). Check the "Colorize" option, and input these numbers.

TriBal effect
this tutorial we will create tribal kind of shapes. I wont be explaining how to make one certain thing but we will go trough the technique of how to create them so you can use your own fantasy to create your own shapes. To start out, we will create a new image of 400X400 Pixels with a white background. To start we will make the "main" lines. Create a new layer and call this layer "main". Now take the elliptical marquee tool and make a selection of about 2 times the size of the image. Hold SHIFT while creating the shape to get a nice round circle. You should have a selection like on the image: What you see on the image is the top of the selected circle.
Step 2
Now select the MAIN layer and fill the circle with black. Now hold SHIFT while pressing the down arrow 2 times and the left arrow 1 time. Press DELETE. Deselect. You should have something like the image.
Step 3
Create a new layer. Make a selection with the elliptical marquee tool, a bit smaller than last time. Now move the circle again and again press delete to clear the rest of the circle. I had something like the image. The smaller the circles get, the less space you have to move the selection untill you delete the "other part" of the circle.
Step 4
Now continue creating lines like this, each one a little bit smaller, I made 4. Try to get something similar to the image.
Step 5
Now its time to add the details. Zoom in on a line you have and create a new layer. Take the elliptical marquee tool again and make a selection as is done in the image, make sure you have it about in the middle of the line.
Step 6
Now fill this on the new made layer and then move the circle up. Delete it on the edges of the line its on, like the image.
Step 7
Do this a couple of times until each line has 2-3 of them. If you want to have a little bit of diversity you can delete one part of the 'detail'. I came up with this image.
Conclusion
If you want you can select all the layers and give it a gradient or a drop shadow for the effect. This is what I finally got out of it, You can get something like this by just flipping the image around and pasting one side to the other.

Step One
First of all, fire up Photoshop, and create a new canvas, mine is going to be 300px*100px, create a new layer, and make a rectangular selection encompassing the entire horizontal area of the canvas, and about 40px high, as shown to the left.
Step Two
Now, fill the selection with a color of your choice (it is irrelevant) and set the fill opacity to 0% Now, double click on the layer, or go layer--layer styles--bevel and emboss to get to the layer styles options.
Step Three
Apply the following layer styles: Bevel and Emboss Style: Inner Bevel Technique: Smooth Depth: 100% Direction??? Size: 1 Soften: 0 Angle: 90 Altitude: 55 Highlight Mode: Lighten, Opacity: 80% Shadow: 0% Opacity Gradient Overlay Blend Mode: Normal Opacity: 100% Style: Linear Angle: 90 Scale: 100% Gradient: #4C4E8D --> #34AEE1 Reverse: Checked Stroke Size: 1 Position: Outside Blend Mode: Normal Opacity: 100% Fill Type: Color Color: #253477
Step Four
Click OK, and you should have something *very* similar to that shown to the left.
Conclusion
Well, you are essentially finished, wasn't that easy! Here is what I came up with using this idea (whilst in a grungy mood ) Note that the colors are pretty much irrelevant, you just need to have a dark --> light gradient from top to bottom, then a highlight over the dark part.

Cool metal rear that will stick out----------------------------------------
01. Create a new document. In this tutorial I start with canvas size 320x320, background #555555.
Use the Pen Tool (P) to make draw a curve path. This will be the shape of your tube later.
Note: Make sure you are making a path and not a shape layer. Select the paths option on the toolbar (with 3 more buttons) under the main menu.
02. Select the Brush Tool ( and select a round solid brush in the brush palette. Choose the diameter of your tube. In this tutorial I used 25px.
03. Create a new layer. You will be creating the tube on this layer. Choose back the Pen Tool (P) and right click on the drawing area and select Stroke Path. Use the settings as shown.
04. You will get a shape of a tube as shown below. Delete the path by pressing Delete few times until the path is removed or press Enter to hide it.
The colour of the shape doesn't matter now. We will be filling it with another colour later.
05. On the Layers window, hold Ctrl and click on the small preview to make a selection of the tube layer shape.
06. Go to the Channels window and click on the Save Selection As Channel button as shown below. This will be the Alpha 1 channel.
Click on the channel to edit it.
07. Your edit area should appear like shown below.
08. Apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with the settings as shown.
09. Click back on the tube shape layer (Layer 1) to edit it.

this one is pretty hard but it will look cool when finnished

Step One
OK, first of all we make a new canvas, mine is 400x400 pixels, with a black background. Now using the type (text) tool, write something across the middle of the canvas, I have written 'hello' as seen to the left.
Step Two
Now, rasterize the text layer (right click on the layer in the layers palette, and select rasterize layer) then rotate the layer by 90 degrees. clockwise.
Step Three
Next, we use the wind filter - go filter--stylize--wind and using the wind method, from the right, apply the filter, then press ctrl+f twice to apply the filter again. Do the same again, except from the left so you get something like that shown to the left.

Step Four
Now we use the polar co-ordinates filter, filter--distort--polar coordinates, and select polar to rectangular, you should have something like that shown to the left.
http://www.infinite-fire.net/
Step Five
With our layer selected, duplicate it (layer--duplicate) and then flip it vertically (edit--transform--flip vertical) and then align it to the bottom of the canvas by selecting the entire document (ctrl + a) and then going layer--align to selection--bottom edges. Next, merge the two layers, by selecting the upper layer and pressing ctrl+e then duplicate this layer, and rotate it 90 degrees (either way) and you should have something like that shown to the left. Now merge the layers except the background layer.
http://www.infinite-fire.net/
Step Six
Now, use the polar coordinates filter again (filter--distort---polar coordinates) this time use the rectangular to polar setting. Your image should now look like mine to the left.

--i think it looks good that it is now ^^
Step Seven
The next step is to use the radial blur (filter--blur--radial blur) with the following settings: Blur method: Zoom Quality: Best Amount: 95% Your image should now look like that to the left.
http://www.infinite-fire.net/
Step Eight
Now make another layer (layer--new layer) and change the foreground and background colors to something a little more funky, and render some clouds on the new layer (with these new colors) and then change the layer blending mode to 'color' and your image should look like mine to the left.
