About: TFCFirst released to the public on June 18th, 1999, Counter-Strike started out as just another fan-produced mod for Half-Life. But thanks to a series of steadily improving beta releases, the mod started to grow a very strong and dedicated following. As the team-oriented, tactical gameplay was refined and improved and new concepts and maps were introduced, Counter-Strike became less and less of a mere Half-Life mod and transformed into a whole new game.Today, Counter-Strike by far the most popular online action game, with tens of thousands of users playing at any given time. While sold separately in retail stores, Counter-Strike is still available as a free download for existing owners of Half-Life. In Counter-Strike, players square off on one of two teams: Terrorists or Counter-Terrorists. Each team has specific objectives for each map, such as rescuing hostages, bombing a target, or escaping a certain area. Players earn money with which they buy weapons, equipment, and ammunition based on how they perform. With realistic locations, weapons, and physics, Counter-Strike is about as close as you?ll ever get to saving the world. Or destroying it. Overview of Counter-Strike:ConceptCounter-Strike, a multiplayer modification for Half-Life, pits two teams against each other: the terrorists and counter-terrorists (CTs). The terrorists are the bad guys and the counter-terrorists are the good guys, much like the SWAT team for lack of a better comparison. It is the counter-terrorists job to complete whatever objective the map holds within the given time frame or to completely exterminate the terrorist threat. Players can buy weapons, ammo, and equipment that are realistically modeled after their real-world counterparts. In this modification teamwork is greatly encouraged in order to complete the map's objectives. After every round teams members are allocated money based on individual and team performance for that round.TeamsThere are two basic teams in Counter-Strike. In order to buy equipment, ammo, or weapons the player must be in a "shopping cart" area. A little green shopping cart will appear on the left hand side of the player's screen while he or she is able to buy goods. The default keyboard bind to pull up the "buy menu" is 'B'. Pressing B will give the player a list of categories to purchase items from. From there the player can decide what he or she needs to achieve their team's goal.Map ObjectivesThere are a variety of maps in Counter-Strike each with their own objectives. While on every map a team can win by completely eliminating the other team, all maps have an alternative option to succeeding. The hostage rescue maps have been in Counter-Strike since the first beta. In the hostage rescue maps it is up to the CTs to rescue the hostages from within the terrorist encampment and bring them to safety. Assassination, Escape, and "Defusion" are other forms of maps. In Assassination maps one of the CTs acts as a V.I.P. who must reach safety before the terrorists can extinguish him. In Escape maps a percentage of the terrorists must escape by way of an escape point before a given percentage of terrorists are killed by CTs. Defusion maps feature bomb targets, which the terrorists strive to plant a pack of C4 to and blow up. It is the CTs goal to stop the terrorists from blowing up their target.Spectator ModesWhen a player dies in Counter-Strike he is unable to continue playing until the round ends. While the player is dead he or she enters a spectator mode in which they are free to roam the entire map and check out the action as it continues to unfold. Also available in the spectator mode is the option to follow a specific player as he or she moves throughout the map for the remainder of the round. HL2 - About City 17----------------------The basic plot of Half-Life 2 is pretty simple in concept, much as the first game was. The player is once again Gordon Freeman, but rather than being involved in the action by happenstance, he's placed there by the G-Man. Players of the first game will recall being given a "choice" at the end - work for him, or die horribly. Needless to say, the former was used as the springboard for a sequel.Gordon was placed in some kind of stasis following the events in Half-Life, and is reactivated by the G-man to deal with a growing problem on Earth - aliens are running the show 1984-style, using Black Mesa's administrator, Dr. Wallace Breen, as a puppet/mouthpiece to control huamnity and maintain order. Gordon is teleported to City 17, an urban center (apparently in Russia, judging by the Cyrillic characters on some of the buildings and the names of some of the local people and places) where Dr. Breen has his main administrative center.Fortunately, Gordon is not alone against the forces of the alien Combine - characters from Half-Life are working with a resistance movement and will be more than happy to help Gordon, who has become something of a mythical figure amongst the resistance members. Doctors Kleiner and Vance, scientists from Black Mesa, have been working on some high-tech aid for humanity. Barney Calhoun ("the" security guard from Black Mesa) has been working inside "Civil Protection," the oppressive police force of City 17, to keep the reisistance as safe as possible. New characters include Dr. Judith Mossman, an assistant of Eli Vance's, and Eli's daughter Alyx.Half-Life 2 is comprised of 14 chapters. Since there's a lot to do and see in the game, as well as plenty of stopover areas in some otherwise fast-paced levels, the amount of time it takes to complete each chapter will vary based on the player's proclivity for exploration, perfection, sight-seeing, tomfoolery, hijinx, shenanigans and other sorts of goings-on. A relatively exploratory and skilled player can probably expect to spend 1 to 2 hours in each chapter on average, making for a pretty lengthy game.Apart from City 17 and its various sub-environs (a canal, a zombie-infested urban wasteland and the streets themselves), game locations include a coastal highway beset by burrowing insect-aliens, labratories, a Combine prison and, of course, the massive Citadel at the center of the city.

Eli Vance Alyx's father. He's a former Black Mesa scientist, and he'll help you during the course of your adventure. Eli didn?t escape from Black Mesa unscathed, though; he left a huge chunk of his leg behind. Judith Mossman Dr. Mossman is voiced by Michelle Forbes (Ensign Ro on Star Trek: TNG) and is an assistant of Eli's. Barney Calhoun That?s right, Barney Calhoun, the former Black Mesa security guard who managed to cheat death in Blue Shift somehow ended up in City 17 with Gordon, aiding the resistance. He sure looks different without that helmet. Dr. Kleiner Dr. Alex (Isaac?) Kleiner was Gordon's former professor at MIT and the guy who got Gordon his job in Black Mesa in the first place. This is all referred to in the employment letter at the beginning of the original Half-Life manual. He's back to (surprise!) help Gordon out in various places during the game. Dr. Kleiner has the voice of all the scientists in Half-Life. The Administrator Dr. Breen was Black Mesa's administrator, and he's now a collaborator with the aliens. He is therefore your main adversary. "I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords!" Dog Dog is Alyx's mechanical pet/bodyguard, and he helps you learn how to use the gravity gun.
