  1. China raised interest rates and bank reserve requirement ratio on Friday in the latest effort to prevent the economy from overheating.
That marked the first simultaneous use of the two monetary tools in a decade, as well as the eighth increase in reserve ratio since last July and fourth interest rate hike since last April.

The benchmark one-year deposit rate will be increased by 0.27 percentage point while the one-year lending rate will rise 0.18 percentage point starting from Saturday, the People's Bank of China said in a statement on its website.

After the announcement, the one-year deposit rate stands at 3.06 percent, slightly higher than the consumer price index growth of 3 percent in April. The one-year lending rate is now 6.57 percent.

The banks' reserve requirement ratio will be raised by 0.5 percentage points to 11.5 percent, effective from June 5, the central bank said.

The tightening measures came after a series of economic data suggested that the world's fourth largest economy is evolving towards overheating.

The gross domestic product grew 11.1 percent in the first quarter of the year while urban fixed asset investment soared 25.5 percent, official statistics showed.

Banks extended 422 billion yuan in new loans in April, bringing the amount for the first four months to 1.85 trillion yuan - more than half the total for the whole of 2006.

Inflation, measured by the consumer price index (CPI), grew three percent in April, barely meeting the central bank's target.

    Why????
    Who can tell me?

As long as Washington is playing "monopoly" with the world, Washington will need powerful enemies to justify their massive, seriously huge, military-industrial complex.

China is the perfect answer - cheap goods fueling corporate profits short term while China undergoes an industrial revolution and becomes a military powerhouse (we can "cold-war" or "hot-war" with them later)

  2. Yes. We have been aware of it for some time now, thanks to this posting from Buffalohelp.
    http://forums.xisto.com/topic/44335-web-standards-compliance-test-for-browsers-check-your-browser-here/

There is a download link in that Posting. But be careful installing it because it will replace your Firefox 2 profile. Be prepared to re-install Firefox 2 if you install Firefox 3 Alpha (codename: Minefield). And as per the posting above, Firefox 3 meets the WASP (Website Accessibility Standards Program) Standards required to comply with their "Acid Test" which measures the Browser's compliance to the w3c Standards. Only Safari on the Mac and Konquerer on Linux does that to date.

I do think this is one to watch, but for right internet uses i would stick to FF2 untill they have a fully working FF3 as it still seems to cash windows into DSOD.

  3. Which just reminds me, I got one of these 'chain-emails' from a friend of mine who said that microsoft would give him $10000 if he managed to get that email forwarded to a certain amount of addresses - yup, ridiculous that he could actually believe that, isn't it? Anyway, he desperately wanted to believe that, so I agreed to forward his e-mail - I just forwarded it to several of my own email addresses (I have quite a few) and so he was happy and I didn't bother anyone with the e-mail either.
Of course it was very silly and he didn't receive any cash - how could he even believe something like that?? Anyway, it's not for me to say anything, experience teaches best, I think. The next time a chain letter pops into his inbox, no matter what it promises, he's going to be more wary of it.

I'm just surprised people haven't learned yet. Makes you think of the 'millions in Nigeria' scams that still make the rounds. Wonder if people fall for those as well - I guess they do, arrgghh.

Spam no better than it was 10 years ago!

  4. Why not to buy Windows 1. Security Long-overdue User Account Protection, blah, blah, blah. Every single UNIX varient on the planet has had this for over twenty years. Starting to catch up, ay Microsoft? What are the odds that this will happen without more new holes? 2. Internet Explorer 7 Firefox is avalable now. With better tab handling. And better rendering. âBut IE7 has âprotected modeââa limited-rights mode that prevents third-party code from reaching your system.â So? Itâs all just a fancy name for turning off ActiveX. And you can turn ActiveX back on⌠3. Righteous eye candy Allow me to call OS X, e17, X.org, etc. Plus, you can make the Unix interface look like anything. Even something that lets you get work done. 5. Better updates Yâ know something? Windows is the only operating system that updates using a web browser. Itâs stupid, itâs always been stupid. Need I mention that OS X and Linux donât do it? 6. More media Wow! Microsoft can copy Apple by making clones of the iLife stuff. Not even good clones. Use this handy chart to figure it out: Windows Media Player - iTunes The Windows Photo Gallery - iPhoto Movie Maker - iDVD Did I mention that everything will be DRMed? âThere are even some nice new games tucked into the bundle.âIâve seen some of those new games. Solitaire, even when rendered in 3d, is still boring. 7. Parental controls Third party software has been able to do this for eons. The sad thing is that, knowing Microsoft, the third party software will still be the way to go. 8. Better backups Already have good backup software on Windows, already have good backup stuff on UNIX. Heck, you can back up all your stuff using cron, if it came down to it. 9. Peer-to-peer collaboration This is called a âwikiâ. Yeah, we all know how great it is. Having in embeded into the OS, though, you just *know* itâll be a great way to spread viruses. 10. Quick setup In the words of someone on Slashdot; âWhy am I running setup more than once anyways?â And, finally, here is reason 11 - Digital Rights Management [slashdot.org]Do you care if your computer is spying on what you do and reporting it? Do you care that Windows Vista supports this crap? Itâs amazing that people are even considering using this stuff. So, what should you do instead of getting Vista? Install Ubuntu. If you donât want to use Linux, get something from Apple. But seriously, for your own good, donât use Vista!

  5. I already have PC.

    btw I hate Wii.

Tommorow I am going to buy my PS3,I found that XBOX360

isnt better than PS3,It is far worser.

So what the point of buying a PS3 when you can just plug your PC into a TV and play the same game for a lot less money! and have real HD.

  6. * Tabbed browsing, a faster alternative to multi-window browsing. o When you open a link in a new tab, you can continue reading or clicking links in the original tab while the linked page loads.
o Unlike new browser windows, new tabs open instantly.
o You can quickly open a link in a new tab by Ctrl+clicking or middle-clicking the link.
o You can "undo" accidentally closing a tab.
    * Control. Firefox blocks unrequested pop-ups and never allows web pages to create hard-to-close full-screen windows. Firefox gives you options to prevent web sites from resizing and focusing windows.
    * Security. Malicious web sites can never install spyware without your permission. *BLEEP* in peace.
    * Privacy. Everything you might want to clear in order to cover your tracks -- cookies, cache, download history, history -- is in one place in Options. Firefox even provides a "Clear All" button to clear all of this information quickly.
    * Extensibility. The Pornzilla bookmarklets and extensions can improve your porn surfing experience far beyond what any browser vendor would dare.
    * New windows open quickly.
    * When you download a file and Firefox asks you to select a download filename and location, it starts downloading the file while it waits for your response.
    * You can save video clips quickly by Alt+clicking the (thumbnail) link to the video clip. If you save video clips this way, Firefox won't even prompt you for a filename (unless you select "Ask me where to save every file" in the "Downloads" section of Firefox's Options).
    * You can control whether videos are displayed in the browser window or saved in the "Downloads" section of Firefox's options.
    * File > Save As... works for movies being displayed by the Quicktime plug-in.
    * All visited URLs are shown in location bar autocomplete, so you can quickly see which galleries and which images you've seen within a given site.
    * While using Firefox, you won't accidentally set a porn image as your desktop wallpaper. (Firefox has a "set as wallpaper" feature, but it asks whether you want the image tiled or stretched, and the dialog has a "Cancel" button.)
    * Firefox has an image-rendering library called "libpr0n" and a cute, unofficial mascot named Firefox-ko. Firefox grew out the Mozilla Suite, whose codename is "Seamonkey" (see monkey). One of Mozilla's slogans is "free the lizard".

Ok, so if you haven’t already come to the conclusion that FireFox is the best browser, here’s another reason to switch from that security hole riddled flimsly-*bottom* Internet Explorer that you’ve been using,

Internet explorer 7 is bloatware and slows not only browsing the web - but opening directories on a drive is slowit takes so long to figure out IE's options that after 1/2 an hour you lose the will to live. Theyve dumbed it down so much and hidden the proper functionality beneath a thick layer of BS

Firefox is created by people with brains, IE is created by people with none, Interesting to note that Microsoft addressed a DRM issue quicker than they handled a security issue in their products, firefox runs Runs on Linux, Windows and OpenBSD, I downright HATE what M$ have done to the computer industry.

  7. I think they will make 4th Spiderman Movie.
Because Dr.Connors still have piece of symbyote
that Peter gave him for research.

Okay, Do NOT go see Spiderman 3. It's bad. It's bad, bad, bad, bad, bad. It's way beyond bad. It's truly, monumentaly HORRIBLE.

I went to the 10:15 showing and couldn't make it past 11:30 before I had to leave. That includes 15 or 20 minutes of previews, so I didn't even make it an hour into the film.

The story is bad, the writing is bad, the acting is bad and the direction is bad. It's all around bad. Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad. Be forewarned. It's worse than "Batman and Robin".

    I'm not kidding.

    It's bad.

  8. I believe the Wii is the best: it has the most innovative controller, great games like Super Smash Bros. and The Legend of Zelda, and it also is the cheapest amongst the three systems. While it does not have the best graphics, I belive that gaming is based on game-play and entertainment, There?s a pretty good reason why Nintendo is rocking customers, and it has nothing to do with technology & not graphic quality.Hats off to Nintendo Wii, the undisputed champion of console video game systems.

  9. As long as they kill M$ i will buy anything googles puts out.Microsoft Corp. CEO Steve Ballmer vowed to "kill" internet search leader Google Inc. in an obscenity-laced tirade, and Google chased a prized Microsoft executive "like wolves," according to documents filed in an increasingly bitter legal battle between the rivals. The only thing that M$ done for pc is make them unusable.

  10. I know a few people who have had this problem, there isnt anything that can be done, some routers just done work.
I personally use a belkin54g and that works fine with both my DS and Wii (as well as our home network).

Knock your Home network down to 64 bit wep code as the your nintendo DS wont work with anything more than that!

  11. Redmond, WA - Microsoft purchased evil from Satan for $2.7 billion after many months of tough negotiations. "We've been after Satan for some time," said CEO Steve Ballmer. "Negotiations were tough, but I think both Microsoft and the Prince of Darkness are happy with this deal." Microsoft already controls 15% of the evil market, and with this purchase that number nears 100%. The Department of Justice voiced concerns over one corporation controlling so much evil, and launched investigations. "We feel that there are real opportunities with evil, and that when evil is integrated into our next generation of Windows products consumers will appreciate evil on their desktop," said Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates. "Businesses haven't been able to fully realize their evil potential. With evil integrated into Office XP, corporations big and small will begin to see enhanced evil productivity." "Evil is a real growing market," market strategist Frank Dresgan of Merrill Lynch explained. "Microsoft is a little late in the game, but even when they enter a market late they still tend to dominate. I think we'll see the same results with evil." "I've been dealing with Microsoft for some time," Lucifer said. "I've been at this evil thing for millions of years, and wanted a way out. I considered an IPO, but then Steve-O and Billy came along and told me about their 'Evil Everywhere' plan. I just couldn't refuse." Evil was founded by Satan close to the beginning of time. It has been growing steadily ever since, although most of the growth has accelerated in the past five years with the development of the Internet. Satan plans to retire to a small island in the Bahamas and write a column for the local newspaper.
