  1. Following on from my last post and my praise of Dreamweaver.......I have just discovered BBEdit and am completely blown away :lol:In a word, it's awesome!!!Anyone who is using a mac for development (not just HTML but programming too) should check out this program! There is a free 30 day demo - try it and see what I mean. These are the features I've been most impressed by so far.1. It has a drawer - for quick switching between open files.2. Code Folding - colapses tables or even whole blocks of code into a single line which makes navigation through a long document much, much easier!3. Clippings - to hold sections of code you use often.4. Markers - mark positions in your code so you can return to them quickly.5. Fast - It is fast at switching between documents, unlike Dreamweaver. There is so much more to this program too. Just scratched the surface!Thought I'd let everyone know.
  2. I would have thought we'd have a clear consensus on this one! I guess different people have different tastes.I would definitely say Number 1!!!You have a real winner there. Nice work. Very organised, easy on the eye, very professional looking. The added top bar in number two has to go - it's too clunky. Spoils an otherwise very elegant design.Number three looks too disorganised but I think you might want to try and merge the large "music" into that first design as it makes it immediately clear what your site is related to.Hope that helps.
  3. Just thought I'd add my two cents.I too would suggest Frontpage!Or if you can get your hands on Dreamweaver again - that would be excellent for you.I started on Frontpage. Didn't have a clue about HTML and even now, have never read a book on it.In the beginning I used it like a word processor to draw everything up, but I became very curious about what was going on behind the scenes.I found a lot of the time, especially when doing repetitive work, it was quicker and easier to copy and paste code than work through all the menus. This was how I learnt. Constant exposure to code and seeing the results of certain changes in the WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) section.Frontpage is also really bad at writing code. This is a beneficial flaw because it helps you learn HTML. This is because:1. You feel compelled to fix really obvious errors which draws you in to the coding side of things2. You feel as if you can do a better job than the program is doing and gives you the confidence and motivation to attempt to write some sections of your own.I'm quite proficient at HTML now and have moved on to using Dreamweaver, but only on coding view. It is an excellent program that really keeps everything organised. As I said, if you can get your hands on a copy, do!Good Luck
  4. I am trying to install an excellent mailing list program called poMMo - written in PHP.I keep getting the below message and am not sure how to fix it.Connected to database server but could not select database: "jeldi_pommo".jeldi_pommo is the name of my database. It works. I've checked in phpMyAdmin through cPanel. It says it's connected to the MySQL server, so it cant be user/pass issues. If anyone has any ideas, they would be much appreciated.I'm genuinely stumped!
  5. Anyone living in Sydney should check out Farron Research!!!They pay something like $70-$140 per in-person survey and only go for 1-2 hours!!!They don't tend to call very often - but that might depend on the questions you give when you sign up.Give them a go. Much better than all this web survey nonsense of a few dollars for huge chunks of your time. And there isn't the chance your browser will freeze or your computer will crash to wipe out your hard work!!!I'm going to stop now because this is sounding like an ad . I just thought I'd share.
  6. I am a little annoyed by this initial posting requirement!I, like many people I'm sure have been searching and trying out various free web hosts to see if they will run certain scripts and have functioning features that are required for an intended purpose.I have tested about a dozen that seem to meet all of my requirements, only to find out after joining/testing that they don't!I like the posting concept of this site and think it is a brilliant idea, but should only be implemented once the user has had a chance to test the service - maybe a day or two. After that, if the user wants to keep the account, then the have to meet their posting requirements or they will lose their account - which will have the effect of keeping inative accounts to a minimum!Just my two cents.
  7. I need to vent about the frustration in trying to find a free web host that meets my requirements.I'm trying to setup a website with a mailing list and am finding it impossible to find a host who will accommodate this.I like the sound of this site, but because I have to post a whole lot before I can even sign up - I have to wait before I can even test if I can set up a reliable mailing list here. I've found a really good mailing list program written in PHP called poMMo - but it requires recent versions of PHP and mySQL as well as sendmail or the PHP Mail function and has to have write permissions on the server. I can run it locally, but finding a host it will run on is proving extremely difficult!!!The other issue is POP3 mail. Why do so few free hosts offer mail? I understand with the problem above - they need to protect themselves against the consequences of spam being sent from their servers, but I don't understand why it's so difficult to get a someone@domain.com email address setup.I have my own domain name and want my site to look professional, I don't wan't to put out some freemail address!
  8. On the topic of upgrades.....It states on the home page that php and mysql are both version 4.That's quite ancient! Is this correct? If so, could there be an upgrade of these in the next system upgrade? Many scripts won't run on those versions as they utilize the improvements made in the newer builds. They're also both easy to install and FREE!!!
