  1. I belive that these hard drives use some sort of "on-the-fly" encryption to decrypt data as it is requested by the computer when the proper fingerprint in presented. The fingerprint is likely stored in some sort of EPROM chip or the like.
Do you, by any chance, have a link to a retail page for these hard drives?

Back on topic, I'd only support the fingerprint-credit-card idea if the data about what you bought was kept for only a couple months and specificly off-limits to the government.

The link for a fingerprint hard drive (just did a google search) is here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. It's made by LaCie industries and is $200. This one seems to be the leading competitor, because a couple of links on google also sold this one.

  2. Google is quickly working its way up the list of biggest companies. I think it could get bigger than Microsoft. In 2005, it was ranked number 904 on Forbes Global 2000 in 2005, and only one year later, it jumped to spot 439 in 2006. Microsoft, on the other hand, was in spot number 47 in 2005 and dropped to 55 in 2006. Not significant, but maybe overshadowing something to come?

On the other hand, people can't use google without a computer. And where are they going to get that computer? From Microsoft. And Microsoft also has a huge amount of programs under its belt. It's a tough call. :)

  3. Lately I've gone to sites that have things scroll across the screen, and the only way to make them go away is by clicking a miniscule X in the corner, and if you click anywhere else it takes you to their site. Drives me nuts. Also bad are the rollover ones, when you roll the cursor over them, they get bigger. ARGH! :) I wish the internet could just be clean and nice!

  4. Gmail has been working great for me. I like how it doesn't delete things and everything is saved for me to access from anywhere. I wish there was some way Outlook or Outlook Express could do that, it's a pain having to be on the right computer to get mail.

  5. It's really scary how easy it is to find someone nowadays. Even if you know a number or person's name, you can trace it back and get a satellite picture with Google Earth. I'm a bit intimidated by it. If you search a person's name, their address and phone number will come up, as well as a link to send flowers to them. Freaky.

  6. You're right, the font is really hard on the eyes. I think it's just the thinness and longness (words?) of it. Try http://www.dafont.com/de/. They have a lot great fonts ranging from really simple to crazy. The purple color in the navigation is also difficult to see. Maybe try a darker shade or a different color altogether. For the poll and menu, try http://bravenet.com/. They have a mini tools section, in which you can make a bunch of different menus (including ones that fade into the side of the screen and don't take up room) and menus with submenus.

Hope this helps, the site looks like it has potential! :)

  7. did anyone see this movie? it was pretty good, but i think the idea of a universe-controlling remote is really sci-fi ish and probably not possible. :)

    Notice from Avalon:
This is clearly not a topic about technology, it is about a movie. Please ensure you post in the correct forum. Moved to movie section. Also your topic title and description needs to give readers an idea what the post is about. Warning added.
