  1. The way to post a link to another website changed. As far as I figured out one way to post a link is to past the link in the text. The forum changes the characters of the web address into a link. Another way to create a link is to use the chain icon on top of the post window. When the mouse pointer clicks on the chain icon a new window opens. It is possible to past the copied web address of a website in the link window that is called: URL. The link shows in the post in the form of the web address or as a shortened version of the webaddress. If you like to show the full web address to a website too it seems necessary to post the web address in the text. The web address doesn't change to a link when spaces are put between the letters of the first part of the web address. Here is an example.

The first link has been created by using the chain icon.

    https://support.xisto.com/

The second link is created without the chain icon.

    https://support.xisto.com/

This website address has been posted by putting spaces between the first parts of the web address.

     support.xisto.com/

It is possible to create a link and to use a random word like 'support'  to indicate the part of the post to click on. This is done by high lighting a word and to click on the chain icon while the word that is meant to function as a link is high lighted.

Here is an example of a word, that contains a link.

    support

  2. This post explains the reason for the choice of the former part of the forum this topic was started in originally. The description of that part of the forum is:

    Do you feel cheated?

Do you feel that a certain brand or product that you bought doesn't live up to its promise? Do you feel confused deciding which brand to buy? Do you feel the need for someone who could guide you, listen to your complaints, suggest new ways to deal with your day-to-day
consideration and related problems, and fight on your behalf? This is the such forum for you.

The description explains a little bit the feeling that grows by the lack of mycents in spite of sending in a few post on the forum. Feeling being cheated by the mycents system is a little bit too much, I suppose. Disappointment as a description of the feeling comes closer to the feeling this forum brings during the time the issue with the mycents system exists. The feeling of being cheated by the mycents system was probably not recognizable as the main reason for the selection of the former forum part.

The part of the forum this topic is in now is a non post count forum part, by the way. The next description of this part of the forum shows the no post counts character of this part of the forum.

  3. In Windows 7 the first item of the menu is:

    View.

Putting the mouse pointer on this word opens the next menu.

This next menu contains the item Yordan mentions.

    This item is called:

    Auto arrange icons.

You can make sure this item doesn't have a huge V in front of the words.

Could you please submit a ticket to Xisto - Support? They will find the problem and fix it.

    Dear mr Yordan,

Thank your for the kind and helpfull suggestion.
A ticket has been sent immediately after posting the first post of this topic.
And in the mean time an answer has arrived. The answer is:

    Dear Fila,

Thank you for writing to us.

We are migrating our forum from Xisto/Xisto & Xisto --- to ---> forums.xisto.com
This entire operation is not an easy task and meanwhile - the points system is disabled.

Once the Migration is fully complete,
The point system will be active again after 1 to 2 weeks.

    Regards, [a name]

The mycents system didn't work since the start of the creation of this account. And the mycents system didn't work for this account before the move of the forum. So it seems there is something else wrong. This is suggested to the help desk staff in a reply ticket.

Maybe the temporary hold of the mycents system will make the research to find a solution of this problem a bit more complicated.

  5. MYCENTS

This forum has a lot of advantages. One of the advantages is the option to earn digital points. These digital points can be used to obtain web services.

Part of this systems is, that the website awards posts with these digital points. The digital points are probably called mycents.

It is strange, that this account doesn't receive any mycents. Since this account is active several posts are entered in the forum. It is surprising, that no mycents are visible anywhere.

Not earning any mycents is considered like a bit of a problem.

It might be possible to solve this problem.

As far as known one of the necessary requirements is the use of the same email address for the forum and the support website of https://support.xisto.com/ .

It seems, that the technical obligation is to create an account in the forum with an email address. The next step is to create another account in the support website of xisto. Both steps are taken. And some posts are made. And still the mycents don't appear.

  7. The Greatness of Xisto

    Advantages of Xisto

This post contains some thoughts about this forum.

If the way the forum works is understood correctly the following statements can be seen to describe the method of the forum. This description matches probably with the actual way Xisto handles its affairs.

Xisto provides the possibility to obtain hosting and a domain name for posting messages on a forum. A forum is a website where people can like put messages with information on. Leaving messages on the forum gives a sort of virtual money. This kind of electronical money is called credits. After posting a lot of messages and after earning a lot of virtual money it might be possible enough credits are got to e able to obtain a hosting package and a domain name. In a way the services obtained by posting are free. It is possible to call the services a kind of free because when enough credits are harvested it is not necessary to pay money to obtain the services.

The internet services are provided by a professional internet company. The name of the company is Xisto Corporation. The professionality of the webhost offers some advantages.

This lead proposes a theorem. The theory of this post is, that using Xisto has some advantages. This theory rests on some assumption. These assumptions are:

The service of Xisto and Xisto can be compared to the service offered by free webhosts. And free webhosts have a lot of disadvantages. And Xisto has a lot of advantages. This means using the service of Xisto can be considered to have more advantages than a free webhost.

The first advantage of Xisto and Xisto is probably the reliabiltiy. A lot of free webhosts disappear. And the service of a free webhost can suddenly be stopped.

The second advantage of Xisto and Xisto is the service. The forum offers a possibility to get support. Sometimes a moderator of the forum can give some help too. And the service department of Xisto is pretty professional and helpfull.

This means that besides being free apart from spending time and attention to the forum Xisto offers a service that is in a way attractive.

  8. (....)

Please also feel tree to add a comment to the old posts, mentionning the current topic :D

Posting this information in the linked lead is the first impulse. The age of the line offers doubt. Opaque started the topic four years ago. And yesterday the last post in the linked topic was exactly three years old. Bumping in an old thread is not the most appreciated act to do.

A second consideration that prevents from posting the addition about the new nameservers is the state of the topic. The topic is closed for some unknown reason. So even when the wish to accept the invitation and the challenge to link to this information in the old topic exists the locked state of the old topic prevents from obeying the incitement to add the information with the current nameservers to the old thread.

  9. The nameservers of xisto

Two posts in the forum give outdated information about the nameservers of xisto.

    The nameservers of xisto are:

    Nameserver 1: dns1.xisto.com

    Nameserver 2: dns2.xisto.com

The nameservers can be found in the application form for a domain name.

The link to the website with the window to fill in a domain name is:

    https://support.xisto.com/

When an unused domain name is filled in, a test window has been filled with the required characters and the button to research the availability has been clicked a second page appears.

The button to research the availability is called:

    'Check Availability'

In the second page the button: 'Order Now' can be clicked.

    This opens a third page.

This third page contains the information of the nameservers of Xisto.

This post is a correction of two posts in this topic:

  10. Computer discussion

This topic is about sharing and discussing personal opinions and thoughts about the forum of http://forums.xisto.com/.

And this topic specifies the thoughts about the attraction of http://forums.xisto.com/index.php.

    1. Hardware

One of the advantages of Xisto is probably the subject of discussion. If the opinion of yordan is understood correctly the main focus of Xisto is towards computer technology, hardware and software and internet related topics. Some people like to discuss these topics online. News, reviews and opinions about new hardware can be interesting for them.

    2. Community

An aspect of Xisto that can be seen as like to be attractive to people is the communication with other persons. This can build a bond. After reading some posts of somebody it is possible to get some information about the way of thinking of a person and the opinions of the poster. These insights can be interesting.

    3. Discussion

It is possible to react to a post of a member of the forum. This leads to some interaction between people through the internet. It can be interesting to get some attention online. And it can be interesting to read the opinion of other people.

    4. Common interest

Since the forum is about computers and internet the members are probably interested in these subjects. This means that people who share the same interest can meet online on the forum.

    5. Information

When members post facts, opinions and thoughts about technical topics the content in the posts can deliver new information for other members. Some people like to stay informed about hardware, software and the internet. The forum can act like a source of information that isn't found easily somewhere else.

    6. Internationality

The forum has members from different countries in the world. The forum can be a place to discover the differences and the similarities between people from around the world.

    7. Hosting

The company that is the owner of Xisto provides hosting. If enough credits are earned hosting can be obtained without the need to pay money for it.

    8. Domains

The internet company that owns the forum provides domain names too for credits. So with a total of around $ 20.00 of credits a domain name can be ordered for free.

    9. More

It seems possible to think about some other advantages of the forum. The benefits of this forum mentioned above are sufficient to get an idea about an opinion about the attraction of the forum.

    Summary

yordan posted a reaction to a topic about the current state of the appeal of the discussion about technical issues of computers and the internet and the role of the forum of Xisto in this global conversation. The post of yordan inspired to produce some thoughts about the development of computers. The post of yordan can be found in the topic called:

The post of yordan contains the next content:

Maybe an additional reason, is the fact that we want to keep a high technical level in the topics posted here.

For instance, in standard working conditions, your topic would not be accepted here, because it's in the "computer talk" forum and you are not talking about computers, so you are off-topic.

    Reaction

The above post in another thread causes the urge to post an opinion about the direction the computer science and computer user experience is heading. This subject might be on topic for this subforum.

    Opinion

This topic contains a personal opinion about the development of computers in the last fifteen years.

Lately some opinions can be seen on the internet stating that the development of computers has come to an end. In a way there are some signs that support these opinions. Recently not very new inventions about computers are published. The main changes are changes of existing technology. Processors are a bit more powerfull. A new style of letting a part of the processor take care of the video handling has been seen. The production of heat has been dealt with.

The biggest changes can be seen with tablets. A tablet is a small computer. The development of smart phones has turnt mobile phones into small portable computers too.

The attention to tablets and smart phones and the spending of money to these devices have produced a smaller attention and smaller sale figures of desk top computers. Contrary to the smaller interest of desk top computers have the sales of laptops increased the last decade.

Another aspect that goes along with the slow development of computers is the stagnation of the development of the operating system. Windows hasn't shown much improvements since Windows XP. The operating program Windows XP provides about all the activities computers are used for lately. Windows Vista has an improved view, which didn't add much to the user experience. The main advantage of Windows 7 is the higher speed of the operating program. And Windows 8 provides the use of a touch screen. But a touch screen for a laptop computer is pretty expensive. And the advantage of the use of a touch screen with a laptop computer is questionable. This means that since Windows XP the operating system of a computer didn't show any hug improvement.

The lack of technical improvement and the stagnation of the development of the operating program result in a general decrease of the development of the computer.

  12. Ipads and smart phones

Maybe an additional reason, is the fact that we want to keep a high technical level in the topics posted here.

For instance, in standard working conditions, your topic would not be accepted here, because it's in the "computer talk" forum and you are not talking about computers, so you are off-topic.

The lovely Moderator Mr. Yordan adds the wish to maintain a high technical level in the forum as a reason of the smaller amount of posts and posters, if this post is correctly understood. This contribution is a valuable addition to the discussion. The subject of the post of dear Moderator Mr. Yordan is valuable, because the post adds an insight to the discussion, that the other posts lack. The over all  topic of the forum consists of the technical discussion about computers and the internet, if the goal of the forum is understood correctly. This means, that the discussion about the technical aspects of computers and the internet is the main topic of this forum. And this means, that the subject of the forum can be seen as one of the main attraction for posters and visitors.

The general topic of the technical aspects of computer technology and other internet related subjects in it self can be considered to be interesting for a lot of people. The reason of this statement is the popularity of technical websites and websites with a forum about technical aspects of computers and about computer technology and internet related topics. The popularity of other websites with the same subject shows, that people are interested in technical discussion and information. Looking at the popularity of other computer and internet related websites makes one consider that it seems that people like to read information about new products, reviews, user reviews and technical explanations and to interact with other users about these aspects.

Big differences with other websites and the forum of Xisto are the modern aspects. Other websites give attention to the latest developments of computer technology and communication too. Some examples are tablets, mobile phones, smart phones and mobile internet. These aspects seem to lack a bit in the forum of Xisto at the moment.

  13. Version

It seems a 32-bits version of Ubuntu Server is available on the internet.

A picture with a capture of the computer screen with the website of Ubuntu shows the option to download a 32-bits version of Ubuntu Server using a torrent download way.

    Posted Image

The link to this webpage of the website of Ubuntu is:

    http:// https://www.ubuntu.com/download/alternative-downloads

    https://www.ubuntu.com/download/alternative-downloads.

The words: '64-bits only' on the download page of Ubuntu have probably to do with the link, that opens the download of the 64-bits version only.

    Easiness

Dear Moderator yordan explains in his post, that the forum contains some topics with tutorials explaining the installation of Linux.

The only threads about the installation of Linux found at this moment are threads, in which the poster assumes Linux is already installed on the computer of the reader. The installation of Linux is not explained in these tutorial topic.

The point of this topic is to show, how amazingly simpel it is to create a home server nowadays. And the second goal of this topic is to explain the way to install a home server from the start and from scratch. The third idea behind this topic is to demonstrate the pleasure a self controlled home server delivers. For these reasons this topic seems to have some value in itself.

The found topics about the installation of a Linux Server are the following topics:

This quote shows the assumption of the Original Poster:

    Assumptions:
    a. You have a Linux Server up and running with DHCP pre-installed on it. This will be referred to as your "DHCP Server" from now on.
    b. You have another Windows 2000/XP workstation running and connected to the Linux Server. This is required to test if the DHCP is being able to allot the IP addresses properly. This will be referred to as your Client Host or DHCP Client from now on.
    c. You have only ONE network card (NIC) attached to the Linux Server and it's name according to Linux Device List is eth0. If you are unsure about what your NIC is referred to as, type the following in a linux console:
    =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
    shell> ifconfig
    =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

The links and the quote might show, that the tutorials about the installation of a Linux server are complicated compared to the simple way of the installation of Ubuntu Server offered by Ubuntu in 2014.

Links to other topics with tutorials and information about the installation of an Ubuntu Server will probably appreciated.

  14. Section

Lovely Moderator Yordan informs the forum visitors, that this topic has been placed in the wrong part of the forum. Probably the description of this part of the forum is the cause of a misunderstanding. The description of this part of the forum says:

    Computer Talk
Just put it your computer related discussion here. It may be regarding software, hardware or anything!

A picture of a screen capture of this part of the forum shows this description:

    Posted Image

A more close look at this description shows this sentence more clearly.

The description of this subforum states:

    Posted Image

It seems some confusion rose because the idea behind the choice of this subforum to start the topic about the traffic and the amount of visitors and posts is that the forum is reached by a computer.

Nevertheless there might be a better subforum to continue with the thoughts about the current state of the forum, the reasons of the small amount of posts in recent times and the options to deal with the current situation.

Maybe a wish to change this topic to another more suited subforum exists. And maybe this line of posts will be continued in the future. This means, that a suggestion about a better subforum to continue this row of posts will probably be appreciated.

  15. 32 bit version and 64 bit version

    Dear Mr. Yordan,

Thank you very much for your friendly and smart reply. Your kind comment is very helpfull.

The information on the linked website is shown in the screen captured picture in this post. This information and your post make it clear that the available versions of Ubuntu Server need a little bit of further research. Making a statement based on the information found on one website might not be the best way to collect information to post in the forum of Xisto.

    The linked website states:

    64-bit only.

This phrase is visible in this picture.

It is indeed very doubtfull that this information is correct.

    Friendly greetings from fila.

  16. Summary

The information in the posts above this post can be summarised by the statement, that a person posts in the forum of Xisto because of the attraction of the posting. In other words the benefits of posting cause the willingness to post in here.

Because the amount of new posts has decreased in a huge way lately it seems acceptable to state, that the attraction to post in here has diminished. It is possible to discuss some of the advantages to post in here. It is as well possible to discuss the possible lack of attractiviy to post in here and the eventual reasons why the attractivy to post in here got smaller.

One of the goals to start this discussion and one of the reasons to list this information is an attempt to try to obtain some insight in some of the reasons that might have caused the current state of this forum.

  17. Reasons to post

The goal of this topic is to discuss the possible reasons that might have caused the very small amount of new posts in Xisto lately. This post contains the suggestion to think about several reasons, that might have caused the lack of inspiration and willingness to post in this forum.

This post contains the following way of reasoning. First several reasons to post are summed up. The idea behind posting this list is that the lack of posts does probably depend on the lack of these reasons to post in here.

It is possible to think of several reasons to post. Here is a list of several reasons a person would like to post here.

    1. An economic reason

Posting provides a digital number. This number increases by more posts. If the number is high enough a webhost provides the option to obtain hosting and a domain name. If the number stays high enough the digital number makes it possible to keep a website up and running and to keep the domain name in use.

    2.  Fun

Maybe the economic reason on itself is not attractive enough. There are more options to gain the means to get hosting and to buy a domain name. An important reason to post in here is the pleasure the posting, to see the post in the forum and to read the reactions, if they appear.

    3. Social reasons

A forum is a website to communicate and to interact with other persons. This forum gives the opportunity to communicate with other individuals.

    4. Information

The content of the topics and posts give the opportunity to obtain information.

    5. Help

It is possible to start  topic and to post about an issue somebody might have. And it is possible to ask for help to solve the issue and to ask for possible solutions, that might solve the problem. In this way the forum acts in a way like a digital help desk.

    6. Tutorial

This forum provides a small amount of tutorials. A tutorial can be seen as a sort of information about how to handle a situation.

    7. Knowledge base

It is possible to post a tutorial about a way to use a program and a device. The content of the topic can act like a reminder and a tutorial for the original poster about the way to use the program and the device.

    8. Link

Topics and posts can provice links to other websites with usefull content, like information, pictures and computer programs.

    9. Online reminder

Topics and posts can be started and posted with links so the poster knows where to find the link to a website.

    10. Free

  18. The installation of a home server

A home server is the name of a computer. This computer is connected with the internet. The home server makes websites available for the internet.

Nowadays it is in a way very easy to install a home server.

Ubuntu offers a server operating program. Most of the installation steps make their own choices. There are just two steps where the installation process asks for a decision. The second step the installation program asks about what kind of server you want to install. You need to make a decision about this step and 1 other step. All other steps are made by the installation program or the option to choose is pretty much obvious.

The operating program for the server can be found here:

    https://www.ubuntu.com/download/server

This operating program is available in 64-bit only.
