Need Help To Recognize My Hd Via Sata Cable

Hi there,Well my computer recently packed up. I purchased a new one, and am trying to pull through the files from the old hard drive via SATA cable. I got everything set up ok, and when I plug it all in my computer identify that the hard drive is there, it just doesn't let me access it. I can't find any support on this on the internet, any suggestions?
