  1. This tutorial is for all those people who are still hesitant to use torrents anaware of the the fact that how it can dramatically improve their data sharing experience over the web. Most of us using the Broadband connections are in a usual habit of sharing & downloading stuff from the internet. The stuff I am talking about ranges from Movies, Games, Videos, Songs, Software, Pictures, and EBooks etc. Among all these, those with the big file sizes are a big heck to download due to the low speeds we get from the server containing the file. It is because of a large number of users downloading the same file at the same instant. This led to the idea of Peer2Peer network sharing which literally means sharing with & through friends. BitTorrent is one of a lot of such technologies letting us to share stuff more easily & speedily.
Here I will tell you how to use BitTtorrent to make your work real easy without going deep inside how it works. For a brief knowledge, you may think it as a network where there is a main server containing the file to be shared. Suppose there are ten people who want to download this file at the same time, the server will break the file into a large number of small chunks & send different parts to all the users & the users will share remaining parts from each other. Here a network is formed where each one is downloading the stuff & at the same time uploading it to other users resulting in awesome download speed. This way a large number of users downloading same file increase speed rather than slowing it down. This is what we called BitTorrent protocol. This complete process is tracked by tracker servers which take care of all this sharing stuff.
A torrent is a very small file with the suffix .torrent. It contains all the information about the download like the names of files, sizes, download server address & other information. We can start a download by the torrent file using a BitTorrent Client.
This was a brief intro about BitTorrent Protocol & Torrent files. I know its not enough but you donât need to know more if you are a casual downloader who just need your work done.
For all other enthusiast, just Google it. You will find all you want to know about it. Or you may check out following two links:
    ¡ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
Now I will tell you how to download stuff using BitTorrent.
First of all you need to have a BitTorrent Client. It is a software which is installed on your desktop. There are a lot of them but my favorite & most popular one is uTorrent (for Windows). However if you are a Mac or Linux user, you can try Transmission (for Mac) & KTorrent (for LINUX).
The next step is to search for a torrent. There are a lot of sites where you can search & find any torrent. A few of them are Isohunt, TorrentBox, Mininova etc. There are many more out there.
Now search for your file & download the torrent. It will be of a few Kilo Bytes in size.
Now just go to the location on your hard drive where you downloaded the torrent file & double click it. It will open up with the Torrent Client (like uTorrent) you installed on your PC in the previous step.
Just set the location where you want to store the downloaded file & click ok. The downloading will start. Thatâs it. Now you just have to wait your download to be completed in much less time than the conventional one to many download method.
Different Torrent clients provide almost all the features provided by common Download Managers like scheduling etc. You may explore the options to find them.
This was a very small & easy description of how to download a file using Torrent. Hope it helps. For any query, feel free to contact me anytime.

  2. Hi friends!!!

This is my first post to this forum.

The post I am going to make here is what I posted on my technical blog. Its totally original & mine (hope it follows the rules & earn me some MyCents). This post is originally posted by me on http://www.abhineetlabs.co.cc/ & now I am sharing it on Xisto forum. Hope you find it useful.

I will share all my technical blog posts here. But, if personal technology blog posts are not allowed here, please do tell me.

So, I was talking about how to get instant mail alerts on mobile phone for free. Here it goes...

All of us need to check our mails on the go.

It is easy for those who have push mail enabled phones & can afford push mail services or those who have got 24 hour connected gprs which checks the mail at a regular interval of time.

However both of the above options are not feasible for those who cannot afford much or if someone does not have a gprs enabled phone.

Even if you can afford 24 hour gprs on, the battery drains much faster.

It means push mail is the best option. But what if one is not a business person & want this service for own interest. Then there is no need to buy a Blackberry & afford huge bills for push mails.

There is a way to get free alerts on your phone with sender & subject name mentioned in the sms, whenever you get a new email.

This is not an alternative to push mail but it keeps you informed whenever you get a new mail, with information of the sender & the subject.

Now we are going to set up our free sms mail alerts.

First of all, we need to look for a free online sms sending service which also provides email feature. This type of service will surely provide sms alerts for the mails for free.

Way2sms is such a service providing free sms alerts for the new incoming mail.

    Lets start it all: -

STEP 1: Just log on to http://site24.way2sms.com/ & register for an account. May be you have one.

STEP 2: Then log in to your account. You will encounter a lot of advertisements as the site is heavily loaded with them. Just ignore them (to get something for free, it’s not a big amount).

STEP 3: Now look at the top right pane of the dashboard. Click on Mail.

STEP 4: In the mail section, on the left sidebar, click on Mail alerts. Here you can activate the mail alerts so that whenever a mail reaches your inbox, you will instantly get a sms.

In way2sms, when you activate mail alerts, they are activated for a period of 14 days, after which you have to activate it again. I dont think its a big issue because only two times a month, you need to do this. Also, even if you go for a vacation, 14 days is a long time for the need to again activate the mail alerts.

Now, let you have an email account yourname@somemail.com. You want to get the mail alerts for this mail address. Not to worry. Just forward your mails to the way2sms mail account you just created & you are done. Each time you get an email in your yourname@somemail.com account, it gets forwarded to your way2sms account & you get an sms alert with the senders name & subject.

When we forward mails from one account to other, the senders name is retained in the mail, i.e. the mail reaching your way2sms account will not have yourname@somemail.com as sender, but the original sender.

In Gmail, Yahoo & others, you may find the Mail Forwarding option in the settings.

Just go to settings, forward all your mails to your way2sms mail account & you are done. Please check the address carefully if you don’t want your mails forwarded to a wrong mail address.

So, not to feel technologically backward while you are between Blackberry holders, now you have your own Desi Blackberry, even in a simple black n white mobile phone. This makes you surely a geek.

Note: This service is currently for Indian subscribers as way2sms supports only Indian Mobile Networks at the moment. However if you are from some other country, you may have your country specific counterpart of way2sms.

  3. Well! Being new to this forum, I must tell you what made me to be here. Its my damn interest in Web Designing. Though I am not much experienced in this field yet, I can give a few resources who are starting of late.

First of all, to design a website, you have to know how to build a template. For it, you need to know Photoshop or some software like that. But as a fact, in quality features, nothing comes close to Photoshop for designing.

A few of the websites where you must start are (I am assuming that you know basic functions of photoshop).

    :lol:http://www.myinkblog.com/

This weblog is written by Andrew Houle, a freelancer (as he claims), but the tutorials for design are awesome. Even there are some tutorials for css template making also. Go ahead, this website is a must bookmark for designers.

    :lol:http://www.devianart.com/

This website is not a tutorial hub, rather its a image gallery for graphic designers where they can host their creation. There are thousands of vector arts hosted here which can be used in your designs, but following theor guidelines of use.

    :ohttp://www.entheosweb.com/photoshop/

This is another website containing basic photoshop tutorials ranging from slicing layers to adding effect to images.

    :ohttp://webdesignerwall.com/

A site where designer shares his views, tutorials & web design trends with the readers.

I hope these links will help you a lot, whether you are a novice or an advanced designer.

Please do tell me if you like these so that I can share more with you.

Also do suggest more if you know some.
