  1. We just moved to Colorado and am considering buying my wife a Cannon Rebel. Aside from my Cannon Powershot I have very little experience with digital photography. How closely do these types of cameras compare to 35mm? Will a 35mm lenses work on the Rebel or do they request special ones? Thanks to all.
  2. I love Rapidshare. The best configuration I can recommend is becoming a Premium user and using Flashget for downloads. Have never had a problem with their service and it is cheap.
  3. After years of debating I finally broke down and bought an IMac about six months ago and am kicking myself every day for not having made the decision earlier. Everything I have plugged into this thing has been recognized no matter how obscure...no drivers no downloads. To date this thing has never crashed and I'm a power user including video and music applications. The extra money pays for itself in far fewer headaches. I have over 10 machines in my house (each of my 3 kids has one, wife has a laptop, I have two PCs + 1 laptop, my IMac, etc) and can tell you I am ready to throw each of the PCs out of a window. For anyone considering the switch...make it. Don't bother with the Parallels just pull the plug completely and become a Mac user.
  4. Hello:I am new to JAVA and server-side applications and have a dumb question. I have set up Tomcat on my machine and created a JSP program to query an Access database using a DSN-Less connection. If I publish the page to a webserver and include the .MDB file will it work? I'm not sure exactly what needs to be packaged with my Java application to make it work. Since I don't have a remote server that supports .jsp I cannot really test it. I'm assuming that JDBC driver would be bundled with my site but not sure. Thanks!
  5. I have been a COBOL programmer for over 13 years and can say that there is still a need for it especially in any application that processes huge volumes of data. In my case I work on a billing application that processes millions of customers with hundreds of millions of charges per month. There is simply no other programming language that can support that volume. There as an effort some time ago to rewrite some of the applications in the billing stream in C++. The COBOL jobs finished in about 3 hours the C++ version was still running two days later. Although there is less need to support mainframe applications there are still us dinosaur programmers out there loving what they do. I am actually doing some work with stored procedures and JAVA now which I am enjoying.Regarding Mircofocus: Microfocus is similar to MVS COBOL except that it does not run on an MVS Platform. It ties more into PC computing. If you search the web I believe there is a Microfocus demo, at least there was when I was going to school. My understanding is that there is a pretty big difference between MF Cobol and MVS Cobol probably similiar to that between IBMs an MACs.
  6. I have been using Adobe Photoshop for a while now but have yet to fully unlock all of its potential. I used Corel Draw on a PC for a while but it always seemed to crash. Now that I'm on a Mac I using Photoshop without problem.
