  1. Just edit the explorer.exe in memory whenever it's paged in ^_^
Then you can change the button text without worrying about breaking your windoze box.

But then it will be only for that session, you will need to change the start button everytime you restart or log on your PC.
This tutorial is for changing the start permanently.

  2. CHANGE START BUTTON TEXT

Changing the Start button requires the use of a binary file editor (or hex editor) to alter a critical Windows system file. If you kill this file, bad things can happen to your system.

Stop here in you don't know about backups and registry editing. Also please take out life insurance before you start ;) .

This method has been successfully tested on Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000 and XP and therefore should be quite safe. Obviously, I do not accept any responsibility for system problems or data loss.

Now with that being said, lets get to changing your start button. First of all you will need a binary file editor. The best one i have seen and I have used for years is Resource Hacker avalable for free here:

    http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/
now that you have this tool lets get to work

    Editing Explorer.exe File

Now in order to make the changes we need we need to open the "explorer.exe" file typically found in c:\windows\

Make a backup copy of "explorer.exe" to "explorer_backup.exe". If anything goes wrong, you'll always be able to restore your backup and get your system back to the way it was before the hack.

Open the resource hacker and select the "explorer.exe" file.

Once you have opened explorer in Resource Hacker you will notice a menu appears on the left side of the program with a lot of different expandable menus columns. The category we are going to be using is String Table.

    - Double-click String Table which will show several numbers

    - Double-click String 37 (if windows XP, 38 for another version) to expand it

    - (If you are using the Classic Layout rather than the XP Layout, use number 38 instead.)

    - Click 1033

    - Double-click the start text in the right column.

    - The text start should be highlighted and the surrounding quotes should not.

    - Now type the new text you want in your start button. It can not be more than 10 characters in length and must continued to be surrounded by those quotes.

    - Once you edit the text, the Compile Script button will become enabled. Click the Compile Script button

    - Click File -> Save As and save your new file as explorer1.exe in the windows directory.

    Editing Registry

Now we need to tell the OS to use our new edited explorer file.

    1. Click Start -> Run -> type in regedit and ENTER

(If your Regedit is disabled leave a comment on this recipe and i will teach you how to enable it.)

    2. Navigate to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\ Winlogon

    3. Double click on the registry entry named Shell and change the Value Data from "explorer.exe" to"explorer1.exe"

    4. Click OK to close the registry editor

    5. Log off user and log back in

    6. Enjoy your newly hacked Start button with your text in it ^_^

    7. Post a screenshot in the comments to show off you new hacked Start button! ;)

  3. The "SuperSpeed" USB Promotions Group was announced Tuesday at the Intel Developer Forum. The promotions group will get together with contributors over the next year to finalize a USB 3.0 spec that will, they hope, take care of our wired peripheral and syncing needs for another five years or more.
USB 3.0 is built upon, and is backwards-compatible with, the USB 2.0 "High Speed" spec. It would be generous to even call the specifications "early" at this stage, but the group still had lots of information about how USB 3.0 will work and what features it will provide. The spec should be finalized sometime in the middle of 2008, with initial devices available in '09, and broad deployment by 2010.

The main two goals of SuperSpeed USB are to provide a 10X boost in transfer rate (from 480-Mbits/s in USB 2.0 to 4.8 Gbits/s in USB 3.0), while dramatically lowering power consumption. One example of their speed goals is to transfer a 27GB HD movie to a portable device in 70 seconds. The same thing would take 15 minutes or more with HighSpeed USB (2.0). The SuperSpeed devices will use the same connectors and the same programming and device models as existing devices.

SuperSpeed USB (aka USB 3.0) still has a long way to go, but the development pace seems pretty rapid. The spec will probably be done, or nearly so, by the time Intel Development Forum rolls around next year, with initial device development underway. In two years' time, we might even have the first USB 3.0 devices on the market.

  7. As everyone here has said "It will be a little helpful to know about your card and configurations", so as I. And probably it might be due to an older video-card or it can be also due to the older-driver version of your current Graphic-card. The former problem can be solved by purchasing a new video-card and the latter can be easily solved without any costs involved by downloading the newer version of the driver from the driver's manufacturer's site. I'll also suggest that if you have low video memory and ample RAM try increasing the video-memory in the BIOS menu.Good Luck. :P

  8. I use Google mostly and prefer it over any other. I tried using others but i'm addicted to Google :P . Though i found a new Indian search recently "Guruji" , you can give it a try. Have a look at the following figures -

    Google (all) - above 74%

    Google.com - 51.53%

    Yahoo! Web Sites - 12.16%

    Google UK - 9.51%

    MSN - 4.34%

Google AdSense for Content - 3.51%

    Google Canada - 3.17%

    AOL - 2.06%

Above Figures are taken from Wikipedia

    Happy Googling :P

  9. I had got the same type of problem a few weeks before, but it is due to some virus. And this is what i did.1. Downloaded UBCD4 windows iso .2. Booted from the UBCD4win cd. There are lot of options available in the boot menu of UBCD. Choose "Boot from CD" option.3. Now it will ask for choosing the shell that is to be used. Leave it to default.4. First of all i used the file management utility to check if the hard-disk is detected. It is not detected, then proceed to the next step.5. There are lot of disk tools like MBRFix, MBRmagic, Testdisk and many others available in the CD.6. I used Testdisk to Analyze the Hard-disk and it found the partitions. Even if it will not get detected in File-management Utilities, it will be detected in Disk-tools by its name.7. Then use "Write" option, it will write the partition info to the disk.8. Now reboot and remove the CD. You should now be able to boot from your hard-disk. Best of Luck :P

  10. In my opinion, the best antivirus is Avast Antivirus. Because of the following features -

    Approx 4-5 MB RAM usage.

    Very low CPU utilization.

    User Friendly Interface.

    Very Effective in 99% cases.

Last but not the least it's "Free" for Home users.

At last its up to you which anti virus you prefer. <_<

  11. I think they raised it against rapidshare as rapidshare has 70-80% of the files in rar format and is very popular. But they have increased the file size to 150mb rather than 100mb. And rapid even don't have advanced features particular to a rar file. Therefore for hosting a rar file, "rarhost.com" is the best.

  12. Some other interesting facts, i came to know : * The Nichi Corporation, who holds the design patents to the Blu-ray's laser system, sits as an associate member of the HD DVD Promotion Group. * Even though Apple sits on the Blu-ray Board of Directors, its DVD Studio Pro software supports authoring HD DVD media. * Blu-ray, unlike HD DVD, requires a hard coating on its discs because it's 0.5m closer to the surface. The polymer coating it uses, called Durabis, was developed by TDK and is supposedly extremely resilient and fingerprint resistant. * The Java platform is mandatory on Blu-ray as it's the standard for menus/multimedia (i.e. all Blu-ray systems must support JVM) * Though Microsoft has not officially sided with either format, it has a number of long-standing IP cross-licensing deals with Toshiba. HD DVD systems will run Windows CE; the standard is currently the only next-gen optical standard with announced support in Longhorn, and an HD DVD version of the Xbox 360 is rumored for the future. * The first consumer Blu-ray device in the US market is expected to be the PlayStation 3.

  13. Thankx for the information friends. <_<

I got some info too, which i got from "cnet news"

Can one man and a mantra of "radical simplicity" change the world of Web development?

David Heinemeier Hansson, a 26-year-old Copenhagen native, has built a "framework" to help Web developers be more productive and has released the package of tools through an open-source project.

His software, Ruby on Rails, only out for a little more than a year, has started a buzz among the legions of developers and high-level executives that track the trend-driven world of software development.

    News.context

    What's new:

Ruby on Rails, a relatively new Web development framework, has become popular among programmers for its simplicity and productivity.

    Bottom line:

Although created by just one person, the software is having an impact and getting noticed by pioneering programmers eager to spot hot, new trends. Some analysts are recommending it for new Web applications.

Hansson's quest to build a practical and productive Web development framework demonstrates how a single person can shake up the status quo, even in a development world where a few companies dominate.

The trick, said Hansson, is to "slaughter the holy cows," the well-understood ideas of computer science that dictate how programmers work. In many cases, software vendors design products for difficult problems, an approach that leads to excess complexity, he said.

His goal with Ruby on Rails is not to create a sophisticated development framework that the engineers at Google or Amazon.com will flock to. Instead, he has focused on creating templates and designs that tackle the unglamorous problems, such as making database modifications, that the great majority of Web developers face every day.

"The major delusion I want to shatter is that you can successfully use the same types and tools for solving the biggest problems in the world and have a pleasant time applying that to solving the normal problems of the world," Hansson said.

Ruby on Rails is not used nearly as much as other Web tools such as PHP, Java or Microsoft tools. But it has caught the attention of some of the influential programmers who help popularize new products.

David Geary, who has authored books on Java and sits on the technical committee for the latest Java Web programming model, has found that Ruby on Rails is five to 10 times faster than comparable Java frameworks. Like Java did a decade ago, Ruby on Rails is getting developers excited by making them more productive, he said.

  14. I'll recommend u Rhinoceros, a good modeling software for a pure beginner. I have previously joined a class for animation

and they too started with Rhinoceros. It is based on nerve modeling as Maya rather than 3dmax which is based on Polygon Modeling. Now, it depends whether you are interested in modeling human like models or sharp boundary models.

Human like models are designed with nerve modeling based softwares and sharp boundary models are designed using polygon modeling based softwares.

  15. Hi freindz , I'm Vidit from India.I joined the forum to get a good host. Actually, i thought that the forum will be if no use to me or the forum will be just timepass. But, i'm a fool to think this. The forum rocks . It is great source of knowledge. I hope that i'll learn a lot here and make some good friends <_<
