  1. We got bored and decided to whack it on for some old multi player fun against cpu's but I can't get multi-player to work, either can't see the room, or you can (but only from one end when creating on either) but it won't properly connect to the game.
Right now I'm running Windows XP Home SP1 and he is running Windows 2000 Professional SP4 (I think).

Were hooked up through a Siemens Speedstream 4200 (from our ISP) for ADSL internet, it has both an Ethernet and a USB port, I use the Ethernet cable as it reaches longer into my room and my brother uses the USB cable port with the USB drivers.

We actually also have a SpeedTouch 530, but end up with the same results.
Now if I remember correctly, and set a static IP manually to both machine, it should work, however I attempted this and the net went bye-bye, which unfortunately won't always be practical.

I tried port forwarding, but that's not much good when I can't port forward to both machines (it won't let me) and port forwarding to the router itself doesn't seem to do any good either.

Oh and not sure if this is any use but normally my brothers machine is setup with 10.0.0.1 and mine with 10.0.0.2 (which AOE II recognises in the create a room portion of multi player) and sending files off across mIRC and such using these values is no problem at all.

Why couldn't AOE II just let me specify the IP to connect to ;).

Oh and I also tried the over the internet option so I could specify the IP (I used the auto assigned 10.0.0.2 from his machine, as his is 10.0.0.1), but that failed aswell, didn't even detect a room on either side).

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well ... I NEVER could play AOE II on multyplayer :/ ... Try checking cabbles , conection , firewall settings and try playing trough IP ( for example , you create the room , send the ip for your friend , he choses playing trough IP and voila! )... If you don't know your ip , check it at What is My ip

    ;)

  2. The unique, easy to use Ruby scripting software.
    Anyone use this?

    I use ^^

It's very good ;) ... I'm a bit famous on some RPG Maker Brazilian sites :P

I'm good with variables, switchs, common events... Basically ; i'm good just mapping and making engines :P

Actually , i'm trying to make a " slot game " with rpg maker ^^ ... And an online rpg game too ;)

The only problem i ever had with rpg maker is resources ... It's hard to find good resources ;)

If you know any good site with MANY resources for rpg maker xp , send me a pm ... Ok ? :P

  3. Can anyone suggest Free FTP client to upload directories and subdirectories with multiple files?Currently I use directory opus. I like it and it works great. But my trial period will be over soon.
    Thanks

I recomend using FileZilla ... It's EXTREMALLY good ... I never had any problem ; it's easy to use , quick and you can adjust almost EVERYTHING!

Everytime i go editing a site ; i use filezilla ... It's really very easy to use ...

    Try it ;)...
    You will like ;)...

  4. I got my Xisto account in hopes of making a multi-player, online, text-based game in real time. What I need help with is the programming side of things, a little advice really. I talk to the maker of a similar type game that I play, and he suggested I learn PHP with MySQL and ASP, and I cant really remember if he said anything else. I have been playing around a little with PHP and only dabbled with MySQL, but I know nothing of ASP except that it stands for Active Server Pages.
So basically, the advice I'm looking for is, what kinds of scripting/coding would people think I should use for this type of game? I plan on having a shoutbox somewhere, some kind of forum-like thing, it would have many menus to choose from with sub-catagories. There would be pictures involved also, and definitly it would need a registration/login page and some way to track users. There is more involved, but its late and I'm getting sleepy. With that info, what do people think? Maybe I'm asking to much, but thanks for any input.

Well... PHP with mySQL can do pratically ANYTHING ... If you use then you could make a game ;) ... But if you use Java , flash , ASP , JSP , CGI would help much too ;) ... Php is better just for * text * games ... You can add images too , but won't be very easy... I sugest to download some free php text-based game scripts on Hotscripts and learn a bit about php text-based game making ; or just edit a game script to make your game :P... Good Luck ;)
