  1. Is the Universe's expansion rate slowing down or speeding up? I have always been taught that it was slowing down, but I read something in the New York Times that it was found about a year ago that it was actually speeding up. Up until a year or two ago, it was thought that the Universe's expansion rate was decreasing, due to gravity pulling back on the material exploding form the Big Bang. However, more recently, scientists have been able to measure how fast the Universe was expanding, and the data indicate that it is actually speeding up. This measurement was made by looking at distant supernovae. If distant supernovae are different in brightness than nearby supernovae (e.g. if there is more dust dimming the light than we think) then the measurement could be wrong. However, most astronomers think that the measurements are strong.

  2. This doesn't alarm me too much. As time goes on, the government will increasingly put new restrictions on pollution as it has been since the industrial revolution. The EPA won't let something like this happen. Plus, I don't believe all of the Global Warming hype. We are part of a larger trend, and there is no way to pinpoint this on us.

I agree with you when you say government will put larger restrictions on pollution. But to control it is very difficult and alomost impossible. Once the sea life starts depleting there is no way you can increase it. It is something easy to damage and hard to recover. Look at the other extint specis and we know how humanity failed to preserv the natural resorces. Many birds, animals like tiger cheetah and snakes as well as plants are being extint because of human intervantion. there is protection to these in many countries but this is really not helping. I want to be hopeful about seafood but I cant be realistically.

  3. Windows XP Home SP1
    Celeron D 320 2.4ghz

    768mb combined Kingston ram (512mb and 256mb module(s)).

GF5500 with 256mb ram (fairly new)

    Onboard Audio (SoundMax).

Asus P4P800 (around about, I can't remember the id exactly).

and 80gb Western Digital drive (fairly new).

The motherboard reports the mobo temp as around 25-30 but cpu at 70-80 last time I checked (earlier today).

No spyware, no viruses, only applications installed that I need, file paging is setup for as optimal as it gets.

I think I might just overclock the processor and see how long it will run :).

Are you sure that your computer is is clean of spyware, junk, temperory internet files, adware etc? Also Check the cpu graph and RAM graph in task manager and see which processes are eating up more memory. Some times a corrupt program file can quietly run in the backround and eat up memory to slow your computer. As you said it was running quite well before I doubt its a hardware problem. It wont hurt testing your ram to see both modules are working. you can chek that in the Bios.
Another way to speed up this is to de fragment your hard drive if it is more than 75% full.

  4. I think Especially in consumer market the technology will not move forward if its harmful. The above mentioned research is being done in the usa and at reputed instutute like Massachusetts Institute of Technology.Offcourse we will have to wait until we are sure that it is not harmful before we use it. Instead of using acoustic vibrations, they are trying ot use the resonance of electromagnetic waves. Electromagnetic radiation includes radio waves, infrared and X-rays. which might be harmless range of frequencies.

  5. US researchers have outlined a relatively simple system that could deliver power to devices such as laptop computers or MP3 players without wires. The concept exploits century-old physics and could work over distances of many metres.
They are planning to use resonance to instagate power wirelessly to other devices. Resonance is a phenomenon that causes an object to vibrate when energy of a certain frequency is applied. The concept is to use resonance of electromagnetic waves.

If you bring another resonant object with the same frequncy close enough to these tails then it turns out that the energy can tunnel from one object to another

    said the researcher
Do you have anu thoughts on this ? this is definately a breakthrough concept. imagine all the devices in the room without wires to charge. wow!

  6. Whats is the difference between IE 7 and IE 6I saw the tabs in ie 7 which are diferent. Some icons are different. I dont know what is advantage of ie7.Can some one explain? Thanks

    Notice from pyost:
This is obviously not a tutorial. Be careful where you are posting new topics.

  7. I use to like Laptops because it is portable and easy to carry. Then my laptop went dead and I bought a desktop. I started liking desktop more because of it is upgradeable and cheap lives longer too. I still use it but then came the wireless networking and now I like laptop and desktop both. Desktop for easy upgrade and stuff while laptop for the mobility. If I am going to burger king or starbucks I can carry my laptop many places provide wireless connectivity and that’s why I like laptop. So after all it is important to know the end use before I can decide whether desktop is preferable or laptop. Thanksnote: laptop is a misnomer, you can call it notebook computer. all the notebeook makers reccommend not placing notebook computer on your lap because it gets too hot.

  8. During april 2006 Republican-controlled House Energy and Commerce subcommittee denied a proposal that would have levied extensive regulations on broadband providers and forcibly prevented them from offering higher-speed video services to partners or affiliates. By an 8-to-23 margin, the committee members rejected a Democratic-backed Net neutrality amendment to a current piece of telecommunications legislation. The amendment had attracted support from companies including Amazon.com, eBay, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo. According to them such a change to the legislation was very critical. Now after the mid term election with the Democrat controlled senate There is a possibility that net nutrality amendment will be accepted.Net nutrality is definately benificial for consumers and i think they should pass the amendment.

  9. I have heard about that. The companies will have to put alot of towers up to transmit all of the high-def signals. The cable for high-def television is already present, so this will probably not be a great reality for the next few years, except in major cities with high pupulation per square mile. I think this will be kind of like cell-phones. For the first little while, it was quite rare, but now that they have the towers in place, everyone has it. My guess is that everything in the future will be run by satellites transmitting to dishes on earth, and then the signal being rebroadcast to individual homes, kind of a mixture between current Satellite TV and the new Wireless HDTV.
If there is a big enough push/need/demand for this technology, I see no reason why we cannot have HDTV when we go camping, or in our cars as we go on trips. It will take awhile for it to catch on and for people to give up on regular cable.I give it about 3-5 years for it to be widely accepted, unless they get ALOT of backing from investors. This could be in conjunction with HD-Radio, and that is already in place.

    I say- SUCCESSFUL!!

I agree with you. As I think more about this i think they will be successful question would be how soon and how cheap. Preety soon they will be no cables at all. Also I dont know whether these signals would adversly affect human life. As they aslo talk abot cell phone signal.

  10. A hurricane-like storm, two-thirds the diameter of Earth, is raging at Saturn's south pole, new images from Nasa's Cassini space probe reveal. Measuring 5,000 miles (8,000km) across, the storm is the first hurricane ever detected on a planet other than Earth. Scientists say the storm has the eye and eye-wall clouds characteristic of a hurricane and its winds are swirling clockwise at 350mph.do you have any new information/thoughts on this event?

  11. I like gmail. Only this I dont like about it is they go through your e mail find out key wors and post ads related you your message. I dont like the idea that some one is watching my e mails. Other than that gmail has very nice features. They do it because they have to compete with hotmail and yahoo. Hotmail and yahoo are already established. Google it trying to provide more to attract people towards them. I think it will be free for a long time because the compition is very strong.

  12. Thankyou - I now havethat cleared up, and obviouslt the sources which I gathered that evidence were in accurate.
Also, another question for the topic!!

Is Scientology secretly trying to get people to convert, with every new scientific and/or religious breakthrough it has?

    Is Scientology a true religion?

Science is not a religion. Science does not tell about ethics. Religion is supposed to shape one's personal life as well as social life.
The Religions should not have any say whether the earth is flat or round itâs none of their business nor are they qualified to do so. Their interference in scientific studies only exposes them.
The same way science should not interfere in ethics, love and similar things.
For an example Love is a mere sexual attraction according to science but religion has a different way to look at it, which also considers feelings of human beings and the social impact of such union.
Thats why Scientology can not be a religion
So in my opinion Science and Religion are two tracks of train, they never should meet but help the train along its path of life.

  13. I think religion is a way of life. Some people took it so seriously that they started their will on others on the name of religion. Some even went farther and started killing and raping on the name of religion. All it is that depends on interpretation of every religion. Christianity and Islam are more conservative because they go by one book. While Buddhism, Sikhism and Hinduism seem to be freer in nature and more adaptive to change , they do not deliberately convert people.

  14. i really like it but like i said about the other one the train just stands out as its designed with a higher resolution. Just look at the train and the one in the background you will notice the difference.
Other than this its pretty good. I am impressed keep up the good work and also remember to edit the resolution so that both images contrast well.

Problem is both of them are not images. The backround is image and the train engine is a solid model. I am trying to find out how to blend the model in to the picture.

  15. I think this is because of our concept of reality being perceived in 3 dimensions by us. But some other theories would explain the expansion of universe as a deformation/diplexion of dimensions to other stages, as it were a primigenial stage that we can't empirically determine, but it fits the theory when it's modelled by formulae.
What of String Theory? ok there isn't any mean to empirical prove such theory, but it's been shown as a strong physic theory to come into play. This theory of multidimensional stages of reality as we zoom-in/out our universe, appeals to my reasoning.

I think the ideas and quest to see in an unconventional way helps in deriving new theories and new knowledge come from these theories. We know one more dimension thats "time". But we are still not able to use it in an efficenint way. Remember time machine was based on the concept that time is a dimension and we could travrl in it as other 3 dimensions. One big theory like Einstines reativity theory would make a big impact. all we can do is wait and watch .

  17. Need to disagree here. If science always needs proof, then I would like to ask you would led to the hypothesis of the 18th century that Sun was a giant ball of coal? What lead to the belief that earth had a giant magnet inside it? What lead to the hypothesis of "Hollow Earth Theory" in early 20th century? Einsteins theory of relativity got practically proved only after it was well accepted by the scientific community. Some of the theories of Stephen Hawkings are not close to practical understanding, let alone being proved! The reason is, these hypothesis's made sense in the context of the concerned era. As we came to know about Nuclear Fusion reactions, we could conclude that Sun has a similar chemical process. Similarly God is no wild imagination, but our term for the supreme creator. The day we understand him scientifically, our purpose of existence in this world will be over (atleast mine :) ).
What my religion tells me, earth goes through a cycle of four epochs. These are called "yuga". In the first Yuga, man is very very close to God, there is no vice, and he understands his purpose of existence very well. He dedicates himself to God, there is no evil anywhere. Evil is defined as hate, jealousy or greed. In the second Yuga, evil gets introduced for the first time. People are by far good but some evil exists. Then in the third Yuga, evil starts gaining predominance over good. In the fourth Yuga, evil becomes an inherent property of nearly every human. What it means is that every person has a certain quantity of hate, jealousy and greed. It is also said that every new Yuga is started with the extermination of the previous Yuga and a select few are chosen to lay the foundation of the next Yuga.

This is exactly what Noah in Old Testament, Manu in Hindu Mythology and Gilgamesh in the Epic of Gilgamesh did. These three are the oldest literature in relation to God by three different races i.e. Semetics, Indo-Europeans and Summerians. Manu derives the word "Man" in most european languages and "Manav" in most Indian languages. When three speak the same theory, despite their geographical location, we are forced to attribute atleast some amount of truth to these ancient literature.

Now to continue, currently it is the fourth Yuga running, where there is some part of evil in almost everyone. It is said that by the end of the fourth Yuga, man would have found God, evil would be nullified and Man will realise the reason of his existence and then civilization will go back to the first Yuga.

Science needs proof. The hypothesis of a big ball of coal was derived from the hot Sun full of energy and the knowledge that time. The proof was sun itself and according to science you can derive hypothesis from current knowledge and when the knowledge advances you still have to check whether the hypothesis is right. When science advanced it was proven that sun is not made of coal. So science needs proof and it evolves too.
Science evolves with time just like we all did. Science donât go by âsome one told soâ it goes by âshow me howâ .

Some of the people you mentioned (Manu and others) were scientists back then and they wrote the books best to their knowledge. Modern science does not discard any theories because they are old or religious. All theories are welcome if there is evidence to prove that. The concept of life cycles is proven in modern science it is proven by studying old rocks and deep inside earth.

This is just my personal opinion. I donât intend to hurt anybodyâs feelings. I am sorry if any one felt that way because of my comments.
