I bought an Acer Aspire 5601WLMI for $850 after rebates. It has an AMD Turion 64 X2 ML-50 processor, 2 GB DDR2 ram, 120GB hard drive, 15.4 in brightview widescreen, etc. I did alot of online research before i bought it, as I don't like Acers, and would have gone for a Compaq or Dell had i had more time. But it seemed to get pretty high reviews, and on notebookreview.com it was in the top 5. But has anyone here had any experience with one of them, and can shed more light on whether i made myself a deal or a lemon?
Also, say i was to try out Linux on it, would i run into problems with either the AMD or the dual core? and if not, which distro would be best for an Acer? --keeping in mind that i am a novice at linux and would prefer a familiar GUI so i don't feel too lost on my first try.

I do actually have some bad experience with Acer, but thats an older laptop.
I would definitely recommend Ubuntu as your Linux dist, I had no problem with it as my first Linux dist. I dont think you will get any problems with either AMD or the Dual Core

I could definitely recommend playing wow. If you arent afraid of getting addicted, you won't be disappointed of wow. It got everything, lots of quest, some (well maybe not too great) pvp, big PvE content and alot of things to discover. The world is bigger than you think at first

World of Warcraft
It's basically a runescape with better graphics, but costs money every month.
It's not bad if you dont ussually play a game long so you'll save the $30 - $40 you'de spend on a new game but if you ussually gat addicted to games like this, stick to something free. I've played it once and got bored of it but my friends basically addicted to it. he gives it a 9 / 10 i give it a 6 / 10.

Honestly its a 10/10.
Have been playing it for some time now and I really have to say it is almost perfect. Think blizzard though about everything to make people addicted
