  1. I am from South East Asia and the country is called Singapore. We have three major ISP for my country. I am using 1500Kpbs and upload of 128kpbs. The plan is unlimited/ :D

In Paris, France, the two most competitive ISP's offer 20 Mb/s down and 1 Mb/s up. Monthly rate is between 15 euros (Neuf Telecom) and 30 euros (Free Telecom).

However, there is more to consider than the monthly rate, for instance most ISP's in Paris require their customers to use a premium number to access their customer service. Next thing you know, the service is down and customers pay to report it.

    Hope this helps

  2. There have been a lot of topics here at Xisto Forums about people's favorite applications, but most of them were  Windows.  So I'll start a topic about our favorite Mac OS X applications.

    Brian,

My favorite MacOS X application is Fink (freeware available at http://www.finkproject.org/). It brings the world of Linux into the Mac.

Actually, Fink is the very reason why I switched from PC Linux to Mac: I can do my accounting with gnucash, edit my files with emacs, compile C programs with gcc, use latex for word processing, gnuplot for graphs, etc.

    Best regards,

    John

  3. Hey wait a sec.. who said you can't block spam ? Gmail's got an awesome spam filter that's active round the clock. [...]

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The main difference between a spam filtering feature and a spam blocking feature is that, in the latter, the e-mail is rejected and the sender gets notified of this.

The advantage of spam blocking is that you don't have to inspect your spam box because there is no spam box. Therefore, there is no legit e-mail that may have been wrongly flagged as spam, that the sender believes you have received. If the e-mail is flagged as spammed, the mail bounced and the sender knows...

Spam blocking and spam filtering can be used together: a high-level spam tolerance can be set for spam blocking and a lower-level spam tolerance can be set to spam filtering.

    Hope this helps.

    John.
