  1. Here is a fairly complete and possibly opinionated review of the 2.0 PSP firmware, which will be available for Japanese PSPs on the 27th.Internet browser added* Macromedia Flash is not supported. Some webpage content may not be displayed properly.* You will be able to restrict launching of the browser (kind of like UMDs, but this will be a Yes/No type of restriction). What this means: You get an internet browser on your PSP which requires any standard 802.11x wireless router. It implements HTML 4.01 which is fine for 98% of the content on the web. There will be bookmarks, so you don't have to use the standard PSP input interface everytime you want to go to a site in your bookmarks.Concerns: The main problem with the Wipeout Pure/Derby Time SCEJ browser was the load times. This was not due to bandwith issues, but had to do with loading the page into memory which took a long time. It is unknown how fast the 2.0 firmware's browser is.- VideoJump function added (UMD Video & UMD Music)A-B repeat function added (UMD Video & UMD Music & videos stored in Memory sticks)"4:3 mode" added to Video mode (videos stored in Memory sticks)Sound mute function added (videos stored in Memory sticks)MP4 (AVC) format playback support added (videos stored in Memory sticks)What this means: The Jump function just means that you can skip to the next scene/track on a UMD. A-B repeat function was already implemented in mp3 playback; it lets you choose a clip, starting at point A and ending at point B, and it just loops that clip. 4:3 mode is just another aspect ratio, and it is used in standard TVs. Sound mute - shuts teh PSP's face. MP4(AVC) Playback - There are 2 main types of MPEG-4 movies: MP4 vanilla and MP4 (Part 10). Standard MP4 is the vanilla one, and it is widely used in portables - the PSP already had this. MP4 (Part 10) is also known as AVC and H.264. AVC/H.264 is a very good COderDEcoder which has very good quality for small filesize. It is one of the newest and best codecs out there, along with DivX/XviD.Concerns: Not much to complain about here. The PSP has a chip specifically used for decoding AVC/H.264 files, and it already uses it for playing back those little clips you see in some of your gamesaves. Only problem is that AVC/H.264 takes a long time to convert to. Quicktime 7 pro might have a good solution for that though.-MusicCan accept music tracks in Atrac3 + format from "Sonicstage" under version 3.2 (now for pre-order)MP4 (AAC) & Wave (Linear PCM) format playback support added (music stored in Memory sticks)What this means: ATRAC3 is a Sony music format which weeds out frequencies that some people think they can hear but that you really can't hear. This leads to "cleaner" music at a lower filesize. Previously, SonicStage would not recognize a PRO Memory Stick, but now it will, so you'll be able to transfer over your music. MP4(AAC) - You've got an iPod with a decent screen! No, really, AAC is what iTunes uses, and some audiophiles will argue that it's better than mp3 @ 192kbps. Whatever. Wave, or *.wav, is uncompressed sound, and you'll almost never find a song in this format. *.wav is used mostly for soundbites.Concerns: None. Now you can use music from iTunes.- PhotoWallpaper function addedImage transfer function addedTIFF, GIF, PNG, BMP format supportedWhat this means: You'll be able to set any image in your Memory Stick as your background. I don't think that it will write it to flash though, so once you take out your MS, the background will revert back to normal. Image Transferring - this means that you'll be able to WiFi your friend the Trinity. TIFF, GIF, PNG, BMP = Tagged Image File Format, Graphics Interchange Format, Portable Network Graphics, Windows Bitmap. These are just more file formats like JPEG(Joint Photography Experts Group)Concerns: What if your friend sends YOU the trinity?- Settings"Korean language" added to "system settings" -> "System language""Character set" added to "system settings""Theme settings" added"Internet browser startup restriction" added to "Security settings""WPA-PSK (TKIP)" added to security method in "Network settings"Web input support is added to the keyboard input mode. What this means: Korean people can now use a JP PSP. Character Set.. this is just a guess, but perhaps this has to do with using foreign characters in an English keypad. For example, in 1.50, if you change the language to English, you can't type in Japanese characters. Theme Settings - We'll have to see about this one. Browser Startup Restriction - set this to Off so a random person can't browse the internet without the password. WPA-PSIK: this is stronger than the WEP encryption that wireless routers use. 128-bit WEP can be broken within 15 minutes (as was proven on LUELinks) and WPA is a lot stronger. Web Input... this has to be more than just being able to type in a browser. Perhaps there will be a new way to type.Concerns: None, but there are a lot of questions to be asked.Overall, it's a good package, and will give emulation a run for it's money.*Note: Everything here was typed off the top of my head; there may be some factual errors, but I belive it's at least 98% correct.2.0 is expected for American PSPs within a week of the Japanese release.
  2. Wow. That is very cool! I wonder how far away we are from desktops like the one seen in the movie, Paycheck?
  3. Amen, brotha! For making avitars as well as signatures, Photoshop is god! And for the comment about it being to complicated? It is NOT too complicated! The basic skills which are required to make an avitar can be learned from tutorials included with the software in about an hour! Just defending my baby. Anyway, pretty cool link.
  4. In 20 years? In 20 years, we'll all be dead! For years I've been sticking with the idea that some catastrophic event will happen in 2012. For those of you who are not familiar with the Mayans, they had a calendar. A very, very accurate calendar. And it ends. December 2012. I believe that one of three things will happen in 2012: 1) Some major event will take place in early 2012. Some dictator will anger some monarch. The president will be assassinated. Something. And it will spark a major, global conflict. After several months of fighting, nukes will fly and that will be it. or 2) Aliens will come and decide they want to build an inter-galactic freeway through our planet and have to demolish earth. (Couldn't resist) or 3) God, in whatever form, will come down and the Appocalypse will occur. AKA. The Book of Revalations. I'm not saying which I think will be more likely to occur, but you mark my words! The world will end December 2012!!!
  5. In order of preference: 1) Halo 2 (XBOX) 2) Half-Life 2 (PC) 3) Counter-Strike Source (PC) 4) James Bond 007: Goldeneye (N64) 5) Coded Arms (PSP) The first three are pretty obvious choices and I think many would agree that currently, they are the best. My 4th choice may seem a bit odd to some but one has to love the classics. It was the first real FPS and a pretty good one for the times. And fifth, well...what can I say? I love the PSP and despite some control issues, and no story...it's a pretty good game.
  6. The whole shuttle program should be scrapped. With delays and bugs and problems and weather! And NASA has already lost two shuttles! No. This shouldn't go on at all. We need to step up research for a better ship. If NASA would pull of the engineers they have wasting their time on the shuttle, and had them work on the X-plane or some other futuristic-travel device, money would be saved as well as resources. The shuttle has done it's time, but now it's a lost cause.
  7. I'm insulted! Where's the Trumpet? Where's the Saxophone? Where's teh friggin' flute?!? I want my flute!!!
  8. I enjoy the occasional round of DDR. The local arcade has DDR Extreme. I was introduced to the game about a year ago by a friend and have played ever since. I'm not great at it, but I can consitantly pass Standard songs. Every once and a while I'll pass a Heavy or two. I'm very proud of my AAA on "A". Has anyone else gotten a AAA?
  9. Nintendo is in a state of decline. Some analysts have predicted that in as little as five years, Nintendo will drop out of the console race and only develop software. The Sony Playstation 2 is currently killing the others in the console race. And the XBox, while a bit klunky and unwieldy, clearly beats the Gamecube. The main thing Sony and Microsoft have over Nintendo is their third-party support. Nintendo is known for making excellent games itself but doesn't seem to have many friends when it comes to software. In upcomming years, the 360 will be a magnificent system. From what I've seen, it's capabilities are unimaginable. But the PS3 is also a competitor. Sony did not disappoint with it's upgrade to the original Playstation. In terms of handhelds: Sony kills. The PSP is clearly the better system over the Nintendo DS. While the DS is inovative with its dual touch screens. The PSP allows for so much more. It's ability to connect to a computer via USB cable and UMD disc format allows for many video, audio and gaming capabilites. Plus (my favorite), the PSP has the ability to connect wirelessly to the internet for downloads and upgrades. With "Wipeout Pure" a PSP user has a full internet browser on his handheld. The DS does not allow for this. Not to mention the physical attributes of the two systems.Bottom line: Sony and Microsoft will continue to battle for control of the console gaming industry. Sony will soon take control of handheld gaming. And Nintendo is going downhill.
  10. Not bad. I'm guessing you took the large images of Anakin and Vader and blured them toward the center manually, then took the two inner Vader pictures and layed them on top. Right? Definately cool. Good job!
  11. Wow! I just did this and I've already noticed an increase in speed! Does this apply to downloads too? What else can be tweaked? This is really awesome!
  12. Thanks man. That helps quite a bit. Is there a way for you to find out my MAC address or for me to find yours? Is this all stored somewhere?
  13. I basically taught myself HTML. I understood the idea of <> and </> but everything else was trial and error. It took me a few months but I got quite a bit down. It's actually quite a logical language.

What's happening here?
  15. I'm feeling a bit dumb here, but could someone explain to me exactly what a MAC address is and what it does? Is it broadcast like an IP? Who can find out my MAC address? Why would they want my MAC address? Etc. Any help here would be great. Thanks.
  16. This tutorial will teach you how to make a quick and easy starfield background for use in signatures and other art.Step 1: Create a new document, any size, any resolutionStep 2: Press "D" to set colors to defaultStep 3: Press "X" to switch foreground with background colorStep 4: Press "CTRL+Backspace" to fill the Background layer with blackStep 5: Filter->Noise->Add Noise (10, Gaussian, Monochromatic)Step 6: Press "CTRL+L" to bring up the Levels windowStep 7: Input levels: 0, .25, 100And you're done! For some added effects, try adding Lens Flares (Filter->Render->Lens Flare) which when you set to a low brightness, look remarkably like bright stars.
  17. I have downloaded Trillian and agree with the post calling it "bloated." For me, it seemed all over the place. I played for a few hours trying to format it and whatnot. Can't quite get things settled down. And I miss some of the features in MSN. I'd just say, download AIM, MSN, and Yahoo! (maybe not Yahoo!) seprately and use them at the same time. True, it'll kill your RAM (on a laptop, at least), but I get my DOODADS BACK!!!
  18. I'm sory friend. But this just isn't true or possible. My household, in addition to owning a PSP, also happens to own a DS so I've looked into this. Inside the PSP is a 11-bit chip that's used for wireless play (WI-FI) as well as connections to the internet for updates as well as downloads. In comparison to a laptop, this is fairly weak but it gets the job done. To get a good, solid (50%+) connection, you must be within 500 feet of the source. Not great, but like I said, it gets the job done. Now, with the DS, it uses a 2.2-bit card which is so incredibly weak in comparison, an internet connection would be worthless as well as very hard to obtain. You would have to be within 25 feet of the source and at best, your connection would be approximately one-third as fast as a dialup connection. The PSP allows, on a good day, 50 kbps or so. With the DS, under best conditions, would only allow for a 2-4 kbps connection. If Nintendo can find some way to overcome their outdated hardware and negotiate with Motorola or AT&T to get a connection to the web, God help them. But I don't see it happening unless Nintendo either changes their hardware on release, or forces you to buy an adapter or new card. I'd just advise to stick with the PSP (sorry for plugging Sony's system here, but I've toyed with each and the numbers don't lie). It wins in just about every category numerically except for battery life. But this isn't a Nintendo vs. Sony thread. Cool internet connection using an awesome system!
  19. Yes. It's very cool. And you don't have to pay at all, assuming you can find someone else's SSID and have a 50% connection. So it's free. And yes, it works. Very well, in fact. I use it every day from school. I can get a connection when I'm within about 500 feet of the library or office. I use it to get on MSN Messenger, check my email, update online games, research information, etc.I'm just curious if anyone else has done this. I know quite a bit about it, but there's probably a few more tricks out there. And I didn't learn this from a site. I got the DNS number from a friend and more or less figured the rest out for myself. You could probably Google "PSP Web Browser" and find something if you're really curious.
  20. This is a fairly easy tutorial to make a hyperspace scene. Begin, of course, with a new document. Square, any resolution, RGB color. Doesn't really matter. Step 1: Press "D" to reset colors. Then, Filter>Render>Clouds. Step 2: Filter>Pixelate>Mezzotint. Set it for "Long Lines". Step 3: Filter>Blur>Radial Blur. "100, Zoom, Best" for settings. Step 4: Press "CTRL+U". Click "Colorize". Then set to any color you desire. I used "190, 40, 0". Final Result:
  21. Thanks. I found a site using the query "QBasic". It's too bad they are so dissimilar. I enjoy using TI-BASIC to make games in Calculus. Is there a converter that you know of?
  22. I'm curious, how many other people use the PSP for internet? If you have no idea what I'm talking about, but have a PSP, Wipeout Pure, and and are curious about this, here's how to do it:Here, I will go step-by-step about how to get your PSP online.Part 1Step 1:Turn PSP on (without game disc in)Step 2:Under "Settings", click on "Network Settings"Step 3:Click "Infrastructure Mode"Step 4:Click "-New Connection-"Step 5:Enter a name for your connection (or just leave it as "Connection 1", it doesn't matter)Step 6:Scroll rightStep 7:Under "WLAN Settings", "Scan" for an SSID or enter your own. You MUST have at least a 50% connection!Step 8:Scroll rightStep 9:Under "Address Settings", choose "Custom"Step 10:Scroll rightStep 11:Under "IP Address Setting", choose "Automatic"Step 12:Scroll rightStep 13:Under "DNS Setting", choose "Manual"Step 14:Enter 67.171.70.72 for your "Primary DNS". Leave "Secondary DNS" as 0.0.0.0Step 15:Scroll rightStep 16:Under "Proxy Server", choose "Do Not Use"Step 17:Scroll right twiceStep 18:Press the X buttonStep 19:Press the Circle buttonPart 2Step 1:Insert Wipeout Pure and load the gameStep 2:Load your profile or make a new oneStep 3:On the lower-left edge of your PSP is your WLAN switch. Slide it up to turn your WLAN on.Step 4:At the Main Menu for Wipeout Pure, select "Download"Step 5:"Game experience may change during wireless play" will pop up. Select "OK" and press XStep 6:Remember your connection name from Step 5 of Part 1? Select that as your connection and press X. It may take a few seconds to load the home page.Step 7:Press X at the green pictureStep 8:Scroll down to the large rectangle and press X. From here you can enter your desired webpage using the soft keyboard.I, of course, am not the one who discovered this. This trick was discoverd by Jonathan Terleski, a student at Carnegie Mellon. He created the home page which is viewed as soon as you access the internet.Anyone heard/done this?
  23. Personally, I've used all three.Yahoo! Messenger is impossible! It's unpredictable. It's slow! I HATE IT! Enough said 'bout Yahoo!.AOL Instant Messenger is great. It allows me to do just about everything I need. All of my American friends use AIM. It is a bit intrusive and doesn't have some of the cool features that MSN has.MSN Messenger is the best thing I've found. It's quick. It's easy. It has that awesome Handwriting feature! I love that! And winks and nudges are awesome as well. Most of my European friends use this one. It doesn't seem to be catching on with my American buddies. I don't know why...But I digress, and conclude: MSN is awesome.I've never tried Trillian. Where can I download it?
  24. I'm a big fan of Texas Instruments BASIC, which, for those of you who aren't familiar with it, is used primarily on the TI-89 Titanium, TI-89, TI-92 Plus, TI-92, TI-84 Plus, TI-84, TI-83 Plus Silver, TI-83 Plus, TI-83, TI-86, TI-82, and Voyage 200 graphing calculators. Most of the newer TI calculators provide manuals with instruction for this language. For those still in the dark and curious, visit TICalc.org for more information on these devices and programs. But, what I'm curious about, is if anyone can compare TI-BASIC and Visual Basic (.NET) for me. I'm wondering if my TI-BASIC skills will convert and transfer well to VB. What commands share roots and are similar? And, is there a site I can view to teach me about this? Thanks!
  25. Photoshop is FAR better than any other image editing software. I've used Photoshop Creative Suite for several years and have never found a better way to make/edit pictures. Some of the renders in CS make the creation of various textures very easy on the unexperienced editor. Photoshop, like a good game, is easy to get the hang of, but difficult to master.I enjoy using Photoshop to make signatures for online forums as well as art for school and local exhibitions. I've only used it for a few years with no instruction, and already have a decent command of the program.I suggest Photoshop CS 2 for anyone looking for an imaging program.
