That's pretty weird, if it works on other computers and not on yours then there is most likely a problem with your computer. Either in the way that it interacts with the enclosure or some driver somewhere.I'm not to sure what to suggest next =SPerhaps it's the hard drive itself? if you have any other spare hdds, or if you have another hdd that you use within a case that is just for data, try swapping the two and seeing if the enclosure works all the time with the other hdd.
-
yikes =S and the enclosure works on other computers? it just refuses for yours? did you cehck the maximum size allowable on the enclosure as well?
-
couple self check things- what operation system are you running, do you have to install any extra drivers with your system in order to use your enclosure properly?- does your enclosure support the size of the hdd that you are using in it? some enclosures have a cap on the size of the hdd that you can use with it, and won't work with hdds that go beyond it- check your usb drivers, perhaps they just need to be updated?- check the actual hdd, perhaps it needs to be formated or the master/slave jumpers need to be set a certain way to work with your enclosure?all I can think of right now, I have an enclosure myself and work with a few here at work, I don't know much but I'll try to help you along

Well, do you get a message or anything? or does it simply not start up? One problem you may have is your computer processor, I had the same kind of problem except I would get an error message saying that "sse" commands/exceptions could not be run (or something along those lines, it was a week or so ago ''). I'm running an AMD processor, pretty sure it's an Athlon, and from what I've been able to find out my processor isn't supported. (rest of my specs, 7** mb ram, 90gb hdd, ati a-i-w 9600xt) I haven't been able to confirm the processor deal, but if you're getting a similar message that may be it

Thanks guys, that helps a ton, I'm definitely going to be holding onto this stuff for the next computer I build

Hey, I recently came into possession of an unused pc that the owner couldn't get running, they told me that if I could get it working I could keep it (and even if I can't, I've still got it =P )so I've been going through the innards (I think the problem is the power supply, testing parts tommorrow) and I've come across some scsi stuff. A card and a pair of hard drives.I've never used scsi hdds before, what is the difference between scsi and ide and how exactly does scsi work?

I want to put a few things together for my site, capturing media from a video game that I own, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to (in which case I just may and then have a copyright msg) or if I am, what specific message I'm supposed to paste on my site.the game is Phantom Crash, it's a mech game and there is a customize section for your mech that you purchase and build and stuff. From the game I want to capture pictures of parts, stickers taht you can add to your mech, paint patterns and stuff.if I want to take a paint pattern and edit it so it's a tiled as my page background and set up a java script program that uses pictures taht I've captured to generate a mech from user input, what kind of copyright msg do I need? is it just the same that I see everywhere? "everything here that does not belong to me belongs to somebody else, all that stuff is copyrighted by their respective creators/owners"?

Looking For X-Box Controller Specs... this would go here, right? 0.o
m3ch4 replied to m3ch4's topic in Hardware Workshop
this much I understand, in detail, trust me. the problem we're having is in the merging of the joysticks and controllers, the signal strengths are different. for examples: right now we're trying to rewire one of the small joysticks so that their potentia-o-meter (sp? =P) will accept signals from one of the larger joysticks potentia-o-meter (sp). The voltages are not equal and the signals get mixed up or miscommunicated completely. Hence the search for schematics =/ -
Hey, if anyone has any information on xbox controller (s-type) schematics could you post here with links or info if any exsists?so me and my buddy had this crazy idea for an xbox controller mod. Basically we're merging a pair of joysticks with the controller so that you can use the joysticks and their buttons instead of a regular controller.the reason for this being the way that the buttons and joysticks on the official controller are spaced out and for certain games where you need to hit the buttons as you're moving the joysticks this becomes highly ackward, etc. we have our plan for how to map out which buttons to where, the problem lies in the physical merging of the controller and the two joysticks. we're having problems matching the signal voltages and stuff.controller we're modding is an official ms s-typejoysticks we're modifiying are a pair of logitech attack 3'sAny info is welcome =D

Chased after that, and came across... http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ ..downloaded the program and checked it out, apparantly it just adds some css coding and then creates an "eot" file that points browsers to the files to load the font characters. It's pretty slick, but it's probably something that can be coded yourself. I've never heard of an "eot" file and don't know how to create it without the program though =/

Yeah, frames I'm gonna leave alone right now...might end up going back to it, but I hope not =S The reason I'm curious about css is that I plan to have a table like that on my site, and a friend of mine was going to program in in javascript for me. He's picking up as many programming languages as he can and said he'd be interested in any type of projects that I could give like this so he could have some non-generic stuff to program to help keep his interested. The thing is he does't know for sure whether he's going to pick up js, that being my concern and my source of questions =/ thanks again for your advice! much appreciated =)

Halo2, simply for the replayability that live gives.I personally can't get into campaigns, they really start to bore me after a while because if you think about it, they don't over much challenge. And when they do the challenge often falls to more/stronger enemies instead of SMARTER enemies. THat's what multiplayer is, playing against smarter enemies. Enemies that are on your level of strength that will always be increasing their skills.we can't (or maybe we can and we just don't) program games to be smarter, we just make the wall players have to bunch through thicker

I voted for neither, there are enough problems with the psp and the dual screen / touch screen of the ds doesn't really interest meI'm going to wait till sony/nintendo comes out with a portable gaming system/pda/media player thing, and tehn get that =PLOLI don't play enough portable games and none of the current systems have enough "features" to make me shell out the kind of dough they're forcing us to pay =P

Robots.txt Introduction bots and spiders crawling the web
m3ch4 replied to NilsC's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Answers everything! Thanks a ton man! (I've yet to make my way through the Xisto cpanel, I have approval already, but I have a few other things to deal with before I can go full tilt on my site =S) -
He's refering to the tweaks that people make to their browsers that cause destabilization, not the act of posting that does that =P I've heard that mentioned a couple times as well, that messing with the defaults and missing some of the settings or changing a few extra ones can really mess around with things. Is there an official response from Mozilla about tweaks? Have they released their own list of tweaks that they officially stand behind?

Robots.txt Introduction bots and spiders crawling the web

I'm sorry, I need a bit more clairification here ><'' (m3ch4 = newb =P) if I create a site (not done yet, but below will be the basic map right now) and it looks like this... system482.astahost.com (main page) -includes "index.html" ->links to->system482.astahost.com/video_games/ -includes "index.html" ->links to->system482.astahost.com/personal/ -includes "index.html" ->links to->system482.astahost.com/blah_blah_blah/ -includes "index.html" where is "public_html" exsist? -

qucik question: root directory refers to where you place your "index.html" file, correct? -
do you guys have the final specs? (well I guess at this point, they'd have to be if they're gonna show off the system may12 or so =P) and what are they? ''

*glances at clock and decides to turn in for the night**bookmarks http://www.htmldog.com/ (hi5 Chiiyo, thanks!)*one more quick question, from the looks of the css code I'm curious as to how complex it gets and what kind of stuff it can do.for example, I want to create a table...________________| cell1 | cell2 | cell3 |-----------------------| cell 4 ...................|-----------------------...like so, where cell 1,2,3 will be selectable (say, clicked/unclicked) and the selections there will change the output in cell 4.can something like that be programmed in css? I'm curious because css looks super light weight, and if it's possible to do something like that through css as opposed to javascript I'd be really interested. Witht this amount, or more, of complexity like this will css remain lightweight and be preferable to javascript?...or if looking for an alternate to javascript seems ridiculus and css isn't as lightweight as it appears from this tuturial please feel free to poke me a sharp stick.

Alright, the question is, what is the easiest combination of background colors to font colors on the eyes? (what causes the least amount of strain)A while back I remember reading something that said that black text on a white background is harder to read then white text on a black background, and when I asked a webmaster friend of mind he said that he prefers black text on grey bgso, assuming a webpage that consists solely of colored text and a colored background, what are the best choices? white on black? black on white? black on grey? or some other combination? (or am I just going a bit too far out there with thinking about people's eye strain when tehy view my page? o.0)

@Dreamthanks for the suggestion, this'll probably be my main solution for things@ninjamunkyLISTS! Score! Thanks man, those were what I was looking for =Dthanks for the replys and explainations, much appreciated

Newb question here again '''But for your table as image that you've created (specifically cells 4, 5 and 6) will text (that you add later within the html code) appear on top of that image? as in...the image is the table's "back drop"?Also, if the above question proves true, what happens if the amount of text entered with the html becomes too great for the cell? does the cell expand or remain constant? does that screw up the image if it expands? (I'm going to guess that, because you have specific sizes, the cell does nto expand?)
-
Newb question here, please don't kill me =Swhen you refer to css links you mention this within the code section...*font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 11px;*just curious, but what exactely does font-family refer to? what other options are available and what is the font is used in the final display?also, for font-size, how does that relate to the font sizes that are regularly used in html code? is the pixel reference simply something that is left out in the html or does this font-size use a different scale/size then regular html code?
