  1. hI, Tansqrx, I think you may be right. MC, I have already been through the motions, and I can't find a Pagefile.sys anywhere on the system. I have tried un-hidding Files, and seraching with the include hidden files and folders flag set. this is my real consern, I can't get Half Life 2 to paly since this occured. I would have liked to get the system going, but It looks more and more like a re-build. Nothing seems to force the OS to create that pagefile. Regards Cass
  2. Oh Yeah Y2K was a bit silly, but it paid the bills for a while
  3. In the short term I don’t think any thing will really change. Technology will increase, but not at a speed that will transform the world over night. Global warming will steadily wreak a greater toll on the West and bring developing countries in Africa to their knees. Everything we want will cost less, everything we don’t want but have to pay for will cost more. I also think crime will increase.I agree with several of the previous posts that at some point over the next 25 years a terror group, or 2 states facing off will unleash a WMD. I shy away from suggesting it will be a nuclear device directly, since there are other weapons (bio and Chem) with a similar destructive capability. I also think that the next 25 years will see a manned mission to mars. I also think construction of a moon base will have started but I don’t think it will be American but Chinese. I do think we are on the verge of a material revolution however I don’t think it will affect us as much as it sounds. I think that with in 25 years we will start seeing TV’s that are 1CM thick and that all manner of devices will have pull out flexible screens. Once mobile device have the GUI we all need I think it will create the mobi-net. The Mobi-net will be a dynamic network of devices that maintain Peer2peer connections with devices around them (no service providers, contracts or charges). I believe that in the distant future we must adopt a unified existence with out boundaries where every individually is afforded the same rights and opportunities.I have come to think that there are 2 major "things" that will stand in the way.1. Religion. Religion has almost always been the cause of conflict, Richard the Lion Heart on the crusades, Egypt and Syria against Israel, St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre. It is religion that is currently fuelling the spate of terrorism that is being rained down on the west, since it was the west that supported the creation of Israel and still (through the U.S. selling arms such as F16s etc.) provides support for the continued occupation of Palestine. It seems to me that in the west religion is dieing, I don't know anyone who actively practices religion. I know plenty of people (friends and family) that go to church, or the temple, but during debate it seems that they are driven more by habit than by real informed choice or faith. In the Middle East the opposite seems to be the case. More and more young people embrace religion (and I am talking mainstream not fanaticism) to gain some kind of meaning in their life.1. Money. The future is like a game of monopoly, we all keep going round and round driven by money, it like Bitter Sweet symphony "Your a slave to money then you die". I am currently following the thread of thought that capitalism is what will eventually destroy the world (not in a literal since) by continually separating people. People will always seek money because it gives them power and thus divides people, it also gives them more rights in as much as they can hire lawyers to enforce there rights if needed. It is also the West’s apparent affluence that enrages the fanatics. It is the West’s “need” to recover money from the poorest people that through 3rd worlds dept that keeps 100’s of millions from having the same chance of life as the rest.I think that these 2 will eventually lead to a conflict that will shape the future of the human race. I don’t think we can continue to support segregation and our exponential growth. Segregation means that the wealthy and powerful will have all the resources and the poor will be faced with poverty. This can only lead to discontent and war. My hope is that when the revolution comes (and I think that within 500 years it will) what emerges at the other side has a single unified believe structure that values each individual on an equal basis. I worry that it won’t. I worry that what will emerge will be an Empire dominated by power and greed, with the oppressed dealt with brutally and out of site of the “enlightened” population on the winning side.
  4. Hi,Like the picture.........I am in one of those strange places where I appreciate the technology that war creates, fosters and develops, but like most I don't like the though of it being used for the pourpose for which it was originaly intended.Any way, do you take commisions?Regards Cass
  5. Man I feel some what inadequate with my Duron 1800 (it is the 266 version). Any way my system is:System:Asus A7V600-xATI Radeon 9700Duron 1800\266512MB\333\2700Mylex EX2000 RAID2x Seagate 73GB SCSI U160 HDD running in RAID 0 (Attached to separate Channels on the MylexAdaptec 19160 SCSI Card1x Seagate 73GB SCSI U160 HDD (attached to 19160)Adaptec 29160 SCSI CardSeagate Viper 200 Ultrium I Tape Drive (attached to 29160)Liton SOHC-5232K DVD\CDRW2x FDDEven with a ArcticCooler Fan on the Processor and a AcrticCooler VGA thingy on the Graphics Cards it still really noisy (if you stand out side on a quiet night you will probably be able to hear it in the distance). Come to think of it I could do with some advice on this. The 2 RAID drives are in Hot Swap bays that have tiny fans (which make all the noise). I tried disconnecting them, but it set of the alarm. I tried putting a resistor in series and it set of the alarm. I can only assume that it is actually counting the revs (rather than just checking if they are spinning). How on earth would I trick the circuit into thinking the fans were spinning at the correct speed?? (I though about disabling the alarm, but I rather not).
  6. Hi, I need help from someone who knows WinXP (SP2) and has an understanding of how the Pagefile is created and administered by the System.I have just re-built my PC with Windows XP Pro (After changing the System disk configuration), and installed SP2 and all the available updates. I then loaded Office 2003, and Norton 2004, ZA Pro, Nero, Winzip 9 (eval), WinRAR, Acrobat R, Realone, Quicktime, Winamp, VB6SP5 and all was well (all correctly licensed except for winzip).I then installed Visual Studio.net (also correctly licensed), on the next re-boot I got an error message telling me that I didn't have a Pagefile, and that Windows had (kindly) created a temporary one for me.I duly when to set it manually, I have 512MB, so I set Start at 512MB max at 1024MB and was prompted fro a re-boot. On re-boot I get the same error message.I have tried setting no Pagefile and re-booting then setting one, and setting it to System Managed to no avail.I have tried editing the registry keys:HKEY_Local_Machine\System\currentcontrolset\control\session manager\Memory Managment\pagefilesand setting the value to: C:\pagefile.sys 766 1024I have tried deleting the key (and changing the value from 1 to 0): HKEY_Local_Machine\System\currentcontrolset\control\session manager\Memory Management\TempPagefilenothing works I still get the same error at start-up.I have read some other "helps" on the internet and several site suggest setting no Pagefile then rebooting and deleting the pagefile.sys then setting a page file and rebooting, this did not work, principally because there is no Pagefile.sys to delete!!. Other sites suggest booting into safe mode and then deleting the pagefile.sys, and re-booting. XP should then re-create a Pagefile using the registry key mentioned above. In my case it doesn't work (presumably since there was no Pagefile.sys to be deleted).I need help, I do not want to re-build this system again.System:Asus A7V600-xATI Radeon 9700Duron 1800\266512MB\333\2700Mylex EX2000 RAID2x Seagate 73GB SCSI U160 HDD running in RAID 0 (Attached to separate Channels on the MylexAdaptec 19160 SCSI Card1x Seagate 73GB SCSI U160 HDD (attached to 19160)Adaptec 29160 SCSI CardSeagate Viper 200 Ultrium Tape Drive (attached to 29160)Liton SOHC-5232K DVD\CDRW2x FDD
