  1. Intel boy I dont know where you got the idea that the Intel 800 series were dual core the only processors that are dual core that they make are the Xeon's although they now have 800 FSB so I guess you could be talking about those but they are made for servers not for normal cpu use, and just for the people that dont know AMD created dual core to creat less heat according to Moore's Law that having 2 processors doing the "number crunching" will conduct less heat then one stressing on all the "numbers" BUT do not thing

Intel Pentium D or 800 Series IS ACTUALLY DUAL CORE, this is because intel can produce a volume to provide desktop segment, as AMD cant they just produce for servers segment.
    http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/homepage.html

But, as far a here AMD Wins 6 to 0..
People prefeer AMD and it means AMD is BETTER.. that simple.

For overclockers i have to say, YES u can overclock an intel, and for ur notice the extreme edicion has the multipier UNLOCKED.
Intel has a software called, Desktop Control Center wich is a kind of overclock for dummies, it works on 9xx series and on some 865.

    The fight is over?.

  2. Ok freinds,As I am an imparcial one, I decided to use a middle end procesor to compite the best of AMD, I think an Itanium or Itanium 2 is out of discussion as they are real IA64 CPU and have more than 15 years on 64bits.BUT, talkin on 64 bits EXTENSIONS as these two, wich one is better?AMD have the MTU on CPU, Hyper Transport and other stuff.8xx have Speed Step, SSE3, Enhanced Net brust and others..I forgot 8xx is DUAL CORE, but not hyper threading (only extreme).THE FINAL FIGHT IS NOW!!. WICH ONE IS BETTER?, PROVE IT!.

  3. So, here is how i see it... The AMD does more work per CPU cycle than Intel.

Intel runs at a higher clock rate.

This SEEMS to even performace out... but consider the following.....

    Higher Frequency Requires more Power....

Higher frequency increaces Electro magnetic induction into adjacent tracks... so again, you  need even more voltage to keep the CPU stable.

which in turn SURELY means a hotter CPU, and the need for better cooling.

What would you rather have, a nice cool Calculator CPU running at 11Mhz.

or a large collection og logic gates running at 12 terrahertz ???

CPU clock speed is not everything.

it seems Intel spends too much money advertiseing, and not enough on impocing their CPU.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    Ok here i go again.

The P4 HT does more CPU work per cycle than AMD and has more bandwith, you're absolutly right on saying that clock rate isn't the principal varialbe, but with more bandtwith 800mhz beetwen the system and cpu, and a RAM capable to keep the cache fulled and the core working almost all the time when it's loaded de P4 do a lot of more work than a AMD.

I really doubt yo saw an imparcial benchmark showing de AMD faster, (please search on tom's hardware), becuase it's imposible.

On the temperature issue, letme introduce you to the 90nm technology, wich uses more refinated silicium and less power.

If u prefeer a nice calculator, that's what u will have, more logoc gates and transistors are more instructions technology and stability on the CPU.(ex. temperature control on core).

on the imporving CPU let me know you that 64b that calims AMD now has 15 years on market and available on Intanium, and the 64 bits technology name is IA64 (Intel Architecture 64 bits), and AMD reach and rent this technology just now, wich is property of intel.

Intel has CPU more powerfull and technology on market wich will be on pentiums on 2 or 3 years as HT was availabe on xeon since 1999.

We can imporve our CPU just with a mouse click, cause we have the technolgy ready, tested and working to do so, but it's not usefull nowadays (as 64b).

We are more expensive because we investigate and develop new tech. as AMD just rent our patents and techs, (AMD is IA32 and I386 compatible) but dont have the right tools to make it possible (90nm tech).

We will comercialize the P4 600 next week with 64EMT just as AMD it's NOT full a IA64 tech, it's only a 64 extension on memory manage and on other stuff but NOT support floating points operators on 64b such as 64b word on databases or numbers on floating. ITS ALLMOST USEFULL WHEN U HAVE MORE THAN 4GB of RAM, it's only a bigger word to adress the memory up to 4bg on CPU core.

    I u want to try a real 64 bits buy a ITANIUM 2, at 600 U$S.

I have a lot of more examples and arguments to say.

But on sintesis, P4 HT are fastest CPU nowadays for home/office PC, and all imparcials benchmarks say that.

And the fastest CPU available is Itanium.

    The stablest CPU is XEON.

So if u want a calculator that trays to imitate a xeon buy an opteron and see it burn itself if u load it at full.

A caluclator that trays to imitate a celeron is Ath, but with less bandwith it can't support the same CPU LOAD:

want benchamrk CPU vs. CPU here u have.

NOT A OPENGL OR DIRECTX BENCH WICH ALL OF US KNOW ITS A VIDEO BENCH AND THERE THE VIDEO CARD RULEZ.

Revving up in the New Year: AMD Athlon64 3400+ versus Intel's P4 3.2 GHz

note that is old p4 1mb cache.

  4. MAC is really better, but, dont forget that uncle bill also owns part of intel, Intel Architecture + Mircrosoft, is the most "published" and standarized PC.Also DONT FORGET AMD USES INTEL ARCHITECTURE (IA32 - IA64 - I386 - ETC).The explnation is on "comercialization" issues..Intel and Microsoft cahnnels, keep all resellers world wide, with a product of them on the stores, as MAC is only on "selected" sotres

  5. OK, intel has better lifetime, speed, control, etc---I can't be objetive, intel feeds my familiy. I work on Intel as an FCR for southern cone region (south america).. so...INTEL RULEZ :).But, i dont lie if a say that i had an AMD k6, and it blows up on the 3rd week, i overclocked it.Nowaday i have a p4 OVERCLOCKED, yes OVERCLOCKED, the FSB is on 440 when it is 400. and still running 2 years (everclocked)...

  6. 775 prescott have no performance advantage over 478. I have a 478 prescott, and they are supposed to have temperature issues, and 775 have solved that, but with my Tt HSF, i idle at about 30-35 and load at a max of 45. 775 tend to use DDR2 and PCI-E though on the 915 mobo's.

Better yet go for a Socket 939 Athlon 64.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    Pedro,

THe 478 prescott is exactly the same core as a 775 prescott now a days, the 755 has better perfromance and bandwith, but today they are just the same, the difference is that this is 755 floor and 478 roof.

The prescott has NO TEMEPERATURE ISSUES, as it uses more refinated silicious it can carry more electricity, and can support more temperature after it crashes because of an "avalanche" of electrons because of temperature or electricity, that is why 90nm technology opers at nominal temperature of 70ºC. Wich is a lot more than the 45ºC supported by AMD or intel Northwood.

For more info on Prescott please refeer to.

There you have absolutely all info on 478, 775 and prescott.

  7. You say that intel and amd MBs are better than 3rd party MBs??

My firend ONLY INTEL make mobos AMD CPU depends on VIA, SYS or Nvidia Chipsets. So AMD doesn't make chipsets. Nvidia works only for AMD because NV Owns part of AMD, so ATI make only for intel because intel gives ATI the technology to "fight" with NV.
That is why Intel CPU are Better, you can have an intel CPU with and intel Chipset or mobo. with AMD is impossible.
    I'm AGREE with A>B>C. not A<B<C.

In the real world:CPU: IBM PowerPC = MIPS R16000A > AMD > Intel.

Please don't forget Itanium and XEON from Intel.. MIPS = more than u can imagine.

  8. I've been considering making a new beefy game system and I've been all torn up about the PCI-X thing.  It seems like right now PCIX and AGP perform about the same, but the availability is thin for PCI-X hardware.  Be it Intel or AMD, whats the route to go, AGP or PCIX?  Will AGP be out in a year and my system will hit the upper bound?

And on that note, what would you pack into such a system?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Ok fellas here i go again.

PCI-X was concibed for replacing the OLD PCI technology wich has more than 11 years old (pretty much for IT bussines).

In reference to AGP and PCIX-8X the diffrence is more bandwith and more wats to PCIX, that is on the bus, if the graphics card need more bandwith than a AGP-8X it will need to be PCIX, so the speed on graphics depends on GPU it NOT depend on the bus if it can delivery the bandwith needed by de GPU-

Today the chipsets manufacturers (intel - via - sys) are migrating thier suthbridges to PCI-X, these migration is the same that happes 10 yeras ago with ISA & VESA migrating to PCI & AGP. It's a mobo issue.

TODAY PCIX and PCIX-8 are indispensable for a high end desktop, the AGP can't provide the bandwith and electricity for a high end GPU.

  9. Does Intel Pentium 4 with a socket 775 performs better than socket 478?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    YES YES YES...

The LGA 775 Socket was concibed for trespassing the 3.5 Ghz fronteer wich is imposible to pass using only 478 contacts between mother and CPU.

The LGA 775 also eliminates the electrmagnteic noises produced by the pin array by removing the pines, and has better surface of contact by using gold contacts surfaces, the surface of contact is no more a single point, it's now a a surface.

The only bad news on LGA 775 it's that the gold is very maleable and it's very sensible to contaminations and scratchs, and the socket on motherboard is also very "weak".

The "little wafer" (core) need to be "feeded" with data to process, and needs to delivery that processed data the fastest way possible, so the pins where the bottleneck for todays CPU, as AMD increases the number of pins for more than 900 intel opted to use 775 contacts with electromgnetic noise near to zero, and with more surface of contact they can carry more electrcity wich means more wats and more MHZ.

Intel announces the 1066 MHZ front side bus on Q1 - 05 using this socket. There is no way to reach that FSB using FPGA 478
