  1. And quite possibly my last update: The parts arrived today. It took a little while, but I finally got the thing up and running. I didn't have a 64 bit OS and Vista wouldn't boot (for obvious reasons [obvious if I told that part {Will do now}]). To make file migration easier to the new HDD (1TB), I installed the old HDD as a secondary device. It found both Ubuntu and Vista. I tried booting into Vista with the expectation that it wouldn't work. It didn't. But trying to boot into Ubuntu did work, which I also expected. I am in 32-bit Ubuntu right now. I tried to burn a CD so I could install 64-bit Ubuntu, but the image was a bit too big. Back to the original update: I (eventually) got everything installed hardware wise. I had a few troubleshooting steps to take. My reset switch had to be disconnected as it was always sending a signal to the board. I didn't know anything about dual channel RAM, so I ended up re-seating the sticks. It took me five minutes to realize the PSU had two six pin connectors and one eight pin, which was the one I needed. I want to put an extra case fan in it, but Radio Shack didn't have the correct type. But the computer is up and running. 2. Just a couple more questions. I'm looking at the shopping cart, just to see what I'm facing when I'm ready to order. If I use the same email address as I did here, does that make me qualify to use, and automagically sets it to, use myCents? The topic on this says to order through Xisto - Web Hosting. Is it possible to go through Xisto? If so, will my previous posts (as in from when I first signed up) be used to calculate myCents? How would I find/select this option? Do I get a coupon for being a first time customer? How about switching hosting providers (even though the current one is shutting down)? And I assume the "Bank/Wire" payment option is the same as credit card?
  3. Alright. I looked at various other hosting providers. When it comes to price vs. features and my personal preferences, Xisto seems the most reasonable. I get paid tomorrow, or at least I should. So here soon, I'll make my final decision. Thanks.
  4. I am looking for a hosting provider as my current one is shutting down. I was looking at xisto's plans and the Logic Plan looks like a good deal compared to other hosts I seen. On the site, I see: What, exactly, is shared hosting? Also can I run two or more domains from one hosting package? I have two domains, one of which is only one day old. Plus what are the terms of conditions, in simplest form, for this hosting?
  5. I meant cheap as in not over $50, because of my budget. I am aware of off brand PSUs. I read somewhere (sparkfun.com) that a guy bought an off brand psu that was advertised as "having the quietest fans out there." He said that when he inspected the PSU after it arrived, it had no fans. When I said cheap, I was considering Office Depot, as they sell things for twice their worth. And our local WalMart no longer sells internal parts. Which basically leaves, like the flea markets or small computer repair stores. SSDs are a bit too expensive for me. If we made more money than we do, I might would get one. But my current budget won't allow it. I will definitely go WD as Seagate has a bad rep online. As for Linux, I like Xubuntu 12.04 quite well. Though my recent upgrade (the GT440) broke the install. I can get into it, it's just more effort than I like.
  6. And just to update this topic (just a few updates left, but spread over time), I am currently planning to build a new computer. I've been working with people on another forum to help find parts I need while on a budget. Assuming prices don't change in a few months (most likely they will (hopefully cheaper)), it will cost $267.43 after tax (if it's state tax (6%)). It's price before tax is $252.95. So it's right around my budget. If my student financial aid return is as much as last time, I'll definitely have enough. But do keep in mind that that price does not include: PSU, shell, monitor, mouse/keyboard, HDD, CD/DVD, Video, nor OS. I <s>can</s> should be able to find a PSU and CD/DVD drive cheap. I plan on reusing a shell, monitor, Video card, and mouse/keyboard we already have. And, until we can get a 64 bit Windows, we will use 64 bit Linux. All that leaves us with left is an HDD. 8. Let me tell you why this is inaccurate. Halo is NOT made by Microsoft. It is made by Bungee LICENSED FOR Xbox by Microsoft. I'm not saying Microsoft doesn't make their own games; look for games with Microsoft in the title (Microsoft Flight Simulator, for example). And anyone can make games for PC without needing licensed. I've made a few (crappy ones). As the next quote suggests, it's about the money. See my first reply in this post. Actually, the Xbox has different code than the PC. It's easier to port xbox games to PC because of the abundance of programming software and debugging software for PC. And getting PC games to Xbox is hard because there are no freely available programming nor debugging software. Linux for Xbox exists because some people took the time to sit down and re-write the Xbox's BIOS and the Linux code until it worked. I agree completely here. Creating emulator for PC wasn't done as an overnight project. They had to obtain a BIOS (or as I call it, Firmware) to see how the system renders games (graphics, physics, interrupts, control input, everything). Even the ones that've been around for years took a ton of debugging, alpha testing, and beta testing. And even they aren't 100% yet. You can run Linux on Xbox only because that version (of Linux) was designed specifically for Xbox (see two up). There is a huge difference between a desktop computer and any gaming console. Sure they both have input, output, memory, and a processor. But a game console was designed specifically to run games and only games. If you want a computer (game consoles are computers) that can run games extremely well, get one that will only run games (and the software required to make the games work). Here is an example of the PS2. The PS2 has: 300MHz processor, 4MB VRAM, 32MB RDRAM. My computer (before the recent video upgrade): 2.1GHz processor, 2GB DDR2 RAM, 128MB VRAM. So my computer outperforms the PS2, yes? Well, when I ran the emulator, I got crashes and low FPS. Why? Because the PS2 runs only the BIOS and the game. Whereas my computer runs: Windows, the emulator, the PS2 BIOS, its own BIOS, and the game. It also runs DropBox, Firewall, MSSE, so on and so forth. Also, the PS2 was designed with a RISC processor, which is designed to execute instructions faster than a desktop processor. The processor is also superscalar; it can execute more than one instruction at a time.
  9. I can name two sites right now that I believe are ad supported and I have an account on. But the first site I owned officially was through a P2H site. I had no ads; all I had to do was keep a positive points balance (much like KS here). Our limitation on it, though, was we had to be on a sub-domain of the hosting site. But I finally dished out 30-ish dollars and got top-level domain, paid hosting.
  10. My home town? Let me edit the question to where it applies more towards me. "What do you like most about your city? ......." I don't really live in a town. I live out in "the sticks". What I like most? I'm not sure. I will choose the terrain. I'm surrounded by trees and hills. I can sit here and watch a news station's interactive radar during a storm. It's like, "oh my God! It's coming right at us!" But as it gets nearer, it starts breaking apart and goes completely around us. And heavy winds? Knock on wood (no pun intended), the trees surrounding us slows the wind down some. The trailer we used to live in, about 100 feet away, over fifteen years old and still standing on it's cinder blocks. What I don't like, the places to go. If you live here for over five years, you run out of places to go. Movies? Been there. Parks? I live about 20 minutes from one; been there repeatedly. Food? Eaten it all. What I wouldn't change? Size. We was originally planned on being a big city. There're truck weigh stations about a mile from my house (in a direct line). The interstates are three laned. There are three interstate exits with my city labeled on them. Yet half of us live on food stamps. But our size has a large possibility of changing. They're currently planning on sending 66 through here. And if/when they do, there will be an exit just a few minutes from my house. Where am I? Laurel Co. Kentucky, USA
  11. Seeing as how my last reply is approaching three years old, I'm going to just throw an update out there. The card I replaced was a 2 MB card (no, I'm not lying). The card I replaced it with is an 8 MB. Yes, I quadrupled my video memory by installing an 8 MB card I have since gotten a new (also old) computer. I'm not sure what it's specs were, and I won't be able to tell until I dig my notes back out. We have also gotten a newer computer. It was designed as a business comp. and has a 128MB onboard graphics card. According to research, the largest card I could install without replacing the PSU is the Galaxy GeForce GT 440 2GB DDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card, which is on it's way to my house right now. This comp also has a 2.1 GHz AMD Sempron LE-1200 processor, and we doubled the RAM to 2 GB. As for the other computer mentioned in this topic, it was the motherboard. I would like to get https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-CrossFireX-NVIDIA-Motherboard-GA-Z77X-D3H/dp/B007R21KBC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370893896&sr=8-1&keywords=GA-Z77X-D3H This motherboard to replace the old one and build myself a computer. But first, I need a job so I can afford it. Here's a CPU-Z of our most powerful computer:
  12. I thought I replied in this topic before.......... Anyways.Back five years ago I guess it was, I always listened to music when I did my math homework. It made it more - enjoyable - shall we say. It made me actually feel like doing it.
  13. Thank you, thank you. And I've decided on a college. Filled out the application today, I did. I'm going to SCC - Somerset Community. I decided to go for electronics engineer.
  14. Flowcharts aren't hard. I have a program that simulates microcontrollers that you can program - PICAXE - and can even program them. It uses flowcharts, so I've dealt with them a lot.
  15. I have a hand full of 4040 ripple counters and another hand of quartz crystals. How can I set up a circuit that uses a quartz to create a clock pulse for the ripple counter. Right now I am using a 555 timer.
  16. Yea, I'm trying to learn programming. I'm no expert, but I can get what I need done. I can do basic "if...then" statements, and stuff like that.
  17. I found a 4 year old topic on it: https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081017143338AAPwlXx Another option is to completely reformat the hard drive and re-install Windows (or put a different OS on it).
  18. Yea something like that. I was thinking something along the lines of computer related stuff.
  19. I agree with everything I read here so far (all negative). All I wanted to do was install 6 GIG's of Train Sim and ended up with STEAM too. I have since uninstalled it all. And if I do recall correctly, STEAM has the right to disable your game, your copy of STEAM, and your STEAM account for any reason whatsoever.
  20. I've been preoccupied with other stuff. So here is a quick rundown:I graduated high school this past Friday, I plan on making a 300 watt flashlight, I took an AP Physics class....twice, my knowledge in electronics is still increasing. What else? I just took an hour trying to log in here - the facebook button keeps giving an error and I didn't remember my credentials. Also, Linux Xubuntu is now my favorite OS, my birthday is in a few days (6). And except for static, I have not gotten any electrical shocks recently. And lets leave it at that for now.
  21. That should work. And that's what i suggested you do. That was my reasoning. Someone else just told you first. But if it doesn't work, at least you already have one that does.
  22. I haven't used NERO in a while for certain reasons, but if I am correct, shouldn't you just burn the folder to the disc? The reason I quit using Nero is becausea: The only PC in my house that has it is down, andb: I can't find the install disc.It sucks that I cant run Nero at the moment. But as I said, as far as I'm aware, you should only need to burn the video_ts folder with all files inside to the dvd.
  23. I am too lazy to find the post right now to quote, but the flash intro. It is, how shall i say, odd. It goes from orange-red to light blue instantly. I would make my own and propose it, but I have no flash experience, and have no 500 bucks to pay for a program. My suggestion is to try another shade of blue, instead of orange-red. Isn't the inverted color of blue red? Yes it is.
  24. My name is Joe and this is my rap, I hate your face and you smell like crap, You tried to set me up you made your trap, Now I'm here to set you back. (rest coming later)

You just say your words, though they are bad. But the sound of your voice is what makes me sad. We all know my rhymes are iron clad. If your name was Luke, I wouldn't be your dad. *Star Wars referance*

  25. I need help finding songs about running to put to QWOP, the world hardest running game. The songs need to be well known and as early as the 80's. So far I've used "I Ran" by A Flock of Seagulls, "Run to the Hills" by Iron Maiden, "Little Runaway" by Bon Jovi, "Runnin' Down A Dream" by Tom Petty, and I'm looking for more in my music collection. I'm doing this for irony, as no one in my house has beaten "QWOP".If you've not played "QWOP" yet, go do it. It may help you help me for selecting songs.
