The goal of this topic is to discuss the possible reasons that might have caused the very small amount of new posts in Xisto lately. This post contains the suggestion to think about several reasons, that might have caused the lack of inspiration and willingness to post in this forum.

This post contains the following way of reasoning. First several reasons to post are summed up. The idea behind posting this list is that the lack of posts does probably depend on the lack of these reasons to post in here.

It is possible to start  topic and to post about an issue somebody might have. And it is possible to ask for help to solve the issue and to ask for possible solutions, that might solve the problem. In this way the forum acts in a way like a digital help desk.

This forum provides a small amount of tutorials. A tutorial can be seen as a sort of information about how to handle a situation.

It is possible to post a tutorial about a way to use a program and a device. The content of the topic can act like a reminder and a tutorial for the original poster about the way to use the program and the device.

It seems some confusion rose because the idea behind the choice of this subforum to start the topic about the traffic and the amount of visitors and posts is that the forum is reached by a computer.

Nevertheless there might be a better subforum to continue with the thoughts about the current state of the forum, the reasons of the small amount of posts in recent times and the options to deal with the current situation.

Please go on, post a couple of topics concerning the latest develepments in computer science. Please tell us about the current and the next devices.

Please explain us why a 4-cpu tablets, when used for gaming, is more comfortable than the 2-cpu gaming tablets.

Please tell us if the intensive use of the cloud facilities will blow out the available bandwidth on the antennas and the network infastructures.

Please explain us how to to create a steam machine the interesting way, starting with a cheap PC and adding only the necessary devices.

And of course, all of us know that the tablets will disapear very soon, each of us will have virtual reality glasses giving a standardly giant display instead of the small 10-inch or 14-inch tablets. And no need of huring my fingers while pressing too intensively my tablet, simply thinking will interact with my computer, which will not be a silicon one, of course, all organic in order to have it flexible and naturally waterproof.

Please tell us a little bit about the future of the databases, what should we do when all the reliable free relational database engines start being available, having to be purchased from the single ones on the market?

And what about the big data system being able to learn your behaviour and see what you are thinking?

I can shed enlightenment on what has hit Xisto pretty hard, or maybe I can not?

So I may metaphorically speak it, The search giant Goliath versus David in which the giant changed tactics to avoid sending villagers to David. This hit David pretty hard and now lots of the villagers David use to get have migrated elsewhere. Somehow they are now reaching different parts of the Earth and not directed towards David no more. Thank you mighty search giant.

I also believe a lack of attention comes this way too, this place could do with same vast changes, including the main Xisto home page which little has changed when I first registered here in 2004 and was one of the first 30 members and I am still the longest surviving member that visits here.

Back then, times were good, little information existed and it was a gold mine for posting topics. A lot of my topics I remember writing here however vanished and with mishaps like that, a lot of the work I did was pretty much off the top of my head and straight to forum posting, so no backup of what I wrote exists. I could write it again and improve on it with more knowledge that I have gained, but that motivation isn't there anymore.

Ok my 2 cents worth, on the part about the post being off topic, I have seen many many posts off topic in these forums over the years, wither this one is or isn't is not the real problem we have here. So that isn't even worth worrying about. As slow as it's been here I'm glad to see any posts anywhere. Which brings us right back to the original topic of slow traffic.

Fila has done an excellent job of listing why people should post here. She touches on all the reasons I hang out here for sure. Of course to me the big ones are the free web hosting, and second is probably when I do have a computer type problem, back when the forums were really active I could count on an answer to what ever was driving me crazy at that time to be post in short order. I have no computer experts around me to help, everything I have done on the computer has had to be figured out the hard way, usually pushing keys and clicking until something worked. So I have been very great full for this site. I do hate to see it so slow these days.

Now, for myself, I have been gone from here for a couple months. My reason are simply that life has just been too hectic for me. Spring is always my busy season anyway, and this year it just ran longer than normal. Have undergone a change in hired hands, training new ones is always time consuming, and we got behind on a lot of our projects when one of our last helpers started being more absent then here working, we tried to cut him some slack hoping he would get his head out of his *bottom* but that didn't happen. I could go way off topic at this point and start a rant about how in the hell can people let drugs and alcohol take control of their lives and let them ruin their lives but I won't do that right now, will save it for another post.

I can only speak for myself. I don't know about the effects of search engines and all that. I'd just like to see this forum get back to the way it used to be.

However,, I have a comment, it's really very far away from the topic "the condition of Xisto.com", and I really don't see how this can fit the purpose of the "computer talk" section.
