Winter Wonderland My------------

Oh man it is rough out there! Just came back in from trying to clear some snow and make tracks to walk in to get to the dogs. The snow is really getting deep already, and it's supposed to snow all day today. Have a drift right in front of the kennel already over a foot deep. What shocked me was how badly the snow is blowing. The backside of the kennel building is covered with a roof, but open on both ends, it's 60 feet long and every inch of the concrete back there has snow cover on it. That is some pretty serious snow blowing. And a lot of shoveling for me later today. Even my 4 wheeler which was parked inside our garage had snow on the seat. I had a hard time getting around on the 4 wheeler, thank god it has new tires or I'd of never even made it back to the house, I barely did as it was. People who like this kind of weather definitely don't have animals that have to be taken care of. I sure wish we would of got one of the hay bales unloaded yesterday and not have to fight the snow to do it today. At least the bales are on a trailer behind a 4 wheel drive pickup. But as cold as it is out there you'll be frozen just in the time it takes to clear the windshield off to see to drop off the hay. I know because I had to clear off the car windows before hubby ventured off to town awhile ago. Of course last night before it started freezing we had a little drizzle of rain, so there is a nice thin coat of ice on under the snow too.

I feel bad for our house dogs, I had to clipper them down the other day to get ready for vacation. The little mini doesn't want much of anything to do with the great outdoors, she runs out, does her business and is back scratching at the door in under 2 minutes. Of course, my crazy dog doesn't care what the weather is doing, she is going to be near me come hell or high water. She insists on chasing the 4 wheeler, which today worried me more than it normally does, since I couldn't exactly steer or stop real well. But she was just bouncing all over the place anyway. I had to lock her in the bathroom when we came back in the house, she was one real snow bunny. Of course, I didn't get her in there until after she jumped up on the old mans chair......I'm sure he will have unkind words to say about that when he gets home, which I hope is soon, worry about him being out and about in this kind of weather.

Looks like I will be in and out of here a lot today. Can only take so much of that cold at a time. Going to have to dig out more cold weather clothes too before I venture back out for the next round.

Meanwhile in London, KY: It's 53F outside and snow nowhere. It almost feels like Spring. A lot of people are complaining about the abundance of snow falling where they live; I'm complaining about the lack thereof. The only water that froze up here is what's in our pool. I'd like to get some snow, but not a whole lot. Two inches at least.

But as you made clear (at least to me, anyway), I agree with. Having a ton of snow sucks also. I remember a few years ago, we went over to my granny's house for a while and it was raining. The water froze to solid ice an inch thick. The driveway out was uphill. We had to throw sticks and mud under the tires to get traction.

I think it was the same year, the school bus was about ten minutes from our stop. There was no snow whatsoever on the ground. After we got off and got home, mom said we was going to take a trip to Tennessee and to hurry and get our things so we could get out before the snow got too thick. Within twenty minutes, everything was buried in snow. They ended up closing part of the interstate.

Yea, too much snow is no good whatsoever. I 'm on several Face Book pages, one of them is a give away page, I thought about putting up a post for free snow, come and get all you want, but figured they'd get mad at me. Maybe even throw rocks at me if they had a chance. It has been a challenging day, but turned out better than I had hoped originally it would. We had to go get the hired help, they have a van with slick tires, but at least we got them here and everybody got feed and watered and taken care of. Bet the goats were happy to see that bale of hay! We actually have a little pasture left, but it's all covered in snow now. Without some hay, goats and cattle will expend more energy pawing threw the snow to get to the grass than they get energy from the grass they are able to paw up.

Our poor little mini schnauzer spent the whole afternoon completely under my couch blanket. She normally leaves her head out but not today, she curled up completely out of site. I was a bit surprised thought when she actually wanted to go back outside with me this evening when I went down to make the final check for the night. Of course in this blue cold 2 dogs just had to have pups. One last night and one this afternoon. I've got them buttoned up pretty good, I'm sure they will be fine. Had to go threw my old heating pads to find some working ones, there is not a heat lamp bulb anywhere in this town to be purchased today.

where i live snow does not land and even when it does it is away in a few hours,

i am sorry to hear about the snow getting to much for you SD, May it be away soon, and you being able to get out to your dogs,

More and more snow. At least it wasn't as deep this time. And thank God I live in an area of the country that is equipped to deal with it. It was hard to watch the news about Atlanta Georgia and watch all those people stuck because of 2 inches of snow. Yea, ok, there was some ice under it be geeze, 2 inches? the whole freeway system gridlocked. Some of those folks had to sit in their cars for 20 hours or more. Even some school busses full of kids got stuck out. I would NOT of wanted to be on one of those busses! I want my mommy, I gotta go pee, gads, what a disaster that would of been! One good guy in the group, a brain surgeon was stuck when the hospital called him because a patient was in desperate need, had a bleeder on the brain, and that surgeon actually walked 6 miles back to the hospital to do the surgery on the guy, saving his life. Now there is a dedicated doctor!

We really haven't let the snow keep us home much. Our hired man has a big slick tired van, so if it's real bad we have to get out to go get him. His van is helpless in this stuff. So no rest for the wicked around here. I finally found some regular heat lamp bulbs, and also some regular 90 watt bulbs too. I was glad to see them, I was afraid that we would no longer be able to get those, they would rather have us us the ones filled with deadly poisonous mercury that don't use as much electricity.

The dogs aren't minding the snow near as much as I am. We keep their dog houses all bedded down and keep it changed as needed, which is a rather daunting job, since the dogs would rather drag their bedding out and play with it than sleep on it. Of course when they get it out it gets snow on it or wet and has to be changed out, and they seem to pull it out faster than we can put it back it. It can become quite the challenge. I can't wait for spring this year. Even if it does mean all that extra work I usually dread.

This has really been a miserable winter. Still no end in site. And now we have the gas companies giving us a royal screwing, propane is up to $5 a gallon in many places. It seems they exported it to some other countries and don't have enough here for us, so they are gouging the daylights out of their US customers. That has me royally ticked off. Fortunately we still have some left at the kennel. But we ran out at the house over a week ago. There is no way I'm giving those thieves $5 a gallon when we live in the woods and own a chain saw! Granted, being old and fat isn't exactly conducive to cutting and hauling wood, but it beats the alternative, which is freezing or paying the thugs $5 a gallon. We cut several little trailer loads today, did ok until the last load when we were trying to get it to the house and got stuck in the mud with the 4 wheeler. Tried pulling the hubbies 4 wheeler with a chain and my 4 wheeler, that didn't even work, so I ended up having to unload over half the wood I'd already put in the trailer twice. ( the catch that keeps the trailer from dumping had already slipped once and dumped half the load.) So I am really tired and sore tonight.

well i save the 5 SD By not driving and getting my ma to drive me places,

as for the rest SD I Have never done any of that stuff sounds fun is it a job btw (wood chopping) or just a part of country life.

Oddly, I don't mind the actual job. I rather enjoy being out in the woods where it might be peaceful and quiet if it wasn't for the roaring of the chain saw.

It is extremely tiring though, some of those rounds off the log probably weigh 50 lbs. or more and lifting them up into the trailer and wrestling them around so it all fits is no job for a weakling.

Hubby has been letting me run the saw a little here lately. That can be a bit nerve wracking. Those things are bloody dangerous. Let your foot slip or loose your concentration for just a second and you would be in a world of hurt.
