Having Pets Around

Recommended Posts

I personally feel having pets around is a very nice thing. Specially while in a small family or when someone is living all alone away from their family, pets can fill in the gap. Though they cannot speak like we do but they do have various ways of expressing their feelings towards us. When you come home after a long day's work they would show how happy they are to see you by jumping on you. They would show they are hurt when they whimper in pain or they are angry when they growl.

They can be our friend in need and also protect us while we are in danger. Though sometimes we might underestimate an animal but they are very very sensitive to their owners physical and mental state. They very well understand when their owner is sad, or upset or worried. As they cannot speak they wont verbally empathize with us but they would surely show us how much they love us by sitting next to us or licking us. Pets can complete a family and also be wonderful friends for life.

I agree. :D When I go home from school, our dog will always wag his (yes, I refer to our dog as he/his/him) tail excitedly. He even stamps his feet fast when he sees me. :) It's like he's saying "Oh, welcome home!". Sometimes, he's sleepy when I get home but he will always look at me and wag his tail. He really likes having his head touched. Whenever I'm so tired, he'll stare at me like he's asking "Hey, what's wrong?". He'll jump into me when he's really really excited, . When he needs something, he'll bark to get our attention. Last night, he kept on barking. It was already midnight and I wondered what's wrong since it's unusual for him to keep on barking at that time. Then when I went downstairs to see him, he kept on panting and walking around. I gave him water and I shocked to see him drink it fast. ^_^

I once caught him letting our neighbors' cat eat his leftovers. But when he realized I was looking, he suddenly barked at the cat.

Before, we gave him a metal food plate. He kept on barking and barking at it. He even poked it then ran away when it made a noise. We didn't know what's wrong. Then we realized that he's barking at his reflection on the metal. He's such an innocent dog but I really love him. :P

Oh! yes they have different style of expressing their feelings and emotions. My Dog used to love bread. Early morning when he knew my dad was awake he would move around him and when my dad would ask "What happened?" he would jump on him and look at the bread. The moment he would get the bread he would run here and there in the house to show how happy he was. He used to love being pampered. After coming back from work in the evening when i used to give him his meal. He would just look at his bowl full of food and sit down looking at me. When I would ask him to eat, he would again look at the food and come near me and with his mouth he would lick my hand in a gesture to ask me to feed him. Sometimes when i used to be tired and tell him i would not feed him and today he would have to eat on his own he would leave the food and come and sit next to me. He was also very intelligent he very well knew who were our people and who were outsiders. Even if our friends came home for the first time he would welcome them with much love but strangers he would growl and not allow them in. I miss my dog a lot.

That's nice. :D Dogs are really caring, aren't they? They're always loyal to their owners. I haven't seen a dog that has a bad relationship with his owner. They are good friends too. That's why I love dogs the most. :)

I miss my dog a lot.

Why? Where's your dog?

We had to give him away due to some issue  . He was a Labrador retriever we had named him Oscar  almost been with us for 3 years. We bought him home when he was 1 1/2 month old since then he's been our baby  . He loved home made food. Never had any issues with food stuff. And he was crazy for ice-creams and chocolates :) .

Woah! Because of what you've said, I miss having a cat. ^_^ When I was in my hometown, our dogs and cats get along well too.
They always play but there are times that they fight too. I find it kinda funny when they just had a fight then after a few minutes, they'll be friends again. :D

Oh, I see. Ummm... to whom did you give him?
I'm glad that your dog never had any issues with food too. :D I've seen some dogs that are really picky when it comes to food.
My dog's a Shih Tzu. When we bought him, we named him Nikko. The next day, the previous owner informed us that his name is Hatchi. So we decided to combine both = Nikko Hatchi. His name sounds like Japanese. He's crazy with biscuits and some junk foods. :D

Unlike human beings, the pet animals are really true in their feelings, they doesn't know how to cheat their master. They will make us forget everything happening around us and will take us to a different world of emotions, which are unadulterated. And in some places, they help to treat psychologically affected children and adults. Doctors have noticed a lot of improvement with the patients after they are allowed to socialize with the pet animals. So always they are man’s best friends. They always fill a vacant place in our life in some or the other way. I would also suggest at this point that people should come forward to take and raise the street dogs as their pets after proper medical measures. This would be a great service and it will be most suited for our weather conditions here.

I too must say it is a pleasure having pets around.

The first point I was going to make is just as sharmiladevi states above: when an animal shows you it loves you, you can be sure that sign of affection is 100% genuine and heartfelt, unlike some people, who will smile in your face, and when your back is turned, they will stick a knife in it (a figure of speech in most cases, thank goodness).

They can also (another valid point of sharmiladevi) prove to be of therapeutic value, it is true that the company of their beloved pet can prove to be of therapeutic benefit to certain patients, especially because of the love and emotions those contacts can generate.

I also know of some places where they have bought and trained a dog (in both cases a golden retriever, just like those are often chosen as guide dogs for the blind, among other things), in one case the department of palliative care in a hospital (the department where people are staying who are dying, who are kept in the hospital to make there last months/weeks/days on this earth as pleasant as possible), in the other case the dog was acquired in an old peoples' home, where the inhabitants who so desire, can have some time with the dog, which can be a sort of "pleasure therapy", where the friendly vibrations between the human and animal generate a sense of pleasure for the patients, thus pushing the negative thoughts to the back of their minds for a while.

I have even seen something (on the television news) about a person who was in the palliative care unit, and he had requested to have his own pet dog with him in the hospital, a request which was granted to him, I thought it was a great decision by the hospital.

Then, there is also the other side of the coin (it is not a pleasant one, I know, but I feel it must be said): so far I have talked about the animal giving the human love, friendship and pleasure, and even support in thir dying days).

However, when a pet has reached the end of its life, in a way where nothing further can be done for it medically, and the only solution is to make sure it does not have to suffer unnecessarily, please, do not run away from your responsibilities and let your pet down in its last minutes, only to avoid the pain of saying goodbye (and, yes, it DOES cause pain, a lot of pain sometimes).

However, do not let your pet down, the one who has given you his unconditional love and loyalty for who knows how many years.

What I mean is: stay with the poor animal until at least he has had the sedative before the final injection, the dog will see you are there and feel much more comfortable, thinking "my owner is here with me, so everything is all right".

But, PLEASE, do not run away cowardly from your responsibilities, only to avoid the pain you will undoubtedly feel at the letting go of your pet.

Believe me, if you do decide to do that, there might be a time of torture when you will say "I wish I had been there with my pet" or "I wonder if my pet went peacefully", and believe me, these thoughts can cause more pain than being there when your pet goes out peacefully and painlessly, feeling comfortable because of the thought of its master being present.

Never forget what your pet has given you without ever asking for anything in return.

I know, the last bit of my post contains some morbid words, and I do apologise if I have upset anyone or have caused anyoneany discomfort by them, nevertheless, I think they had to be said because they do make a lot of sense.

I like having pets around because they love you unconditionally. My dog is always happy to see me when I get home, and it makes me feel a lot better. She does get annoying at times, though, as she likes to bark at anything and everything (birds, people, cars), but at the same time that can also be seen as a sense of security, knowing that if anything comes near us she'll notify me.

Yes After you have a pet around and then you have to lose them for some reason.. life becomes a little difficult because we're so used to having pets at home. If you're a working person you might be fine until then as you are busy for that many hours but the moment you get home you can actually feel so lonely. It's been a month now that my pet is not with us and while i am at work it's fine but the moment i am back home i really start missing him so much. Or if i see another dog with it's owner on the road it always reminds me of my pet. Truly pets can make sucha big difference in our life and they can also be best friends for life.

Yes pets can teach us a lot. Specially we can learn how to love unconditionally from them :) . They never demand anything like human beings, just show them that you love them and that's all they require. My dog never liked my dad shouting at him. Until he pampers him, he was fine but the moment my dad used to shout at him he would be very upset. Then he would go and sit in a corner with his head down until my dad called him. He would sit and pretend as if he is sleeping but when my dad would pass by or speak to us he would open his one eye slowly and watch if he is coming to say sorry. When we used to call him saying "Oscar what happened?" he would give a deaf ear to us. But the moment my dad would take his name he would get up and go running to him, wagging his tail and licking my dad all over. He used to jump and bark in a gesture of saying "Sorry". My whenever i speak about him it's like a never ending topic and I miss him so much :(:wacko:

We all know that our pets give us unconditional love and companionship, but what many people don't realize is that there are many health benifits for pet owners too. Scientific studies have proven that pet owners live longer, and stay healthy longer in their older years than non pet owners. Part of which I do beleive stems from the fact that our pets give us a purpose in life, we have to get up and take care of them when there are some days when we would rather stay in bed and do nothing. Going out and walking your dog also give the human partner exercise that increase one's health. It has also been proven that in household with children, those with pets actually have less allergies and other health problems when there has been a pet in the home since the birth of the child. Scientists claim this is due to the child being exposed to the pathogens on the animals which make the immune system of the child kick into gear at an earlier age which protect the child throughout their entire lives

I don't really have "pets" per se, but my home is full with all sorts of animals. I have a hamster, birds (canaries, zebra finches, java sparrows, fischer's lovebirds, cockatiels) and i have 3 fish tanks. Without them around i would have lost my mind, I have been living alone for a year now, and I'm not used to it. I grew up in a big family but they all immigrated and I'm waiting for my papers, through my wife who's far from me too.
