Necessity Of Phonetics

Recommended Posts

You know what guys, after completing my high school, I decided, would better say realised that my innate interest was in English literature. My father was very happy to hear that and I was showered with encouragement. Then I proceeded to attain my Bachelor's Degree, where I had to get through 9 over-burdening papers, one of them was Language and Linguistics. I was ignorant of the fact that it was to prove a nightmare for me, as I started to put in a glance, the prescribed book had me ashen my face, It was time to face the truth.A literature aspirant was scared to even look at the structural base of the language. As a breath of relief, it was announced that a new paper has been introduced, which was an alternative for the phonetic part. I couldn't feel happier , here comes the question as to what was so nightmarish? The phonological part has included in it elaborate scientific mechanisms that take place inside the mouth to produce sound. The descriptions were so confusing that running away from home seemed to be an easier option. There wasn't anyone who could guide me through. But I had little to worry as I had chosen the alternative. After sailing through, I aspired to pursue Master's. I had no idea that this time there wasn't a chance to escape ,as it was mandatory to have the phonetic section. So, no options and I had to dig into the science.Quite unbelievably I found out that phonetics can make you grab a different level of the language altogether. I could now analyse why a word spelt or was pronounced in a particular manner. Other important features were accent and stress and how I find it helpful is amazing. Later when I started to work as a communication trainer, the help was forwarded to several recipients and they admitted about the benefits. The lesson that I learned was the same as the saying goes

"Never judge a book by its cover."
