Windows 7 Update Problem Seems limited in numbers

I use Windows 7 Ultimate, and I have noticed something which seems to be an update problem.I have my updates set as "Automatic", ie. Windows 7 looks for and downloads and installs Windows 7 updates automatically.However, I have noticed a few times that, when I have a considerable amount of updates waiting, the downloading and installing of updates usually fails.Now, for example, I had 15 updates, and all but one failed.When I install them separately (one by one) it does eem to do the trick, but that is, of course, hardly automatic, is it?Now, I would like to know if this might be a fault in the Windows Update settings, or if there might be another reason, and more importantly, if there is anything I can do against it.Has anyone ever come across something like that?As I mentioned before, it only seems to happen when there are a considerable amount of updates available, not in case of just 2 or 3, it appears.I would be very pleased if someone could enlighten me regarding this problem.Thank you in advance.

It happened to me twice. I think there would be an update labled something like 'SP1' that is the service pack. Try installing that and your problem would be fixed.

you can try this first
Open the Windows Update troubleshooter by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under System and Security, click Fix problems with Windows Update.

Did you accept the Microsoft Software License Terms? Install the update again and review and accept the license terms.

1. Review any error messages.


2. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button. In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update.


3. Accept the license terms, and wait to see if the update is installed successfully.


4. If an error message about license terms or cancelled updates is displayed, click Try again, and wait until you are prompted to review the license terms.

Were you installing a driver update? Driver updates for devices such as video cards can occasionally cause errors because the files being installed are corrupt or aren't the correct files for your version of Windows. Windows Update should provide you with the most up-to-date drivers for your verison of Windows. Did you cancel the installation process or disconnect from the Internet? It's fine if you did. Just check for updates again and install any updates that were cancelled or interrupted.

Is there enough free disk space on your computer? If you need more free space on your hard disk, you might need to uninstall programs, delete your temporary Internet files, delete files that you don't use, or empty the Recycle Bin, and then try again to install updates.


What else can I do? If the previous questions don't address the problem, you can learn more about what happened and what to do next by reviewing any error messages that are displayed in Windows Update.


Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button. In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update.

Darkyo13, I have ran the Troubleshooter, and it said it has made some changes to my system (without specifying which ones, of course, but that's Microdoft for you).

Of course, since I received 7 updates this morning (and, yes, I did them one by one, just to be on the safe side ), I have no way of checking whether that made any difference until I get my next lot of updates.
However, I will post back here and keep you informed.

Although this is what you suggested as the next step in the solutions if the first one does not work, I am not 100% sure what you mean.To be a bit clearer: I have, so far, as far as I can remember, never had any updates via Windows Update where I had to accept a licence agreement (except maybe a big one like SP1, but cannot remember this as it is too long ago), I know, before Windows Update, when you could download updates manually you had the boxes "I agree" and "I do not agree" when you ran setup, but now, it seems that Microsoft are satisfied with the fact that you have accepted your Windows 7 licence agreement and have subjected yourself to a check for genuine software prior to updating Windows.

So, that is it in a nutshell then.
All i need to do now is wait for a next set of updates.
Also, regarding error messages: the only one I get is "Failed" in the list of updates, without any further specification.

However, I shall take it from here now and look what happens.

Had trouble downloading any updates after SP1 install, it said 0% downloaded and stayed there.

Solution: used system restore to roll back to as early as possible before installing SP1. The network didn't work then either, so ran "sfc /scannow" to repair dll's and network started working again. Hid the SP1 update to be safe in the future.

It happened to me twice. I think there would be an update labled something like 'SP1' that is the service pack. Try installing that and your problem would be fixed.

hello, there are no problems with updates in windows7, i can download any updates by active windows updates, but the problem with sp1 file, its showing 78mb in update, but i notice when i downloaded this file size is more then 500mb and after downloaded this file my system goes hang. can anyone give me the direct link of sp1 setup file? so i can download it manually..
