What Is You Favorite Mobile Phone Platform?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I personally have used two phones so far, one is nokia n72 running on an old and outdated version of symbian platform and the other one is samsung star superb having samsung proprietary os, and to be frank, I wasn't really impressed with any one of the two. I am basically a hardcore user, then whether it comes to mobile phones or computers, I use them upto their limitations. And, the main advantage and probably the only one which I found while using my n72 running on symbian platform was that there are more softwares available for nokia n72, but, on the other found, the software availability for samsung proprietary os was really limited. But, there are more platforms or os available for mobile phones also like android, palm os, blackberry os, etc. so, which one is your favorite??Hopefully, after seeing your experiences with other mobile platforms, I will be able to make a better choice, as I currently looking for my next phone, really unfortunate...Waiting for your replies :)Thanks in advance :)

Try Apple's iPhone iOS, it's the only one I have used for a long time (other than "normal" phones) and I don't see any need to change from it. It's top of the line and it's actually one of the original ones. They also have updates like every 3-4 months. The App store is big and packed too, and most of the apps are only $.99 cents. It's the best one out there if you ask me.

Hmmmm....iphone...how can I forget to mention about the magical iphone and its ios <_<
Definitely i would like to try that, but, the problem is its not possible for me to buy iphone at the moment. Iphone is very- very costly here in India and it will take too much time for me to collect enough funds. Probably, in future if I get descent earnings I could buy and try that.....
Also, if I am not wrong, Iphone 4 is still not launched in India...and the price of iphone 3gs is more than $600. So, kinda impossible for me to buy that.....

Wish in future things will change :)

By the way, thanks for reply :)

It's not about favorite or something. It's about getting work done and developers finding any platform easy to develop and sell apps. I think symbian and android are having battle these days. Samsung and LG already sold to android platform. I think even nokia developed one phone under android. Sony is sticking with symbian. So i think it's just matter of apps and users finding it convenient. This will be viewed as operating system fights which is useless. just develop multi-platform apps and reap the rewards. being loyal to any platform or defending it is unproductive. Just my opinion nothing to do with original topic.

Android.....at the moment, is my first choice rather than symbian, android is progressing much faster than symbian. But, since I haven't use android either, I can't say much about it.

Samsung also has developed its BADA OS, and the only samsung phones using this os are probably Galaxy S and Samsung Wave, please correct me if I am wrong. BADA OS is also looking good.

And, I don't know if Nokia developed any phone using android, but, it definitely developed a phone nokia n900 on maemo platform. The market is now flooded with options and hopefully will be flooded with more in near future and that will ultimately benefit all of us....so my kind request to developers of all mobile platforms is to keep battling against other, and while competing keep reducing the price for end user......

Galaxy S is an android smartphone. The super AMOLED screen is the best after iPhone's "Retina Display". Ah.. I do not like the way Apple keeps on registering trademarks on everything it has. Do you know apple has successfully registered trademark for "There's an app for that". That is ridiculous. They are registering trademarks on such common words. Its like these companies are slowly consuming the dictionary.

Coming to the topic, I would bring my view about mobile platform from a developers point of view:

For a developer who would love to develop apps, android is the best and also symbian/maemo based devices. But after the recent agreement between Oracle and IBM on development of Java with no mention of support to android and Oracle suing Google, the future of android would be different. Although Java has matured enough, the Google has to now bring in its own team of coders to develop Java and be able to develop android.

Apple iOS is definitely good, with great opportunity to make money on developing apps for it. But its Apple's completely proprietary nature might not go well with developers.

About my opinion, I would go with Symbian/Maemo platform. And the unification of Intel's moblin and Nokia's Maemo into Meego and coupled with coding with Qt Libraries, anyone would love to code for it.

my favorite platform was symbian os till the android came. symbian is very light weighted operating system a mobile phone can have and it's very useful with softwares like office and pdf viewer and multimedia players but when it comes to android the story is different. i liked wm many years ago but the lack of regular update is the biggest issue with windows mobile and this is why i went for symbian but after release of the android i changed my favorite platform. android is somthing like the windows mobile today should be but it isn't with a big difference. Android is OPEN SOURCE which means you can do anything with your phone. Today every game or software that release for wm or ios4 or symbian will have a android version and this shows the popularity of this platform.

I agree with you iniyila, android os is now a very popular mobile phone platform and considering the facts that its open source and a lot of software are available for this platform, its my favorite mobile phone platform too at the moment :)
And, also if I am not wrong then android os versions are upgradable to the latest version directly from the phone which is absent in symbian os....??

Symbian already released this option but it is upto mobile vendor to implement this. Sony erricson phones have update feature in all of their phones. I have updated my OS plenty of times and it runs symbian. Almost every mobile platform today has this feature.

Android.....at the moment, is my first choice rather than symbian, android is progressing much faster than symbian. But, since I haven't use android either, I can't say much about it.

Considering google behind the android project i'll be cautious on what they update on my mobile phone. So no matter what features they bring up it always worries me what they have in mind behind that. I don't go with market and trend to decide how good software is. Even ipad is selling like hot cakes but that doesn't mean it has good hardware and software if you read the critics.

so my kind request to developers of all mobile platforms is to keep battling against other, and while competing keep reducing the price for end user......

Price reduction happens because of manufacturing cost and has nothing to do with software costs especially if the software is free. Price comes down if any mobile vendor brings new feature that threatens competition.

Seems to be a war between Apple's Iphone OS and Android. For the Battery Life the iPhone beats the Android devices. Don't get me wrong, Android devices comes packed with great feature, but by doing this it looses out on battery Life. Both are great when it comes to multi-tasking. The android is better when it comes to Speech to text but the iPhone has a better release and update consistency. Android devices are more customization and has great integration with Google Apps. When you look at your personal choices, I believe that the Android devices are better suited for everyone. But that's my opinion. Don't want to get on anyone's bad side, especially the iPhone lovers.
