Forum Managements After V3 Upgrade

I'd like to ask you if it would be better idea to bring SPAM TOPICS and STAFF to new section of the forum and place it near the top of the page?Staff section seems to be under used since the last forum upgrade. Either that, we really have nothing to do but comb through spam topics... ha ha ha

anwiii

well personally, i would like to see those categories on the very top or very bottom of the page. also, what deadmad said makes sense. eventually, i think all the categories and sections need to be reorganized. i don't necessarily think that low posts count categories need to be on top of the page. i just think everything can be better organized with moderator categories being either on top or on the bottom for easier navigation

truefusion

Thanks to multi-moderation, i think the only benefit to having the spam forum be brought up is to "revive" topics from it quicker. Bringing the Staff forum up would also mean quicker access from the index page and forum drop-down navigation. Concerning new topics or posts from the Staff forum, they would always show up on the latest topics and latest posts sections for staff members. Not sure if they still do now for the new forum upgrade, but if they do, i would say the only benefit for it being near the top again would be for what i already mentioned for it. I can't really say if an entire forum reorganization should be recommended, though. I haven't read what deadmad7 posted about this, but right now i don't see how one would organize things better.

BuffaloHelp

OpaQue is doing the order of forum section (what appears at the top) and so that is up to him.I thought I'll group Staff and Spam Section and bring this group to the top for mods to see. We'll see...

BuffaloHelp

Changed admin bar (at top) to a bigger font size.

ACP > System > Look & Feel > CSS > ipb_styles.css

#admin_bar { background: #2e2e2e url({style_images_url}/gradient_bg.png) repeat-x 50%; color: #d2d2d2; font-size: 0.9em; padding: 7px; height: 14px;}

The original value was font-size: 0.8em; (if OpaQue disapproves and wants to change it back)

truefusion

Since you have direct access to the forum's stylesheet, any chance of changing the background color of the side info that is to the left of each post to match the same color as the background color of where the Report and other moderation buttons are? Appears to be #E4EBF3. Just want to know if it'll make posts easier to follow.

I agree. I will look into it. I hope it's within some DIV tag that I can simply change it to a color with a single change.

On top of reorganizing categories some of them need to go as well, I had made mention to OpaQue which ones need to go.Hosting Request ForumsXisto.netArmy SystemAs for organizationXisto - Web HostingQuipisXisto AnswersHealth and Wellnessand other xisto related forums need to be group together as well instead of all that separation.As for the Staff and Spamm forums push them to the bottom.

Change the notification to red? Since this forum is so in tuned with facebook, why not copy the notification color? :)

I'm not going to be using facebook with part of these forums, so if that is only visible do to facebook integration, then have fun with the colors. Nevertheless, the color should reflect the importance or significance of the notification.

On a different note, i have noticed "inline notifications" and have made just about every notification an inline notification, including reports (that red text at the top is so not an attention grabber).

I wish it can **slow blink** if there's a report waiting... that should get our attention.

The contrasting color will also do--like yellow or perhaps redder red?

text-decoration: blink;
However, depending on the forum's code, it may blink the entire admin bar.

Also, is there a way to change the background color of unapproved topics? When viewing them, they look like regular topics, and one would even think so if they didn't already know it was unapproved.

BuffaloHelp

I will work on the unapproved/invisible color distinction.I made the ACTIVE REPORTS blinking and bold. I hope OpaQue doesn't flip :) ha ha ha. How is it?RATS!!!! Under IE8 it does not blink...

#admin_bar { background: #2e2e2e url({style_images_url}/gradient_bg.png) repeat-x 50%; color: #d2d2d2; font-size: 0.9em; /* modified */ padding: 7px; height: 14px;} #admin_bar li { color: #767676; padding: 0 3px 0 5px; } #admin_bar li.active, #admin_bar li.active a { color: #e74242; font-weight:bold; /* added */ text-decoration: blink; }

BuffaloHelp

Unapproved/Invisible topic is in light pink color. That's the default. Is that not visible enough? What do you think?

See the samples here

scroll down to see few invisible topics

Additional Note

BB codes page have been changed. You can find it in my sig OR when you go to create a new topic or post using Add Reply, check out the BB code link.

I meant when you are inside the topic viewing the topic: the first post within the topic is no longer a different color (e.g. see here). However, it seems that unapproved posts do have a different color (e.g. here).

BuffaloHelp

Yes. I see what you mean. I will bring that up with OpaQue to see if it's just a forum CSS thing or more coding for the core script.

From OpaQue

I recieved several spam reports in my e-mail. hence i decided to force mod logins as anonymous. However, the BBcode acting funky is NEWS. If I meet you online, we can perform some tests together, if u have time. :)
also there is one more news. the ibp3 has changed the way the posts inside are tracked. After applying my generous code on the new system.. u will be surprised that you had credits like 750 usd. So, a complete recalculation will not be performed to save myself from going bankkrupt. lol.

The new coding works in a syncronous model which will help me manage mass number of members (& their calculations) rapidly and effectively with permanent edit feature with very low CPU load. I am soo surprised and i want to give some pats to myself.

I am really grateful to your attention in this matter and for your responses on behalf of xisto.

I will be done with the coding in 5 days max. (if I m not swayed away by my interest in coding a WIKIPEDIA module which will enrich our content)

Seems like the toolbar caused some of javascripts to not function well. You can see that when the toolbar is disabled our pulldown menu is functioning again. And you can minimize each forum section and the right side bars (you can minimize or hide so that the forum sections can stretch out completely).

You will note that you might have huge boost for myCENT if you are part of this new calculation. I do not know how many of us are affected but at least my account is told affected.

HIDE and SPOILER codes are once again working.

And moderators who are logging in as hidden are advised to note OpaQue's setting change.

It is also expected that myCENT may not be on line for 4 or 5 days. I don't know the exact number and I will get back to you when I get to talk to OpaQue. This negates his original work--within 7 days.
