Some Questions About Domain Registration

Recommended Posts

hi, i have some questions about my domain registration.i hope you can help me.
first, today, i register a domain .com and . so i need to know when it will activated, i got these information

Registration Date: 2010/02/22Payment Method: MyCENT First Payment Amount: $9.99 USD Recurring Amount: $9.99 USD Next Due Date: 2010/02/22 Registration Period: 1 Year/s Status: Pending

ok, it seems clear for me for the first time. but i want to know what recurring amount means
also what they mean about next due date 2010/02/22. i think it should be 2011/02/22, isn't it??
because i register a domain for 1 year??

another thing, i read about add-on domain and parked domain. i have a free hosting here in Xisto and now i register a domain. as i understood, parked domain make my two domain (my hosting domain from trap which is subdomain and the new domain .com) point to the public html folder in cpanal and add -on domain will also point to public html folder but i should upload my website folder in it that means it will work separately from my old website.
so which is the best add my new domain as parked domain or as add-on domain at what are the advantages of each method.
i want you to point me to the best way i should add my domain so that i can make my site shown in search engine, because this is the main reason that is making me getting a domain .com.
thank you on advance.

recurring just means you will pay the same amount again a year from now. that's all that means. if it WASN'T recurring, then you wouldn't have to pay that same amount every year :angel:the next due date could be an error, or it could mean that your sale is pending and since your purchase hasn't been updated yet, then today would be your next payment date (or due date).right now you have a sub domain and you purchased a top level domain(tld). if you park your new domain, should automatically point to your subdomain that you are already using. if you plan to make it an addon domain, then it wont point anywhere. it will give you an opportunity to create a whole new website.so basically, if you bought the domain for your current website so people can type in your new domain rather than your sub domain, then just park it. if you bought it to create a new website, you will have to use it as an addon domain.as far as seo for parked domains is that it wont help and can only hurt because the whole domain is duplicate content from your main domain(in your case, your sub domain). also, i think instead of parking any domain(if you decide to do that), i think 301 redirect would be a better option.now i can't really answer your question more in depth in giving advice in how you should approach this until you can be clear in what you want your new domain to be used for.

I guess you spotted some error in calculation of 1 year. I suggest you to check with support staff of xisto. Create a ticket or if possible contact the support online. You can catch opaque online on messenger. You need to use add-on domain in order to use site with canonical URL's and begin using the site for that TLD. Also you'll be charged for TLD and not for the subdomain. subdomain with Xisto comes free and it is covered in hosting fees. So SEO wise , use add-on domain and start building site now. Just make sure you clear the error with that transaction.

There's no real difference between Parking and Add-on for SEO purpose. Some people prefer to have TLD (Top Level Domain) for brand name recognition. When you started your website with a sub-domain by Xisto, and later you purchased TLD for your own purpose you have the option of Parking or Add-on your domain name. But you also have the option of changing your hosting account to be tied with your domain name instead of sub-domain. Some people feel the sub-domain draws enough web traffic that if it were to be "lost" or "disconnected" it would be an inconvenience to visitors. Some people feel it's a necessary change. By using Parking or Add-on, you might say that you have two domain names--one sub-domain by Xisto and one TLD. Again, this is for your own reason and perhaps nothing to do with SEO.Parking a domain and Adding a domain behaves no differently when you keep your sub-domain. Your links will work the same, your database will work the same, etc. You just have to remember that all your database prefix will start with your sub-domain rather than TLD, i.e. someone.trap17.com would be someone_db name because your cPanel username is given with your sub-domain prefix. And even you drop your sub-domain it would still be the same prefix (because it's the same hosting plan). If you want to organize and start using your domain name, domain name as prefix and cPanel username etc, you could start a new hosting plan using your TLD. Discontinue your sub-domain hosting plan as soon as you are satisfied your TLD is ready to be launched. You can even keep your sub-domain long enough to alert your visitors of redirect/new site. All these are up to you.

thank you so much mahesh2k, you are a great help. i submit a ticket and i am now waiting for the response. about the domain i have one more question. if i add my domain as add-on domain then that is mean i will have 2 folders for my website one in hosting cpanal and the other in my domain. in this case,my old website hosting will be not use and every time i make updates to my website then i should add them twice (to my old web hosting which is trap sub domain and the other to my domain).
is it right or not?

Do you want to keep old installation on subdomain ? I'm asking this cause it is pain to update two websites. So if you want to remove subdomain site on Xisto, then transfer the wordpress data to new site and then remove the old installation. Once you remove old installation then you don't have to worry about the old subdomain and hosting. Your hosting will be used by new add-on domain. Adding updates to two different domains/websites with same content is pain. If you want to work on TLD that will be beneficial for you. I suggest you to concentrate on add-on domain site instead of maintaining multiple site with same content or alternate content. I hope this clears some things.

Not sure, but in my opinion only support staff or opaque can give you right answer about this. By the way do you've the email where your cash recorded for 11. $ or so with mycents? if so, then in that case that will help to calculate mycents again for sure. So from next time, have those emails in folder so you can recalculate it whenever needed. I'm doing that for my calculation maybe it will work for you as well.

thank you mahesh2k, i am so appreciate for your help. i checked my email that i received mycents update on it and submit a ticket again. i also added the details of mycents in the last message i received. i couldn't find a way to attache it. i hope it will do something. i am now getting more confused because i noticed that my account credit balance in xisto is 0.00$ usd. but i am sur that i have about $11 usd and a half when i registered the domain. the email that i received from mycent update also it shows n my cents in posts, or profile. it doesn't make sense that i have $11 usd in posts but i have $0.00 usd in xisto. what is going on now, really i don't know.
