Cron Job - How? to create sub-directorys backup..

Dear All..i need backup my subdir into tar.gz fileas we know we have cron job at our cpanel..is it possible to do this using that tool?lets say scheduling a job for creating tar.gz on certain sub-dir into a file.tar.gz at specific time. then we will download it (the result file.tar.gz) from web?usually i use tool: backup, but it use for all data in home dirthanx in adv..
