People Will Marry Robots In Future, Says Scientist!

Get ready to say 'I do' to R2-D2, because robots are going to be the perfect marriage material.
A British scientist claims humans and cyborgs will tie the knot in the not too distant future.

Artificial intelligence researcher David Levy was awarded a PhD today by a Dutch university for his thesis, Intimate Relationships With Artificial Partners.

He believes marriages to robots will become common.

The thesis examines changing attitudes towards the meaning of marriage and the development of robotics.

He says in the past that people only showed affection for other humans, but that this has now expanded to include pets and even robotic dogs.

This trend will eventually lead to humans loving sophisticated robots, Mr Levy argues.

He also claimed attitudes to different sexual practices had become more liberal. He was awarded his PhD at the University of Maastricht.

For me it is really stupid Who will marry robot who have no money and don't know nothing ? No one..Scientists are just stupid men who haven't what do do and they thinking about bullsh*ts .. Who will have sex with robot if he or she can have sex with normal people? If I just don't understand story then sorry.. But if this is only have robot like pet then it can be normal but marry robot is really stupid thing

Although I couldn't see myself in particular marrying a robot, I can understand that in thirty plus years people might. If robot's become as sophisticated as humans with developed personalities and characteristics, the differences between human and robots which would impeed such a thing from happening now, would become defunct. Sure, some people will object to others marrying a piece of metal, silicon and hydrolic fluids, but others will welcome it, fully embracing the hance to marry someone who knows exactly how to care for them, what to do when they get ill and will (probably) never cheat on them.

I think it's highly possible if not probable. In the 1990s there was a guy who wanted to marry his car, a vintage Mustang, and there was a debate about it. I doubt he suceeded since a car can't sign it's name, but AI definitely can. Think about it; if there are people willing to marry something artificial with no intelligence, than there are bound to be people who will want to marry Artificial Intelligence, in this case robots/androids.Note: I looked for the article about the guy and his car but couldn't find it. If someone does let me know or post it here.

Oh my damn. Robots? For wives? Now someone please tell me I am not seeing properly. You are damn right man. No one in his/her wildest dreams is gonna think of getting married with a robot. What are you gonna be doing with the damn thing? it cant console you? how the hell is the robot gonna figure out what to say and when to say it?It is all so stupud and silly at the same time. People should live the way they are meant to live and not with some artificial crap thing.

Believe it or not there are some people out there that would prefer marrying a robot. That way no feelings will get hurt and the robot will jump at every command. They wish the wife or husband would do that and they treat do treat their spouse like robots. The robot thing will be ideal for these people. They can get their piece of a-- anytime they want it then make them jump when they speak. Then they can go do a cheat without hurting the poor robot. LOL

blah blah blahmaybe next century. not this one. laws will need to changed. don't you need a birth certificate to get married anyway?also a marriage is a binding and legal agreement. i doubt ai would qualify to be capable in entering in any such agreement. robots with ai are owned property just like a car. you will never be able to marry something that can be owned or sold. anyone who believes this needs to get a life......the only reason why these scientists mentioned it is they have no lives and therefore are nerds and therefor will have a hard time meeting women and therefor love the idea of marrying something that they program in to it.that would be funny if it did happen next century though. i wonder how many robots will be programed to be gay....

Lol, marrying a robot, that is just sad. If you marry a robot, you've admitted you are unsuccesful in life. Would also mean a lower population if marry robots catches on.This is the distant future though, we are still in 2007 and I haven't seen any everyday walking robots yet.

Knowing the human race this is one thing that I know will happen for sure. Remember that we(humans) constantly need something/someone to make us feel good or to help us live our life happily.

At one point of my life I had the worst case of depression and the only reason I got out of it was because of my partner, my pets and my books. You have to understand that people run their lives using their ego( ego=> unnecessary emotions=> anger, hate, arrogance, over confidence, over-thinking and so on) . When people living on ego make a decision or LIVE in general, they do not understand that maybe their behavior is hurting some one. I know quite a few people who believe that only they are right and that every one else is stupid.

[This is one of the reasons why people wage wars and so on.. Insecurities drive them to their own and other's destruction. Now let us take Person A and Person B.. Person A is powered lives his life with his ego and Person B wants nothing but love and understanding ( not being pampered just peace of the mind)

Person A might feel happy degrading everyone and unknowingly or knowingly makes life hell for Person B then obviously B will find something that will make him happy.. Right???? So he might want to find solace in something like a pet, loved one or even a robot..... Unhappy people would want something that might give them some happiness..

I was in that phase once upon a time so I can understand but now that I am working and have gotten over my depression I am more at peace

Seeing the way female infanticide is increasing in many places, by the end of 2 or 3 decades there might be hardly any women left for people to have sex with. I had once heard that in a Country a woman was being married of to 5 or 6 men because there were less girls... They might start creating robots to satisfy one's lust..

Isn't a cyborg a mix between a human and a robot, like a person with robot parts? If I'm right, then saying you wouldn't marry a cyborg because they're a cyborg would be like saying, "I will never marry a cripple." That's just wrong.

I stumbleUpon'd a video about something kind of like that once. There were a bunch of people that had these dolls that looked almost like real people, and they used them for just that. They had a whole documentary on the lives of those people that had those dolls. They weren't just like regular sex dolls either. The people that owned them actually got emotionally attached to them, and they would dress them up and talk to them, all day long.

I don't think that's very likely. I thought there were more women than men in the world, right now, anyway. And there was something on the discovery channel about how women could live without men, anyway. They could take the genes from one person's egg and inject them into someone else's, and have a new person. They haven't really tried it yet, I don't think, and one of the reasons they're not killing all the guys off is because there wouldn't be enough diversity in people's genes and everyone would start to die off.

And with marrying robots, I don't think anyone's going to start doing that until they've gotten AI, and they can somehow prove that it really has it's own personality, and it's not just a randomized program or something. It has to be able to learn, and they have to have some way to give it feelings. They're starting to get some stuff like that, but nowhere near good enough for someone to want to marry it (unless they're mentally unstable or something).

I think that if this were ever to get legalized in the first place, which I highly doubt will occur, the level of this incidence occuring will be on such a miniscule isolated scale that we should have nothing to worry about. But, hypothetically speaking, if this were ever to become widely-accepted by society, it would be the end of the human race as we know it. There would be no human interaction, no innovation, and no reproduction. I honestly think that despite the many mistakes that humans made, make, and will make, we are not that stupid to become reliant on something that we will know will destroy our species.

I actually think that there people out there who would do this. And by the time this is able to happen, i think its possible to develope a relationship with a robot. There are already robots out there that are able to learn. If they become advanced enough, a relationship is possible. As well as full access to do whatever the person likes, certain people would be attracted to that. But in theory you should be in love to get married, and i dont think too many would fall in love with it. Maybe they could be just tools. Although, think of all the things people have already tried to marry.....

Although it sounds crazy as any scientific prediction sounds..
But ,Do not think that scientists are some crazy animals..they are obviously not saying ppl ll marry to iron-made toys..Perhaps after 100 yrs from now,it ll be not that easy to distinguish a robot from a human being..They may be some kind of replacement of clone..Imagine you can program a robot to behave like JLopez and its making it look like her won't be that difficult..And then imagine everything you can... I ll go for a marriage with that Jlo robot...

I don't see myself ever marrying a robot. Although, I can see someone who is very desperate doing it.The thing is, marriage is supposed to bring safety and security. You will most likely have to pay for it, then pay for the upkeep.The robot will not be able to make money and you'll end up bankrupt.

When you think about it, a lot of people will be willing to marry robots in the future. That's because in a few years it will become more and more difficult to distinguish between humans and robots. Already, people are having artificial limbs attached that mimic the movements of real limbs. There are sex machines that mimic human sexuality. And, of course, people are always adding some false new feature to their bodies. Add this together and you can see where we're headed. Humans mating with robots, and perhaps more dangerously, robots mating with robots. It's the new world order.

I can see it now. War, famine, pestilence, and ice (from global warming) wipes out the human population. Only the richest amongst us will survive, because they can buy protection from each of these conditions. Once the few rich people with enough foresight to plan effectively are left to this barren planet, they will begin manufacturing robots en masse. Robots will be needed because they will be capable of surviving the harsh conditions the earth will present to future generations, yet they will not require organic feedstock, nor contribute to the daily wastes generated by humans. Robots will ease the human drain on the earth's resources, and men will "employ" them to help rebuild the atmosphere, and restore the planet to rejuvenated habitability.

As a side, robots will be empowered with the ability to procreate. Sex for pleasure and reproduction will become important tasks for robots, who will be replacements for humans in more ways than we can imagine. In the future, there will be no gender. People will become artificially-intelligent, self-replicating, omni-sexual, bio-electronic, semi-digital, being units, capable of having emotional relationships of a personal and sexual nature. Love, reduced to buying presents and jewelery, will be expressed more fully and rewardingly than ever before. The human race will cease to exist, and the semi-digital being units that replace us will live longer, more eco-friendly lives. They will all be willing slaves to the insanely rich people who will derive from us. And they will love the life they live.

i dont think this will happen because its not the same. they may be smart enough to be human like, but i dont actually think a human could truely love a robot, knowing it was a robot. because after all, it is just artificial intelligence. i know i personally would never do it, but im sure other might, ending in a divorce, like most marriages. thats my opinion, but i definately could see it happen, just only to the stupid and desperate.
